Piloting A Logic-Based Framework For Understanding Organisational Change Process For A Health It Implementation, Kieren Diment, Karin Garrety, Ping Yu

This paper describes how a method for evaluating organisational change based on the theory of logical types can be used for classifying organisational change processes to understand change after the implementation of an electronic documentation system in a residential aged care facility. In this instance we assess the organisational change reflected by care staff's perceptions of the benefits of the new documentation system at one site, at pre-implementation, and at 12 months post-implementation. The results show how a coherent view from the staff as a whole of the personal benefits, the benefits for others and the benefits for the organization …

Complex Adaptive Systems As A Model For Evaluating Organisational Change Caused By The Introduction Of Health Information Systems, Kieren Diment Mr, Ping Yu, K. Garrety Aug 2009

Complex Adaptive Systems As A Model For Evaluating Organisational Change Caused By The Introduction Of Health Information Systems, Kieren Diment Mr, Ping Yu, K. Garrety

This paper documents the preliminary development of a framework for evaluating organisational change processes during the implementation of an electronic nursing documentation system in residential aged care facilities. It starts with a brief outline of organisational change processes. This is followed by a more detailed exposition of the principles underlying complex adaptive systems (CAS) theory, where we explain how mathematical concepts can be used to illuminate qualitative research approaches. Finally we present some preliminary findings on the facilitators and barriers for the introduction of the electronic documentation system, explained with reference to the CAS theory, based on analysis of interviews …

Space-Time-Frequency Code Implementation In Mb-Ofdm Uwb Communications: Design Criteria And Performance, Alfred Mertins, Le Chung Tran Jan 2009

Space-Time-Frequency Code Implementation In Mb-Ofdm Uwb Communications: Design Criteria And Performance, Alfred Mertins, Le Chung Tran

Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)

This paper proposes a general framework of Space-Time-Frequency Codes (STFCs) for Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) communications systems. A great similarity between the STFC MB-OFDM UWB systems and conventional wireless Complex Orthogonal Space-Time Block Code (CO STBC) Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems is discovered. This allows us to quantify the pairwise error probability (PEP) of the proposed system and derive the general decoding method for the implemented STFCs. Based on the theoretical analysis results of PEP, we can further quantify the diversity order and coding gain of MB-OFDM UWB systems, and derive the design criteria for STFCs, …

Implementation Of Artificial Intelligence Technique To Model Arc Furnace Responses, A.M.O Haruni, Michael Negnevitsky, M.E Haque, Kashem Muttaqi Jan 2008

Implementation Of Artificial Intelligence Technique To Model Arc Furnace Responses, A.M.O Haruni, Michael Negnevitsky, M.E Haque, Kashem Muttaqi

Random variations of the bus voltage and power consumption of an electric arc furnace (EAF) have a significant impact on power generation equipment, transient stability of the power system network and power quality to other interconnected loads. Therefore, an accurate representation of the load's dynamic behaviour under various system disturbances is very important. This paper presents an arc furnace model using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) in order to capture random, non-linear and time-varying load pattern of an arc furnace. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, several case studies are presented where the outputs of the proposed model …

In health informatics, the "updated DeLone and McLean IS success model" is reviewed as a mature model in measuring health information system (HIS) success. This research provided an evaluation model to estimate the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) systems from a health professional perspective by combined the updated DeLone and McLean IS success model, data quality management model, and EMR systems safety attributes. Based on evidence-based management (EBM), this research could be regarded as an empirical example for further EMR systems research since it not only provided a model to measure the Taiwanese EMR systems in two hospitals by …

On Implementing Mpeg-21 Intellectual Property Management And Protection, N. P. Sheppard Oct 2007

On Implementing Mpeg-21 Intellectual Property Management And Protection, N. P. Sheppard

Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)

The MPEG-21 Intellectual Property Management and Protection (&lquot;IPMP&rquot;) Components specify a framework for inter-operable and renewable digital rights management based on IPMP tools that implement proprietary digital rights management features. MPEG-21 defines the mechanism by which protected multimedia objects are associated with proprietary IPMP tools, but does not specify the interface through which IPMP tools and MPEG-21 terminals communicate. This paper describes an implementation of the IPMP components including an interface to IPMP tools based on the MPEG Rights Expression Language; dynamic construction of authorisation proofs that permit a principal to carry out an action; and a cryptographic architecture bound …

The Acceptance Of A Clinical It Innovation By The Care Givers In Residential Aged Care 11-Weeks After The Software Implementation In Australia, Ping Yu, Hui Yu, Yi Mu Jan 2007

The Acceptance Of A Clinical It Innovation By The Care Givers In Residential Aged Care 11-Weeks After The Software Implementation In Australia, Ping Yu, Hui Yu, Yi Mu

End user acceptance and satisfaction with a new IT innovation is the pre-requisite for the successful introduction of this IT solutino into an organization. More than 70 per cent of health IT projects have failed to a certain extent because of its failure to satisfy the functional or non-functional requirements of the end users and thus were not accepted by them. To date, there is no sound evidence to suggest that clinical IT solutions will bring in benefits for a residential aged care facility. This is a real concern for aged care management in investment in clinical IT solutions in …

Application Of Semistructured Data Model To The Implementation Of Semantic Content-Based Video Retrieval System, Lilac A. E. Al-Safadi, Janusz R. Getta Jan 2007

Application Of Semistructured Data Model To The Implementation Of Semantic Content-Based Video Retrieval System, Lilac A. E. Al-Safadi, Janusz R. Getta

Semantic indexing of a video document is a process that performs the identification of elementary and complex semantic units in the indexed document in order to create a semantic index defined as a mapping of semantic units into the sequences of video frames. Semantic content-based video retrieval system is a software system that uses a semantic index built over a collection of video documents to retrieve the sequences of video frames that satisfy the given conditions. This work introduces a new multilevel view of data for the semantic content-based video retrieval systems. At the topmost level, we define an abstract …

Harmonic Allocation Constant For Implementation Of As/Nzs 61000.3.6, D A. Robinson, Victor J. Gosbell, Sarath Perera Jan 2001

Harmonic Allocation Constant For Implementation Of As/Nzs 61000.3.6, D A. Robinson, Victor J. Gosbell, Sarath Perera

Allocation of equal harmonic emission rights to MV customers having the same maximum demand is a key concept in the new Australian harmonic standard AS/NZS 61000.3.6 [1]. Some difficulty can arise with the application of the standard when customers are spread out along a feeder with significantly different fault levels. One proposed method of overcoming this problem is to reduce the allocation as the square root of the fault level [2]. This method requires the calculation of an allocation constant that is applied to all customers connected to the same zone substation. This paper gives a methodology for calculating the …
