Direct Measurements Of Nuclear Reactions In Hot Stellar Environments, Kevin Thomas Macon Jan 2016

Direct Measurements Of Nuclear Reactions In Hot Stellar Environments, Kevin Thomas Macon

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Understanding the origins of intermediate mass nuclei requires accurate knowledge of nuclear reaction rates. This thesis addresses two projects targeting measurements of nuclear cross sections relevant in hot astrophysical environments. Direct measurements of neutron capture on 67Zn and 68Zn were performed using the Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture Experiments (DANCE) at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). A new 68Zn(n,&gamma) cross section in the neutron energy range from 150 eV to 850 keV and Maxwellian-Averaged Cross Sections from 20 keV-100 keV are presented along with the details of the analysis. These reaction rates are important for …

Coastal Ecosystem Resiliency After Major Disturbances, Giovanna Mcclenachan Jan 2016

Coastal Ecosystem Resiliency After Major Disturbances, Giovanna Mcclenachan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Disturbances are a common occurrence in coastal ecosystems and can provide opportunity for adaptation and renewal in healthy systems; hurricanes bring mineral accretion to a marsh, floods provide a pulse of freshwater and nutrients to estuaries, and fires increase species diversity and abundance in forests. Humans, however, have depleted the resiliency of many coastal systems via top down and bottom up mechanisms, leaving these ecosystems more vulnerable to both natural and anthropogenic disturbances. Louisiana’s wetlands have been modified for centuries via canals, levees, agricultural impoundments, etc., leading to a decreased resiliency to land loss. The Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil spill …

Theory And Utility Of The Three Isotope Fractionation Relationship, Justin Alan Hayles Jan 2016

Theory And Utility Of The Three Isotope Fractionation Relationship, Justin Alan Hayles

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The field of isotope geochemistry began with the study of oxygen isotope geothermometry, most famously for carbonates. Traditionally oxygen isotope studies are only concerned with the relationship between one rare isotope, oxygen-18, and the common isotope, oxygen-16. In these cases, the abundance of the third stable isotope, oxygen-17 is ignored because for almost all terrestrial processes the 17O-16O relationship roughly scales with the 18O-16O relationship through a fractionation processes and is thought to not provide any new information. However, the discovery of large “mass independent” isotope effects for ozone chemistry has driven a multitude of uses for triple isotope relationships. …

Complexity Theory And Its Applications In Linear Quantum Optics, Jonathan Olson Jan 2016

Complexity Theory And Its Applications In Linear Quantum Optics, Jonathan Olson

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This thesis is intended in part to summarize and also to contribute to the newest developments in passive linear optics that have resulted, directly or indirectly, from the somewhat shocking discovery in 2010 that the BosonSampling problem is likely hard for a classical computer to simulate. In doing so, I hope to provide a historic context for the original result, as well as an outlook on the future of technology derived from these newer developments. An emphasis is made in each section to provide a broader conceptual framework for understanding the consequences of each result in light of the others. …

Riemann-Hilbert Formalism In The Study Of Crack Propagation In Domains With A Boundary, Aleksandr Smirnov Jan 2016

Riemann-Hilbert Formalism In The Study Of Crack Propagation In Domains With A Boundary, Aleksandr Smirnov

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The Wiener-Hopf technique is a powerful tool for constructing analytic solutions for a wide range of problems in physics and engineering. The key step in its application is solution of the Riemann-Hilbert problem, which consists of finding a piece-wise analytic (vector-) function in the complex plane for a specified behavior of its discontinuities. In this dissertation, the applied theory of vector Riemann-Hilbert problems is reviewed. The analytical solution representing the problem on a Riemann surface, and a numerical solution that reduces the problem to singular integral equations, are considered, as well as a combination of the numerical and analytical techniques …

On Properties Of Matroid Connectivity, Simon Pfeil Jan 2016

On Properties Of Matroid Connectivity, Simon Pfeil

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Highly connected matroids are consistently useful in the analysis of matroid structure. Round matroids, in particular, were instrumental in the proof of Rota's conjecture. Chapter 2 concerns a class of matroids with similar properties to those of round matroids. We provide many useful characterizations of these matroids, and determine explicitly their regular members. Tutte proved that a 3-connected matroid with every element in a 3-element circuit and a 3-element cocircuit is either a whirl or the cycle matroid of a wheel. This result led to the proof of the 3-connected splitter theorem. More recently, Miller proved that matroids of sufficient …

