Probe Current Determination In Analytical Tem/Stem And Its Application To The Characterization Of Large Area Eds Detectors, David R. G Mitchell, Mitchell John Bromley Nancarrow

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

A simple procedure, which enables accurate measurement of transmission electron microscopy (TEM)/STEM probe currents using an energy loss spectrometer drift tube is described. The currents obtained are compared with those measured on the fluorescent screen to enable the losses due to secondary and backscattered electrons to be determined. The current values obtained from the drift tube allow the correction of fluorescent screen current densities to yield true current. They also enable CCD conversion efficiencies to be obtained, which in turn allows images to be calibrated in terms of electron fluence. Using probes of known current in conjunction with a NiO …

A Stochastic And Flexible Activity Based Model For Large Population Application To Belgium, Johan Barthelemy, Philippe L. Toint Jan 2015

A Stochastic And Flexible Activity Based Model For Large Population Application To Belgium, Johan Barthelemy, Philippe L. Toint

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

The VirtualBelgium project aims at developing an understanding of the evolution of the Belgian population using agent-based simulations and considering various aspects of this evolution such as demographics, residential choices, activity patterns, mobility, etc. This simulation is based on a validated synthetic population consisting of approximately 10,000,000 individuals and 4,350,000 households located in the 589 municipalities of Belgium. The work presented in this paper focuses only on the mobility behaviour of such large populations and this is simulated using an activity-based approach in which the travel demand is derived from the activities performed by the individuals. The proposed model is …

The Effect Of Surface Passivation On The Structure Of Sulphur-Rich Pbs Colloidal Quantum Dots For Photovoltaic Application, Victor Malgras, Andrew Nattestad, Yusuke Yamauchi, S X. Dou, Jung Ho Kim Jan 2015

The Effect Of Surface Passivation On The Structure Of Sulphur-Rich Pbs Colloidal Quantum Dots For Photovoltaic Application, Victor Malgras, Andrew Nattestad, Yusuke Yamauchi, S X. Dou, Jung Ho Kim

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The use of PbS colloidal quantum dots in photovoltaic devices is very promising because of their simple and low cost production processes and their unique properties, such as bandgap tunability and potential multiple exciton generation. Here we report the synthesis of PbS nanocrystals used for application in solar cells. The sulphur-rich nature of their surface appears to be caused by the exposure to ambient conditions. The use of methanol as medium during the ligand exchange process has a crucial role in the removal of native oleate ligands. Without proper ligand exchange, the unpassivated surface is subject to ambient hydroxylation leading …

Reduced Graphene Oxide And Polypyrrole/Reduced Graphene Oxide Composite Coated Stretchable Fabric Electrodes For Supercapacitor Application, Chen Zhao, Kewei Shu, Caiyun Wang, Sanjeev Gambhir, Gordon G. Wallace

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The advent of self-powered functional garments has given rise to a demand for stretchable energy storage devices that are amendable to integration into textile structures. The electromaterials (anode, cathode and separator) are expected to sustain a deformation of 3% to 55% associated with body movement. Here, we report a stretchable fabric supercapacitor electrode using commonly available nylon lycra fabric as the substrate and graphene oxide (GO) as a dyestuff. It was prepared via a facile dyeing approach followed by a mild chemical reduction. This reduced graphene oxide (rGO) coated fabric electrode retains conductivity at an applied strain of up to …

A Comparison Of Chemical And Electrochemical Synthesis Of Pedot: Dextran Sulphate For Bio-Application, Leo Stevens, David G. Harman, Kerry J. Gilmore, Marc In Het Panhuis, Gordon G. Wallace Jan 2015

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is an organic conducting polymer that has been the focus of significant research over the last decade, in both energy and biological applications. Most commonly, PEDOT is doped by the artificial polymer polystyrene sulfonate due to the excellent electrical characteristics yielded by this pairing. The biopolymer dextran sulphate (DS) has been recently reported as a promising alternative to PEDOT: PSS for biological application, having electrical properties rivaling PEDOT: PSS, complimented by the potential bioactivity of the polysaccharide. In this work we compared chemical and electrochemical polymerisations of PEDOT: DS in terms of their impact on the electrical, morphological …

Large-Scale Synthesis Of Ordered Mesoporous Carbon Fiber And Its Application As Cathode Material For Lithium-Sulfur Batteries, Hongqiang Wang, Chaofeng Zhang, Zhixin Chen, Hua-Kun Liu, Zaiping Guo Jan 2015

Large-Scale Synthesis Of Ordered Mesoporous Carbon Fiber And Its Application As Cathode Material For Lithium-Sulfur Batteries, Hongqiang Wang, Chaofeng Zhang, Zhixin Chen, Hua-Kun Liu, Zaiping Guo

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

A novel type of one-dimensional ordered mesoporous carbon fiber has been prepared via the electrospinning technique by using resol as the carbon source and triblock copolymer Pluronic F127 as the template. Sulfur is then encapsulated in this ordered mesoporous carbon fibers by a simple thermal treatment. The interwoven fibrous nanostructure has favorably mechanical stability and can provide an effective conductive network for sulfur and polysulfides during cycling. The ordered mesopores can also restrain the diffusion of long-chain polysulfides. The resulting ordered mesoporous carbon fiber sulfur (OMCF-S) composite with 63% S exhibits high reversible capacity, good capacity retention and enhanced rate …
