Entangled photon pairs—discrete light quanta that exhibit non-classical correlations—play a crucial role in quantum information science (for example, in demonstrations of quantum non-locality1,2,3,4,5,6,7, quantum teleportation8,9 and quantum cryptography10,11,12,31). At the macroscopic optical-field level non-classical correlations can also be important, as in the case of squeezed light13, entangled light beams14,15 and teleportation of continuous quantum variables16. Here we use stimulated parametric down-conversion to study entangled states of light that bridge the gap between discrete and macroscopic optical quantum correlations. We demonstrate experimentally the onset of laser-like action for entangled photons, through …
Strictly Positive Definite Functions On A Compact Group, Mohamed Allali, Tomasz Przebinda
Strictly Positive Definite Functions On A Compact Group, Mohamed Allali, Tomasz Przebinda
Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research
We recognize a result of Schreiner, concerning strictly positive definite functions on a sphere in an Euclidean space, as a generalization of Bochner's theorem for compact groups.
La Révolution Scientifique, Les Révolutions, Et L'Histoire Des Sciences. Comment Ernest Coumet Nous A Libérés De L'Héritage D'Alexandre Koyré, Marco Panza
MPP Published Research
Comparison Of The Monthly Precipitation Derived From The Trmm Satellite, D. Shin, L. Chiu, Menas Kafatos
Comparison Of The Monthly Precipitation Derived From The Trmm Satellite, D. Shin, L. Chiu, Menas Kafatos
Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research
A comparison of monthly rainfall derived from the version 5 of TRMM Microwave Imager( TMI), Precipitation Radar (PR), TRMM Combined algorithm (TCA) and TMI-emission algorithm (TMIE) using two years (1998 to 1999) of TRMM data. was made. The global (TRMM domain, 40øN~ 40øS) average rain rates are 3.29, 2.62 and 2.93 mm/day over land and 3.02, 2.47 and 2.54 mm/day over oceans for TMI, PR, and TCA respectively. The TMIE oceanic average is 2.90 mm/day. For both the global and zonal means, the TMI rain rates are the largest and the PR estimates lowest. Regression analyses show the offsets of …
Modal Rules Are Co-Implications, Alexander Kurz
Modal Rules Are Co-Implications, Alexander Kurz
Engineering Faculty Articles and Research
In [13], it was shown that modal logic for coalgebras dualises—concerning definability— equational logic for algebras. This paper establishes that, similarly, modal rules dualise implications:It is shown that a class of coalgebras is definable by modal rules iff it is closed under H (images) and Σ (disjoint unions). As a corollary the expressive power of rules of infinitary modal logic on Kripke frames is characterised.
