Qos Provisioning For Multi-Class Traffic In Wireless Networks, Mona El-Kadi Rizvi Jul 2004

Qos Provisioning For Multi-Class Traffic In Wireless Networks, Mona El-Kadi Rizvi

Computer Science Theses & Dissertations

Physical constraints, bandwidth constraints and host mobility all contribute to the difficulty of providing Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees in wireless networks. There is a growing demand for wireless networks to support all the services that are available on wired networks. These diverse services, such as email, instant messaging, web browsing, video conferencing, telephony and paging all place different demands on the network, making QoS provisioning for wireless networks that carry multiple classes of traffic a complex problem. We have developed a set of admission control and resource reservation schemes for QoS provisioning in multi-class wireless networks.

We present three …

A Framework For Controlling Quality Of Sessions In Multimedia Systems, Alaa S. Youssef Jan 1998

A Framework For Controlling Quality Of Sessions In Multimedia Systems, Alaa S. Youssef

Computer Science Theses & Dissertations

Collaborative multimedia systems demand overall session quality control beyond the level of quality of service (QoS) pertaining to individual connections in isolation of others. At every instant in time, the quality of the session depends on the actual QoS offered by the system to each of the application streams, as well as on the relative priorities of these streams according to the application semantics. We introduce a framework for achieving QoSess control and address the architectural issues involved in designing a QoSess control laver that realizes the proposed framework. In addition, we detail our contributions for two main components of …

Designing A High-Quality Network: An Application-Oriented Approach, Sudheer Dharanikota Apr 1997

Designing A High-Quality Network: An Application-Oriented Approach, Sudheer Dharanikota

Computer Science Theses & Dissertations

As new computer network technologies emerge, the application designers and the application users expect an increasing level of quality of service from them. Hence, it is a common practice in the newer technologies to provide more Quality of Service (QoS) components. Until now, these QoS solutions have been both network-technology specific and network-oriented solutions. In this thesis, we present an application-oriented approach to design a high quality network which is independent of the underlying communication technology. In this thesis, we propose a QoS architecture to "provide predictable performance to the end-to-end application users in a high quality networking environment." In …
