Reflection On Use Of The "Reacting To The Past" Pedagogy In A History Of Mathematics Course, Davida Fischman
Q2S Enhancing Pedagogy
This brief report provides a reflection on the use of the "Reacting to the Past" (RTTP) pedagogy in a History of Mathematics classroom. The conclusion is drawn that the RTTP pedagogy is very successful in engaging students in active learning, and appropriate games may be utilized to help students learn about the role of mathematics in historical developments as well as in society today.

Implementing Mth 155: Statistical Reasoning Co-Requisite, Pansy Waycaster
Inquiry: The Journal of the Virginia Community Colleges
Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) implemented MTH 155 — Statistical Reasoning Co-Requisite — in the spring semester of 2018. MTH 155 replaced MTH 146 on VHCC’s campus. Prerequisites for this course are the first five developmental MTE modules. The intended co-requisite audience for this new course consists of students having successfully completed at least three of the five MTE modules. These students co-enrolled in MCR 5 and received targeted assistance for the MTH 155 course. Successful completion of MTH 155 resulted in the prerequisite MTE modules 1-5 being satisfied. Mathematics is a discipline of academia that can be found everywhere in the world around us. Mathematicians and scientists are not the only people who need to be proficient in numbers. Those involved in social sciences and even the arts can benefit from a background in math. In fact, connections between mathematics and various forms of art have been discovered since as early as the fourth century BC. In this thesis we will study such connections and related concepts in mathematics, dances, and music.

The purpose of this project is to research the relationship between duck migration and weather patterns, more specifically trying to determine if the rainfall and temperature in a given year affects the migration patterns of ducks. Duck hunters and conservation- ists alike have observed an overall decrease in the duck population in Louisiana over the past 70 years. Though some years have seen an increase, the population has not recovered to the level from the 1950s. In 2016 Donald Trump stunned the nation and not a single pollster predicted the outcome. For the last few decades, pollsters have relied on phone banking as their main source of information. There is reason to believe that this method does not present the complete picture it once did due to several factors--less landline usage, a younger and more active electorate, and the rise of social media. Social media specifically has grown in prominence and become a forum for political debate. This project quantitatively analyzes political twitter data and leverages machine learning techniques such as Naive-Bayes to model election results. …

An Overview Of Computational Mathematical Physics: A Deep Dive On Gauge Theories, Andre Simoneau

Over the course of a college mathematics degree, students are inevitably exposed to elementary physics. The derivation of the equations of motion are the classic examples of applications of derivatives and integrals. These equations of motion are easy to understand, however they can be expressed in other ways that students aren't often exposed to. Using the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian, we can capture the same governing dynamics of Newtonian mechanics with equations that emphasize physical quantities other than position, velocity, and acceleration like Newton's equations do.