Single Crystal Growth And Physical Property Investigations Of Ca-Feas-Based Superconductors, Jiayun Pan Jan 2016

Single Crystal Growth And Physical Property Investigations Of Ca-Feas-Based Superconductors, Jiayun Pan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The discovery of Fe-based superconductors marked the beginning of a new era in unconventional superconductors. To date, the underlying superconducting mechanism has not yet been fully understood. Among Fe-based superconductors, the relatively new members are Ca10PtnAs8(Fe2As2)5 (n = 3, 4) and CaFeAs2. They are unique because they contain special adjacent layers, i.e., metallic Pt4As8 in Ca10Pt4As8(Fe2As2)5, semiconducting Pt3As8 in Ca10Pt3As8(Fe2As2)5, and As chains in CaFeAs2. The focus of this research is to understand the electrical and magnetic properties of Ca10PtnAs8(Fe2As2)5 (n = 3, 4) and CaFeAs2 in both the normal and superconducting state. Single crystals Ca10Pt4As8(Fe2As2)5 and Ca10Pt3As8(Fe2As2)5 with different …

The purpose of the research in this dissertation was to elucidate the intrinsic properties of how nanoparticles are different from bulk materials. This was done by mechanical and electronic studies of the properties of designed nanoparticles using advanced modes of atomic force microscopy. Information relating to the work functions, contact potential difference, Young’s Moduli, elasticity, and viscoelasticity can be investigated using state-of-the-art atomic force microscope (AFM) experiments. Subsurface imaging of polystyrene encapsulated cobalt nanoparticles was achieved for the first time using Force Modulation Microscopy (FMM) in conjunction with contact mode AFM. Previously prepared sample of polystyrene coated cobalt nanoparticles were …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Polyhalogenated Boron Dipyrromethenes And Carboranylbisthiophene Oligomers, Ning Zhao Jan 2016

Synthesis And Characterization Of Polyhalogenated Boron Dipyrromethenes And Carboranylbisthiophene Oligomers, Ning Zhao

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Chapter 1 of this dissertation shows a brief overview of fundamental concepts and classic synthetic routes of BODIPY dyes. The synthetic strategies and various application (e.g. PDT sensitizers and fluorescent indicators) of halogenated BODIPYs are also presented in this chapter. Chapters 2-4 describe the synthesis of three new polyhalogenated BODIPY platforms and their regioselective functionalization. Such new platforms provide new methodologies for producing both symmetric and asymmetric BODIPYs. Pd(0)-catalyzed cross-couplings and aromatic substitution reactions were applied to investigate the reactivity and regioselectivity of different halogen groups on the BODIPY platforms. The studies showed that the reactivity order of the halogens …

Intracontinental Neotectonics: Case Studies From The Tian Shan Orogen And Kuqa Fold-Thrust Belt, Cindy M. Colón Jan 2016

Intracontinental Neotectonics: Case Studies From The Tian Shan Orogen And Kuqa Fold-Thrust Belt, Cindy M. Colón

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on the kinematic properties of intracontinental deformation during short geologic time scales. Using three case studies this work characterizes active deformation at varying spatial scales within the continental interior of Eurasia. The far-field effect of the Cenozoic Indo-Asia collision is the driving force controlling deformation within the Eurasian continental interior. Active deformation across the intracontinental Tian Shan range challenges the plate tectonic model that proposes crustal deformation is concentrated along plate boundaries. This work further constrains the active kinematics of intracontinental motion that is necessary to understand the dynamics of the Eurasian intracontinental system. The two standing …

Geologic Extremes Of The Nw Himalaya: Investigations Of The Himalayan Ultra-High Pressure And Low Temperature Deformation Histories, Dennis Girard Donaldson Jan 2016

