A New Way To Detect The Higgs, S. Reucroft, Y. Srivastava, J. Swain, A. Widom

John Swain

We describe a new technique to look for evidence of the Higgs mechanism. The usual method involves seeking evidence for the Higgs boson either directly or via the indirect effect that a virtual Higgs boson would have on a variety of Standard Model parameters. The new technique looks for Higgs field effects that are predicted to reduce the masses of heavy particles when they are in the presence of other heavy particles.

A Method To Determine The Tau Neutrino Helicity Using Polarized Taus, M.-T. Dova, L. N. Epele, H. Fanchiotti, C.A. García Canal, P. E. Lacentre, J. D. Swain

John Swain

A method is presented to extract the tau neutrino helicity, or equivalently, the chirality parameter γVA, independent of any tau polarization which may be present. The method is thus well-suited to measurements using taus produced from the Z⁰ and is complementary to analyses using tau correlations since it provides the sign of the chirality parameter which is otherwise unavailable without recourse to lower energy experiments where taus are unpolarized. Results of Monte Carlo studies and comments regarding the use of technique in experiments are also included.

An Improved Analysis Of B→Sγ In Supersymmetry, Mario E. Gómez, Tarek Ibrahim, Pran Nath, Solveig Skadhauge Jan 2011

An Improved Analysis Of B→Sγ In Supersymmetry, Mario E. Gómez, Tarek Ibrahim, Pran Nath, Solveig Skadhauge

Pran Nath

An improved analysis of the b → s + γ decay in the minimal flavor violating case is given taking into account additional contributions in the supersymmetric sector which enter in the next-to-leading-order (NLO) and are enhanced by tan β factors. Specifically, we compute a set of twenty one-loop diagrams to give the most complete analysis to date of the NLO supersymmetric corrections. These modifications are computed from the effective charged Higgs and neutral Higgs couplings involving twelve loop diagrams for the charged Higgs sector and eight loop diagrams for the neutral Higgs sector. While the computations of these corrections …

A Supersymmetric Stueckelberg U(1) Extension Of The Mssm, Boris Körs, Pran Nath Jan 2011

A Supersymmetric Stueckelberg U(1) Extension Of The Mssm, Boris Körs, Pran Nath

Pran Nath

A Stueckelberg extension of the MSSM with only one abelian vector and one chiral superfield as an alternative to an abelian extension with Higgs scalars is presented. The bosonic sector contains a new gauge boson Z′ which is a sharp resonance, and a new CP-even scalar, which combines with the MSSM Higgs bosons to produce three neutral CP-even massive states. The neutral fermionic sector has two additional fermions which mix with the four MSSM neutralinos to produce an extended 6×6 neutralino mass matrix. For the case when the LSP is composed mostly of the Stueckelberg fermions, the LSP of the …

A Stueckelberg Extension Of The Standard Model, Boris Körs, Pran Nath Jan 2011

A Stueckelberg Extension Of The Standard Model, Boris Körs, Pran Nath

Pran Nath

An extension of the standard model of electro-weak interactions by an extra abelian gauge boson is given, in which the extra gauge boson and the hypercharge gauge boson both couple to an axionic scalar in a form that leads to a Stueckelberg mass term. The theory leads to a massive Z′ whose couplings to fermions are uniquely determined and suppressed by small mixing angles. Such a Z′ could have a low mass and appear in e+e− collisions as a sharp resonance. The branching ratios into f ¯ f species, and the forward-backward asymmetry are found to have distinctive features. The …

Accurate Cosmological Parameters And Supersymmetric Particle Properties, Pran Nath, R. Arnowitt Jan 2011

Accurate Cosmological Parameters And Supersymmetric Particle Properties, Pran Nath, R. Arnowitt

Pran Nath

Future satellite, balloon and ground based experiments will give precision determinations of the basic cosmological parameters and hence determine the amount of cold dark matter in the universe accurately. We consider here two cosmological models, the CDM model and the CDM model, and examine within the framework of supergravity grand unification the effect this will have for these models on supersymmetry searches at accelerators. In the former example the gluino (neutralino) mass has an upper bound of about 720(100) GeV and gaps (forbidden regions) may develop at lower energies. In the latter case the upper bound occurs at gluino (neutralino) …
