Robust Underwater State Estimation And Mapping, Bharat Joshi Oct 2023

Robust Underwater State Estimation And Mapping, Bharat Joshi

Theses and Dissertations

The ocean covers two-thirds of Earth, which is relatively unexplored compared to the landmass. Mapping underwater structures is essential for both archaeological and conservation purposes. This dissertation focuses on employing a robot team to map underwater structures using vision-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). The overarching goal of this research is to create a team of autonomous robots to map large underwater structures in a coordinated fashion. This requires maintaining an accurate robust pose estimate of oneself and knowing the relative pose of the other robots in the team. However, the GPS-denied and communication-constrained underwater environment, along with low visibility, …

An Instructional Designer Competency Framework For Complex Learning Designs, David Alan Schubert Jan 2019

An Instructional Designer Competency Framework For Complex Learning Designs, David Alan Schubert

CCE Theses and Dissertations

Learning design competency frameworks published by professional organizations, exist for typical instructional design efforts. However, a review of literature revealed a lack of frameworks available for the creation of complex learning designs (CLDs). The goal of this research was to develop a competency framework for the creation of CLDs. Quantitative and qualitative methods were employed in the four phases of the design and development research approach In phase one, a survey based on the Educational Technology Multimedia Competency Survey (ETMCS) was sent to instructional designers who self-reported as having experience creating CLDs. The purpose of phase one was to identify …

Transgenerational Effects Of Thermal Stress: Impacts On And Beyond Coral Reproduction, Alyson Kuba Jul 2016

Transgenerational Effects Of Thermal Stress: Impacts On And Beyond Coral Reproduction, Alyson Kuba

HCNSO Student Theses and Dissertations

Ocean warming causes stress to corals and records reveal that periods of thermal stress are increasing in frequency and severity. Previous studies show that thermal stress negatively impacts the reproductive output of corals. However, the transgenerational impacts of coral bleaching have never been quantified. As a consequence, it is unclear how ocean warming may alter population dynamics due to effects on reproduction and recruitment. This study quantified the transgenerational impacts of thermal stress in Montastraea cavernosa. To assess transgenerational effects of temperature stress during gametogenesis, colonies were exposed to elevated temperature for two weeks four months prior to spawning, …

Targeted Blended Learning Through Competency Assessment In An Undergraduate Information Systems Program, Joelle Elmaleh, Shankararaman, Venky Oct 2015

Targeted Blended Learning Through Competency Assessment In An Undergraduate Information Systems Program, Joelle Elmaleh, Shankararaman, Venky

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In this paper we report our study on the problem of competency acquisition when students progress from one course to another and more generally, from one term to the next. We observed that some students moved on to a second programming course without acquiring some of the competencies in the first programming course. This leads to problem in the second course, especially when these competencies are pre-requisites for this course. We applied blended learning, which allows a student to learn at least in part through delivery of content and instruction via online media, to overcome this problem. Our approach is …

A Quantitative Framework Of Skill Evaluation Of It Workforce, O Hyun Hwang Jul 2014

A Quantitative Framework Of Skill Evaluation Of It Workforce, O Hyun Hwang

Open Access Theses

Every employee has different abilities as well as experience, leading to different results in terms of skills and job performance. In order to improve employee IT skills, organizations should evaluate their employees' skills to understand the current levels of skills and knowledge and to figure out areas where skills are currently lacking.

This study used a different approach than other existing methods to evaluate the IT skills of employees. The research used quantitative empirical data that represents the work experience of employees based on their task history and job positions. The suggested method defines the relationship between IT skills and …

Competencies Of Expert Web-Based Instruction Designers, Yonghui Chen Jan 2012

Competencies Of Expert Web-Based Instruction Designers, Yonghui Chen

Wayne State University Dissertations

Web-based instruction has been increasingly accepted in education, business and industry, military and government, healthcare and other sectors as a dominant means to deliver instruction beyond time and geographical constraints. However, the overall quality of WBI courses or programs remains a concern. The reasons for the ineffectiveness can be many, of which is the lack of sufficient competencies and skills in existing professionals. This study attempts to identify the domains, competencies, performance statement for instructional designers in WBI at the expert level. IBSTPI competency model has been used as the conceptual framework, utilizing mixed methods.

As a result, 91 performance …

Establishing A Vendor Neutral Skills Based Framework For Digital Forensics Curriculum Development And Competence Assessment, Craig Valli Jan 2006

Establishing A Vendor Neutral Skills Based Framework For Digital Forensics Curriculum Development And Competence Assessment, Craig Valli

Research outputs pre 2011

This paper outlines an approach being undertaken between ECU and the Australian Electronic Evidence Special Advisory Group (EESAG) in the production of vendor neutral skills matrix for developing curriculum and evaluating competence. The framework is constructed using Blooms Taxonomy of Learning. This is a work in progress paper and covers the inital stages of the development