Geologic Extremes Of The Nw Himalaya: Investigations Of The Himalayan Ultra-High Pressure And Low Temperature Deformation Histories, Dennis Girard Donaldson

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on two extremes of orogenic development in the Himalaya: the timing of early ultra-high pressure related tectonics and the subsequent emplacement of the high grade Greater Himalayan Crystallines. The Himalayan orogeny is one of if not the best example of ongoing collisional systems, marked by the ongoing convergence of the Indian and Asian continents. The presence of coesite in the Tso Morari complex respresents subduction of the Indian continental crust to ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) conditions. However, the timing of UHP metamorphism is debated, creating an uncertainty in the calculation of subduction and exhumation rates. Petrologic and geochronologic analyses …

Microscopic Study Of Structure, Chemical Composition And Local Conductivity Of La2/3sr1/3mno3 Films, Lina Chen Jan 2016

Microscopic Study Of Structure, Chemical Composition And Local Conductivity Of La2/3sr1/3mno3 Films, Lina Chen

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) manganites have attracted intensive study due to their richness of underlying physics and potential technological applications. Of particular interest is half-metallic La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 (LSMO) because it possesses the highest known Curie temperature of the group ~ 370 K), which makes it a promising candidate for room temperature spintronic applications. On the other hand, LSMO ultrathin films exhibit a metal-insulator transition (MIT) when reducing film thickness. The origin of such a thickness-dependent MIT remains highly controversial, though understanding and controlling this kind of behavior is necessary for any possible device applications. An essential first step then, and the …

Dynamics Of Land Building And Ecological Succession In A Prograding Deltaic Floodplain, Wax Lake Delta, La, Usa, Azure Elizabeth Bevington Jan 2016

Dynamics Of Land Building And Ecological Succession In A Prograding Deltaic Floodplain, Wax Lake Delta, La, Usa, Azure Elizabeth Bevington

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Deltas are globally important locations of diverse ecosystems, human settlement and economic activity that are threatened by reduced sediment delivery, accelerated sea level rise, and subsidence. In this dissertation I investigated a number of aspects of the ecosystem development over time within an actively prograding river dominated delta along the northern Gulf of Mexico coast. I outlined a conceptual model of deltaic floodplain wetland establishment and succession focused on the vegetated deltaic floodplain ecosystem, which includes subtidal, intertidal and supratidal zones. This was used to guide the experimental design and statistically driven hypothesis testing in order to ascertain the validity …

Immune Gene Variation And Susceptibility To Upper Respiratory Tract Disease In Gopher Tortoises, Jean Pierre Elbers Jan 2016

Immune Gene Variation And Susceptibility To Upper Respiratory Tract Disease In Gopher Tortoises, Jean Pierre Elbers

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The immune system defends the host from bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. The immune system is partially under genetic control through immune response genes, such as those of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) whose nucleotide variation influences the host’s ability to recognize foreign pathogens and can influence disease susceptibility. Populations of threatened species generally possess low levels of genetic variation, and genetically depauperate hosts may be at greater risk of infectious disease contributing to extirpations because they also possess low immunogenetic variation. My dissertation examines the relationship between immunogenetic variation and disease susceptibility and the factors that influence innate immune …

A Conditioned Gaussian-Poisson Model For Default Phenomena, Tyler Brannan Jan 2016

A Conditioned Gaussian-Poisson Model For Default Phenomena, Tyler Brannan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

We introduce a new model to study the behavior of a portfolio of defaultable assets. We refer to this model as the Gaussian-Poisson model. It builds upon one-factor Gaussian copula models and Poisson models (specifically Cox processes). Our model utilizes a random variable Y along with probability measures ℙ and ℙ. The measures ℙ and ℙ will act as market pricing measures and are obtained via conditioning. The random variable Y will act as a default descriptor.

