Wykorzystanie Granulometrii Obrazowej W Klasyfikacji Treści Zdjęć Satelitarnych, Przemysław Kupidura Jan 2015

Wykorzystanie Granulometrii Obrazowej W Klasyfikacji Treści Zdjęć Satelitarnych, Przemysław Kupidura

Przemysław Kupidura

This book presents a new method of classifi cation of satellite images, based on utilisation of granulometric analysis of image texture. The theoretical background of the method and its accuracy, depending on different parameters of granulometric processing and input images, is presented. It is compared to other approaches of satellite image classification. The essence of the method relies on the use of granulometric maps, i.e. images containing information about a local texture in every pixel, additionally to spectral data contained in original multispectral images. One of the main advantages of the proposed method is its multiscality, i.e. a possibility to …

Distinction Of Lakes And Rivers On Satellite Images Using Mathematical Morphology, Przemysław Kupidura Jan 2013

Distinction Of Lakes And Rivers On Satellite Images Using Mathematical Morphology, Przemysław Kupidura

Przemysław Kupidura

This paper concerns the application of mathematical morphology for object-oriented classification of satellite images. The example of distinguishing different bodies of water using the author-made algorithm will be presented. Different types of water bodies like lakes and rivers are easy to differentiate when visually interpreted. However, it is much more difficult to differentiate using a traditional, pixel-based classification process. Mathematical morphology operations, which take into account such important features of objects like shape and size, allow these two types of water bodies to be distinguished in object classification. The proposed algorithm allows one practically error-free classification. The results show, that …

Comparison Of Different Aproaches To Extract Heterogeneous Objects From An Image Using An Orchards Example, Przemysław Kupidura, Gwadera Łukasz Jan 2010

Comparison Of Different Aproaches To Extract Heterogeneous Objects From An Image Using An Orchards Example, Przemysław Kupidura, Gwadera Łukasz

Przemysław Kupidura

Traditional, pixel-based classification is very often an useless tool for an automatic extraction of heterogeneous types of land cover. This paper presents the application of mathematical morphology for a semi-automatic extraction of heterogenous objects using an example of orchards. Thanks to this algorithm it is possible to obtain orchards pixels of unique set of digital numbers, allowing succesful application of a traditional pixel-based classification for extraction of this class. The algorithm concerning a sequence of morphological operations of multispectral satellite images of very high resolution (VHR) is then veryfied on test images. The paper concerns also a comparison of an efficiency …

Semi-Automatic Method For A Built-Up Area Intensity Survey Using Morphological Granulometry, Przemysław Kupidura Jan 2010

Semi-Automatic Method For A Built-Up Area Intensity Survey Using Morphological Granulometry, Przemysław Kupidura

Przemysław Kupidura

Built-up areas as a land-use type are easy to extract in a visual photo-interpretation process, however their heterogeneous character makes theirs automatic or semi-automatic extraction very complicated, even impossible using non-contextual, pixel-based methods of image classification. This paper concerns the application of the semi-automatic method of the extraction of built-up areas in satellite images. Granulometric maps, a mathematical morphology operator is used as a main tool for surveying a heterogeneity of particular parts of an aerial or satellite image. This function measures amount and size of objects in the determined neighborhood of each pixel of an image. Pixels representing built-up …

The Concept Of The Islands Extraction In Satellite Images Using Mathematical Morphology, Przemysław Kupidura Jan 2009

The Concept Of The Islands Extraction In Satellite Images Using Mathematical Morphology, Przemysław Kupidura

Przemysław Kupidura

The neighborhood is one of the indirect features of the object which may be used in the interpretation of the image. Sometimes, this feature may be essential, what can be shown using an example of islands. According to Oxford Dictionary (Internet edition) island is "a piece of land surrounded by water" so, as we can see, this element of landscape is defined by its neighborhood. The traditional, pixel-based classification is useless in such a case, taking into account only digital numbers of individual pixels. It is impossible to classify islands properly, using this kind of non-contextual algorithms. This paper presents …

The Morphological Filtering Of The Remote Sensing Images For The Noise Reduction Comparing To Traditional Filters, Przemysław Kupidura, Magdalena Jakubiak Jan 2009

The Morphological Filtering Of The Remote Sensing Images For The Noise Reduction Comparing To Traditional Filters, Przemysław Kupidura, Magdalena Jakubiak

Przemysław Kupidura

The advantages and disadvantages of the traditional (non-morphological) filters are commonly known. Focusing only on disadvantages, it is necessary to mention that most of these filters mainly blur noise over the image, making it less visible. That operation causes depreciation of the amount of information on the image rather than increasing its quality. In recent years there has been a trend to develop more efficient procedures for improving image quality. Theoretically, morphological filters have potential in such usage without possessing the drawbacks of traditional filters. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of an evaluation of the …

Radar Imagery Filtering With Use Of The Mathematical Morphology Operations, Przemysław Kupidura, Piotr Koza Jan 2008

Radar Imagery Filtering With Use Of The Mathematical Morphology Operations, Przemysław Kupidura, Piotr Koza

Przemysław Kupidura

This paper concerns the application of mathematical morphology operations for suppression of speckle from radar satellite images. Different traditional widely-used filters are compared with the morphological alternate filters, especially with the filter with multiple structuring function. The comprehensive comparison of the traditional filters is presented, as well as the background on mathematical morphology and morphological filters. Then the evaluation of compared filters applied on TerraSAR-X images is presented.

Wybrane Przykłady Wykorzystania Morfologii Matematycznej W Przetwarzaniu Obrazów W Teledetekcji, Przemysław Kupidura, Jacek Marciniak, Piotr Koza

Przemysław Kupidura

The paper presents the results of the scientific project concerning the application of mathematical morphology in remote sensing. Mathematical morphology has been created in the sixties of the last century by two french scientists: Jean Serra and George Matheron. Since then, the great progress of this discipline leaded to creation of many different operators. Their most important advantage is taking into account such important features of objects in the image as size, shape, texture or neighbourhood. Thanks to that, selected morphological operators are used in digital image processing in many fields, also in remote sensing. However, the analyse shows even …
