Compositional And Taphonomic Variations In Modern Crinoid-Rich Sediments From The Deep-Water Margin Of A Carbonate Bank, Ghislaine Llewellyn, Charles G. Messing
Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles
Multivariate analyses of the coarse-grained fraction (>2 mm) of sediments accumulating in deep water (419-434 m) along the western margin of the Little Bahama Bank reveal identifiable, small-scale compositional and taphonomic variations among local subhabitats (ridge crest, slope, foreslope, base of slope, pavements and scour pit) separated by meters to tens of meters. Bulk composition varies between planktic-(crest and slope) and lithic-dominated (pavements, scour pit) sediments. Local macrobenthic skeletal components also vary significantly among subhabitats, but are commonly dominated by echinoid and crinoid material; crinoid columnals contribute 9-52% of the coarse skeletal component of 17 sediment samples considered. Distributional …

Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Reports
In 1990. Nova University (Contractor) with Coral Reef Associates and ERM South (Subcontractors) was awarded a contract to provide biological monitoring services for the Hollywood Hallandale Beach Renourishment Project. A notice to proceed for the initial biological monitoring (Pre-construction) was issued in September. 1990. Pre-construction field monitoring took place in October. 1990. Renourishment dredging began in April and ended August, 1991. Approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of sediment were removed and subsequently emplaced on 5 miles of shoreline. The first post-construction monitoring took place in October. 1991. On August 24.1992 the eye of Hurricane Andrew passed some 30 miles to …

Skeletal Structural Basis Of Density Banding In The Reef Coral Montastrea Annularis, Richard E. Dodge, Alina Szmant-Froelich, R. Garcia, Peter K. Swart, A. Forester, J. J. Leder
Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Proceedings, Presentations, Speeches, Lectures
Density banding in coral skeletons can provide for reconstruction of the coral's growth en- vironment over long periods. The physical differ- ences between low and high density portions of a skeletal band are not well understood. The skeletal architecture of M. annularis from Southeast Flor- ida, the Florida Keys, St. Croix, the Bahamas, and Mexico was compared in X-ray revealed high den- sity (HD), low density (LD), and stress HD bands. Density changes arose from differences in the size, but not spacing, of exothecal structural elements (horizontal dissepiments and vertical costae). En- dothecal architecture size (e.g., columella, dissepi- ments, septa) …

Mass And Mixing-Angle Patterns In The Standard Model And Its Minimal Supersymmetric Extension, H. Arason, Diego Castano, E. J. Piard, P. Ramond
Mass And Mixing-Angle Patterns In The Standard Model And Its Minimal Supersymmetric Extension, H. Arason, Diego Castano, E. J. Piard, P. Ramond
Chemistry and Physics Faculty Articles
Using renormalization group techniques, we examine several interesting relations among masses and mixing angles of quarks and leptons in the standard model. We extend the analysis to the minimal supersymmetric extension to determine its effect on these mass relations. Remarkably supersymmetry allows for these relations to be satisfied at a single grand unified scale.
A Survey Of The Stony Coral Community Composition Of Pompano Ledge, Broward County, Florida, With A Preliminary Evaluation Of The Effectiveness Of Mooring Buoys In Reducing Coral Damage, John D. Hocevar
HCNSO Student Theses and Dissertations
Stony corals of Pompano Ledge, First Reef, Broward County, Florida were sampled in situ using a new reef assessment method. The circular-radial method was used to assess the effectiveness of mooring buoys in reducing damage to reefs. Data will be part of a long-term monitoring study of·buoy impacts. The parameter of recent injury was used to provide preliminary information on buoy effectiveness.
Results were as follows: approximately 6% of the study area was covered by stony corals, with an average of 3 colonies per square meter. Diversity based on abundance (H'n) was 1 .7, and diversity based on relative coverage …
Microzooplankton Distributions In The Irish Sea, Carol A. Burkart
Microzooplankton Distributions In The Irish Sea, Carol A. Burkart
HCNSO Student Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the distributions and abundances of microzooplankton across a front in the Irish Sea, and to test the hypothesis that the structure which develops within the microzooplankton community is the result of the interactions within the communities.
Eight sites were sampled on May 1-2, 1989 along a transect from Liverpool Bay, England to Dundalk Bay, Ireland. The transect crossed both the Liverpool Bay and western Irish Sea fronts; sites were positioned with respect to water type (e.g., coastal, thermally mixed, thermally stratified) . Five sites were sampled by double Longhurst-Hardy Plankton Recorder (LHPR) …

The Introduction Of A Catalog Automation And Manufacturing Costing System For Use In A Jewelry Manufacturing Company, Moshe S. Raab
The Introduction Of A Catalog Automation And Manufacturing Costing System For Use In A Jewelry Manufacturing Company, Moshe S. Raab
CCE Theses and Dissertations
The jewelry manufacturing industry is an example of an industry that is slow to accept and incorporate new technology. There are, however, some large companies that have automated the accounting and inventory functions. Some of these companies have even invested in systems that can do image storage and retrieval. Until recently, these computer systems have been very expensive to purchase.
Prestige Marketing, Ltd. is a small jewelry manufacturing company. The owner of Prestige recognized the advantage of utilizing inexpensive personal computers to develop a software system that would calculate the cost of manufacturing and determine the recommended selling price of …