We provide the distribution of Y under both ℙ and ℙ. We use a conditional …

Peptidomimetic Polymers: Advances In Monomer Design And Polymerization Methods, Brandon Andrew Chan Jan 2016

Peptidomimetic Polymers: Advances In Monomer Design And Polymerization Methods, Brandon Andrew Chan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This work is focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of polypeptide and polypeptoid polymers. The former are composed of amino acid repeat units and possess intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions allowing for the self-assembly into well-defined secondary structures (e.g. α-helix). Polypeptoids are based on N-alkyl substituted glycine and lack intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions, resulting in enhanced proteolytic stability and thermal processability. Physicochemical properties of polypeptoids are strongly dependent on the side chain structures, allow for control of the solubility, crystallinity, and conformation of the polymers. Well-defined polypeptides and polypeptoids are synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of their corresponding N-carboxyanhydride …

Towards Theory And Applications Of Generalized Categories To Areas Of Type Theory And Categorical Logic, Lucius Traylor Schoenbaum Jan 2016

Towards Theory And Applications Of Generalized Categories To Areas Of Type Theory And Categorical Logic, Lucius Traylor Schoenbaum

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Motivated by potential applications to theoretical computer science, in particular those areas where the Curry-Howard correspondence plays an important role, as well as by the ongoing search in pure mathematics for feasible approaches to higher category theory, we undertake a detailed study of a new mathematical abstraction, the generalized category. It is a partially defined monoid equipped with endomorphism maps defining sources and targets on arbitrary elements, possibly allowing a proximal behavior with respect to composition. We first present a formal introduction to the theory of generalized categories. We describe functors, equivalences, natural transformations, adjoints, and limits in the generalized …

Synthetic Efforts Towards The Synthesis Of Prostaglandin Pgf2a, Amy Marie Pollard Jan 2016

Synthetic Efforts Towards The Synthesis Of Prostaglandin Pgf2a, Amy Marie Pollard

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation describes strategies for synthesizing prostaglandin PGF2α. Our synthetic design creates the stereochemistry needed for the core and side chains of the target prostaglandin PGF2 alpha and PGF2 alpha synthase selective analogues while incorporating iodocyclization desymmetrization of acyclic dienes. A model system for 4-(iodomethyl)-6-methyl-1,3-dioxan-2-one was developed and synthesized for our target compound 4-(2-(benzyloxy)ethyl)-6-(iodomethyl)-5-vinyl-1,3-dioxan-2-one. Both compounds were successfully synthesized providing useful stereocenters for completing the synthesis of prostaglandin PGF2 alpha. Efforts toward total stereochemical control of PGF2α include the partial syntheses of bis-diethylanimedimethylsilane and of (4S,5S)-2-((1E,3E)-penta-1,3-dien-1-yl)-4,5-diphenyl-1,3-ditosyl-1,3,2-diazaborolidine.

Understanding Chemical Reactions In Novel Materials: From Metal Organic Frameworks To Oxyallyl Cations, Kiara Taylor-Edinbyrd Jan 2016

Understanding Chemical Reactions In Novel Materials: From Metal Organic Frameworks To Oxyallyl Cations, Kiara Taylor-Edinbyrd

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The work of this dissertation investigates the chemical processes of novel materials through quantum mechanical calculations and molecular dynamics simulations. The first section of this work focuses on probing copper based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) for their ability to catalytically release nitric oxide from s-nitrosothiol (RSNO) precursors in a slow, controlled and sustained manner and compares these findings to a free copper ion/ethanol solution. Through the use of electronic structure calculations and molecular dynamics simulations, studies are carried out to better understand how the barriers of RSNOs approach to the catalytic copper center changes with modifications to the R-group (of …

Particulate Inorganic Carbon Flux And Sediment Transport Dynamics In Karst: Significance To Landscape Evolution And The Carbon Cycle., Randall Lee Paylor Jan 2016

Particulate Inorganic Carbon Flux And Sediment Transport Dynamics In Karst: Significance To Landscape Evolution And The Carbon Cycle., Randall Lee Paylor

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Research focused on three areas of karst hydrogeology and sediment transport that have been poorly studied in the past: the role of particulate inorganic carbon transport in calculating carbon sink rates in karst; rapid changes in surface vs. subsurface sediment mixing in karst conduits; and comparison of landscape denudation calculations using dissolved carbonate load vs. total dissolved/sediment load. Carbonate bedrock weathering is a significant component of the atmospheric carbon sink. Particulate inorganic carbon (PIC) in bed and suspended sediment load of karst waters is frequently dismissed as insignificant for calculating denudation and carbon transport/sink rates, but PIC flux has not …

