Direct Sums Decompositions: Applications, Wahdan Mohammad Yousef Abuziadeh

Theses

In this thesis we study the behavior of direct sum decomposition's in the category of modules. We present some of the most important "classical" results involving direct sum decomposition's for modules (e.g. Krull-Schmidt theorem, decomposition theorems for finitely generated modules over PID etc.). In the last part of the thesis we obtain new results, namely isomorphic refinement theorems for direct sum decomposition's of regular modules. We also obtain a link between regular modules and the exchange property.

Series Solutions Of Multi-Term Fractional Differential Equations, Yousef Ibrahim Al-Srihin Oct 2015

Series Solutions Of Multi-Term Fractional Differential Equations, Yousef Ibrahim Al-Srihin

Theses

In this thesis, we introduce a new series solutions for multi-term fractional differential equations of Caputo’s type. The idea is similar to the well-known Taylor Series method, but we overcome the difficulty of computing iterated fractional derivatives, which do not commuted in general. To illustrate the efficiency of the new algorithm, we apply it for several types of multi-term fractional differential equations and compare the results with the ones obtained by the well-known Adomian decomposition method (ADM).

Geometric Integrators With Application To Hamiltonian Systems, Hebatallah Jamil Al Sakaji Sep 2015

Geometric Integrators With Application To Hamiltonian Systems, Hebatallah Jamil Al Sakaji

Theses

Geometric numerical integration is a relatively new area of numerical analysis. The aim is to preserve the geometric properties of the flow of a differential equation such as symplecticity or reversibility. A conventional numerical integrator approximates the flow of the continuous-time equations using only the information about the vector field, ignoring the physical laws and the properties of the original trajectory. In this way, small inaccuracies accumulated over long periods of time will significantly diminish the operational lifespan of such discrete solutions. Geometric integrators, on the other hand, are built in a way that preserve the structure of continuous dynamics, …

Factors Affecting Terrigenous Sedimentation In Coastal Bays With Coral Reefs: Implications For Monitoring The Effectiveness Of Watershed Restoration, Whitney Sears Aug 2015

Factors Affecting Terrigenous Sedimentation In Coastal Bays With Coral Reefs: Implications For Monitoring The Effectiveness Of Watershed Restoration, Whitney Sears

Theses

In the Caribbean, sedimentation has been identified as a serious threat to coral reef communities. Although land-based sediment delivery to coastal waters harboring coral reefs occurs under natural conditions, human activities in the watersheds above reefs increases the erosion and delivery of terrigenous sediment to the reefs. Delivery of terrigenous sediment into marine areas below developed watersheds affects sedimentation rates, alters the composition and texture of sediments that are suspended in the water column, and/or sediments that are deposited on the sea floor and on corals.

St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands is an ideal location to study the effects of …

Studies Of The Preparation Of Pi-Extended Anthracenes And Their Reactivity With An Emphasis On Their Photoreactivity, Hasnaa Abdelkareem Sadeq

Theses

Both 9,10-diaryl and 9,10-diarylethenyl substituted Anthracenes have recently been forwarded as light-regulated semiconducting materials, as well as potential constituent molecules in light-harvesting devices for the organic solar cell applications. So, it is of importance to understand whether such 9,10-substituted Anthracenes are stable under photo-irradiation for a long time, and what type of reactions they could undergo. In the present thesis, photochemistry of 9-anthranylacrylates and 9-aroylethenylanthracenes has been investigated. Anthranylacrylates and 9-aroylethenylanthracenes have been prepared by Wittig-olefination reaction from 9-anthranylcarbaldehyde. Bromination of these molecules was found to give an access to 10-aryl-9-aroylethenylanthracenes after Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions. While 9-ethenyl-substituted Anthracenes in principle …

Pricing European Option Under A Modified Cev Model, Wafaa Ibrahim Abuzarqa May 2015

Pricing European Option Under A Modified Cev Model, Wafaa Ibrahim Abuzarqa

Theses

A financial derivative is an instrument whose payoff is derived from the behavior of another underlying asset. One of the most commonly used derivatives is the option which gives the right to buy or to sell an underlying asset at a pre-specified price at (European) or at and before (American) an expiration date. Finding a fair price of the option is called the option pricing problem and it depends on the underlying asset prices during the period from the initial time to expiration date. Thus, a “good” model for the underlying asset price trajectory is needed. In this work, we …

Rice And Mouse Quantitative Phenotype Prediction In Genome-Wide Association Studies With Support Vector Regression, Abdulrhman Fahad M. Aljouie

Theses

Quantitative phenotypes prediction from genotype data is significant for pathogenesis, crop yields, and immunity tests. The scientific community conducted many studies to find unobserved quantitative phenotype high predictive ability models. Early genome-wide association studies (GWAS) focused on genetic variants that are associated with disease or phenotype, however, these variants manly covers small portion of the whole genetic variance, and therefore, the effectiveness of predictions obtained using this information may possibly be circumscribed [ 1 ].

Instead, this study shows prediction ability from whole genome single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) data of 1940 genotyped stoke mouse with - 12k SNPs, and 413 …