Application Of Biomass Derived Materials In Nanocomposites And Drilling Fluids, Kunlin Song Jan 2016

Application Of Biomass Derived Materials In Nanocomposites And Drilling Fluids, Kunlin Song

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Tar is inevitably produced from biomass thermochemical processes, and is often disposed as an industrial waste, leading to environmental pollution. As a result of its high carbon content, tar was expected to be a promising precursor for manufacturing carbon materials. Consequently, low-cost porous carbon nanofibers (CNFs) using tar, polyacrylonitrile (PAN), and silver nanoparticles was fabricated through electrospinning and subsequent stabilization and carbonization processes. The continuous electrospun nanofibers were obtained with diameters ranging from 392 to 903 nm. The addition of biomass tar resulted in increased fiber diameters, reduced thermal stabilities, and slowed cyclization reactions of PAN in the as-spun nanofibers. …

Design And Implementation Of Qcm Virtual Sensing Schemes For Analyses Of Volatile Organic Compounds, Nicholas Colby Speller Jan 2016

Design And Implementation Of Qcm Virtual Sensing Schemes For Analyses Of Volatile Organic Compounds, Nicholas Colby Speller

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Sensor arrays have evolved as powerful approaches for providing detection and discrimination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as required across numerous analytical applications. Such systems typically comprise a number of cross reactive sensor elements, which generate analyte specific response patterns upon exposure to VOCs, and are known as multisensor arrays. When evaluated using statistical methods, these response patterns facilitate classification of VOCs. As an alternative, a single dynamically operated sensor could also be used to generate analyte specific response patterns. This approach is known as a virtual sensor array (VSA) and can exhibit significant advantages when compared to MSAs. Some …

Fundamental Studies Of Humic Acid's Influence On Pollutant Toxicity To Aquatic Organisms, Rachel Dawn Deese Jan 2016

Fundamental Studies Of Humic Acid's Influence On Pollutant Toxicity To Aquatic Organisms, Rachel Dawn Deese

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The main purpose of the research presented in this dissertation was to further understand the intricate and convoluted interactions between natural organic material, biological entities, and pollutants. This was achieved by utilizing humic acids (HAs) from differing sources, chemically modified humic acid, two biological entities (model biomembranes and Artemia Franciscana), and three types of pollutants (cations, surfactants, and carbon nanotubes). Fluorescence spectroscopy and model biomembranes were used to measure the change in HA’s ability to interact with the biomembranes in the presence of cations. Three differently sourced HAs, chemical modified HAs, and a range of cations were studied to elucidate …

Excluding A Weakly 4-Connected Minor, Kimberly Sevin D'Souza Jan 2016

Excluding A Weakly 4-Connected Minor, Kimberly Sevin D'Souza

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

A 3-connected graph $G$ is called weakly 4-connected if min $(|E(G_1)|, |E(G_2)|) \leq 4$ holds for all 3-separations $(G_1,G_2)$ of $G$. A 3-connected graph $G$ is called quasi 4-connected if min $(|V(G_1)|, |V(G_2)|) \leq 4$. We first discuss how to decompose a 3-connected graph into quasi 4-connected components. We will establish a chain theorem which will allow us to easily generate the set of all quasi 4-connected graphs. Finally, we will apply these results to characterizing all graphs which do not contain the Pyramid as a minor, where the Pyramid is the weakly 4-connected graph obtained by performing a $\Delta …

Biomedical Applications Of Thiol-Acrylate Polymers, Leah Alyce Garber Jan 2016

Biomedical Applications Of Thiol-Acrylate Polymers, Leah Alyce Garber

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The development of biocompatible polymers using thiol-acrylate Michael addition reactions between not only acrylates and thiols but also between amines and acrylates were demonstrated. The synthesis of an in situ tertiary amine catalyst initiates the propagation steps of the polymerization process by subsequently reacting with trimethylolpropane tris (3-mercaptopropionate) (TMPTMP). A few notable characteristics of this reaction are tunable gel times, the capability of reaching high polymer conversion and suitable mechanical strength. With addition of hydroxyapatite to the polymeric phase and foaming, a porous bone composite was produced. Further osteogenisis and in vivo work using the PETA-co-TMPTMP (HA) composite material was …

Properties Of Polynomial Identity Quantized Weyl Algebras, Jesse S. F. Levitt Jan 2016

Properties Of Polynomial Identity Quantized Weyl Algebras, Jesse S. F. Levitt

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

In this work on Polynomial Identity (PI) quantized Weyl algebras we begin with a brief survey of Poisson geometry and quantum cluster algebras, before using these as tools to classify the possible centers of such algebras in two different ways. In doing so we explicitly calculate the formulas of the discriminants of these algebras in terms of a general class of central polynomial subalgebras. From this we can classify all members of this family of algebras free over their centers while proving that their discriminants have the properties of effectiveness and local domination. Applying these results to the family of …

Method Of The Riemann-Hilbert Problem For The Solution Of The Helmholtz Equation In A Semi-Infinite Strip, Ashar Ghulam Jan 2016

Method Of The Riemann-Hilbert Problem For The Solution Of The Helmholtz Equation In A Semi-Infinite Strip, Ashar Ghulam

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

In this dissertation, a new method is developed to study BVPs of the modified Helmholtz and Helmholtz equations in a semi-infinite strip subject to the Poincare type, impedance and higher order boundary conditions. The main machinery used here is the theory of Riemann Hilbert problems, the residue theory of complex variables and the theory of integral transforms. A special kind of interconnected Laplace transforms are introduced whose parameters are related through branch of a multi-valued function. In the chapter 1 a brief review of the unified transform method used to solve BVPs of linear and non-linear integrable PDEs in convex …

Contemporary Organic Transformations Enabled By Novel Cationic Processes, Caitlan Elizabeth Ayala Jan 2016

Contemporary Organic Transformations Enabled By Novel Cationic Processes, Caitlan Elizabeth Ayala

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on the development of synthetic methodologies in organic synthesis in two different areas. Chapter 1 discusses the more recent examples of transforming alcohols to their corresponding alkyl chlorides. The first area of our group’s research interest is the development of a mild chlorination method from unactivated alcohols, detailed in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 provides an insight into the history of oxyallyl cations, the basis of the second methodology development project in our laboratory. This chapter focuses on the traditional reactions that utilize these reactive intermediates, and it also showcases the concept of direct nucleophilic addition and the …

Circumstellar Dust Shells: Clues To The Evolution Of R Coronae Borealis Stars, Edward Joseph Montiel Jan 2016

Circumstellar Dust Shells: Clues To The Evolution Of R Coronae Borealis Stars, Edward Joseph Montiel

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The existence of extended, cold dust envelopes surrounding R Coronae Borealis (RCB) stars has been known about for over 30 years. RCB stars are an exotic group of extremely hydrogen-deficient, carbon-rich supergiants that are known for their spectacular declines in brightness (up to 8 mags) at irregular intervals. There are three possible origins of these envelopes: (1) they are fossil planetary nebulae (PNe), indicating that RCB stars formed via a final Helium-shell flash; (2) they are the remnant material from the merger of a CO and a He white dwarf binary, (3) they have been constructed from dust ejection events …

Study Of Condensed Matter Systems With Monte Carlo Simulation On Heterogeneous Computing Systems, Sheng Feng Jan 2016

Study Of Condensed Matter Systems With Monte Carlo Simulation On Heterogeneous Computing Systems, Sheng Feng

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

We study the Edwards-Anderson model on a simple cubic lattice with a finite constant external field. We employ an indicator composed of a ratio of susceptibilities at finite momenta, which was recently proposed to avoid the difficulties of a zero momentum quantity, for capturing the spin glass phase transition. Unfortunately, this new indicator is fairly noisy, so a large pool of samples at low temperature and small external field are needed to generate results with a sufficiently small statistical error for analysis. We thus implement the Monte Carlo method using graphics processing units to drastically speed up the simulation. We …
