Asymptotic Formulas For The Resonance Eigenvalues Of The Schrödinger Operator, Sedef Karakiliç, O. A. Veli̇ev, Ş. Atilgan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we consider the Schrödinger operators defined by the differential expression Lu= - \Delta u + q(x)u in d-dimensional paralellepiped F, with the Dirichlet and the Neumann boundary conditions, where q(x) is a real valued function of L_2(F). We obtain the asymptotic formulas for the resonance eigenvalues of these operators

The Basis Number Of The Semi-Composition Product Of Some Graphs I, M. M. Jaradat, E. A. Rawashdeh, M. Y. Alzoubi
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The basis number of a graph G is defined to be the least integer d such that there is a basis \mathcal{B} of the cycle space of G such that each edge of G is contained in at most d members of \mathcal{B}. We investigate the basis number of the semi-composition product of two paths and a cycle with a path.

On Groups With The Weak Wide Commensurable Property, Ayşe Berkman, Mahmut Kuzucuoğlu, Erdal Özyurt
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
An infinite group with the weak wide commensurable property is shown to be abelian, provided that it is locally finite or locally graded or non-perfect or linear. We also investigate the properties of infinite non-abelian groups with the weak wide commensurable property. Moreover, we describe completely the structure of infinite locally finite groups whose p-subgroups have the weak wide commensurable property. (AMS MSC: 20F50, 20E34).
Valuations Of Polynomials, Sorasak Leeratanavalee
Valuations Of Polynomials, Sorasak Leeratanavalee
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
A tree is a connected (undirected) graph that contains no cycles. Trees play an important role in Computer Science. There are many applications in this field. Ordered binary decision diagrams are trees in the language of Boolean algebras. For the applications, it is important to measure the complexity of a tree or of a polynomial. The complexity of a polynomial over an arbitrary algebra can be regarded as a valuation. The concept of the valuations of terms was introduced by K. Denecke and S. L. Wismath in [5]. In [6], the author defined the depth of a polynomial which is …

Maximum Entropy-Based Fuzzy Clustering By Using L_1-Norm Space, Mohammad Ghorbani
Maximum Entropy-Based Fuzzy Clustering By Using L_1-Norm Space, Mohammad Ghorbani
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
One of the most important methods in analysis of large data sets is clustering. These methods are not only major tools to uncover the underlying structures of a given data set, but also promising tools to uncover local input-output relations of a complex system. The goal of this paper is to present a new approach to fuzzy clustering by using L_1-norm space by means of a maximum entropy inference method, where, firstly, the resulting formulas have more beautiful form and clearer physical meaning than those obtained by means of FCM method and secondly, the obtained criteria by this new method …
Formulas For The Fourier Coefficients Of Cusp Form For Some Quadratic Forms, Ahmet Tekcan
Formulas For The Fourier Coefficients Of Cusp Form For Some Quadratic Forms, Ahmet Tekcan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, representations of positive integers by certain quadratic forms Q_p defined for odd prime p are examined. The number of representations of positive integer n by the quadratic form Q_p, is denoted by r(n;Q_p), obtained for p=3,5 and 7.\thinspace We prove that r(n;Q_p)=\rho (n;Q_p)+\vartheta (n;Q_p) for p=3,5 and 7, where \rho (n;Q_p) is the singular series and \vartheta (n;Q_p) is the Fourier coefficient of cusp form.
2-Quasi-\Lambda-Nuclear Maps, Wasfi Shatanawi
2-Quasi-\Lambda-Nuclear Maps, Wasfi Shatanawi
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper we generalize the well-known result which says that the composition of quasi-nuclear maps is nuclear. More precisely, we define what we call a 2-quasi-\lambda -nuclear map between normed spaces, and we prove that the composition of a 2-quasi-\lambda -nuclear map with a quasi- \lambda -nuclear map is a pseudo-\lambda -nuclear map. Also, we prove that a quasi-\lambda -nuclear map is a 2-quasi-\lambda -nuclear map. For a nuclear G_{\infty} -space, we prove that a linear map T between normed spaces is 2-quasi-\lambda -nuclear if and only if it is quasi-\lambda -nuclear

An Exponential Model For Treatment Effects Without A Control Group, Kemal Gürsoy
An Exponential Model For Treatment Effects Without A Control Group, Kemal Gürsoy
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
It may be desirable to estimate the behaviour of a pair of random variables and their functions through the information acquired by utilizing only one of them and its functions. In this work, such an approach has been used. Motivated by the need to provide treatment to every patient in a new drug trial, an exponential model was considered. This approach provides sufficient information to make inferences about the effect of a treatment without using a control group who will be otherwise denied treatment, as an alternative method to the commonly used controlled clinical trials.

We consider the intuitionistic fuzzification of the concept of several ideals in a semigroup S, and investigate some properties of such ideals.
Constructing New K3 Surfaces, Selma Altinok
Constructing New K3 Surfaces, Selma Altinok
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
This paper is concerned with a method based on birational geometry and produces dozens of new examples in codimensions 3, 4, 5 etc. The method is called unprojection by Reid. Using this method we construct new examples of K3 surfaces of codimensions 3 and 4 in weighted projective spaces from smaller codimension K3 surfaces whose rings are much simpler. This leads to the existence of almost all candidates for codimension 3 K3 surfaces in the list.
On Jordan Generalized Higher Derivations In Rings, Wagner Cortes, Claus Haetinger
On Jordan Generalized Higher Derivations In Rings, Wagner Cortes, Claus Haetinger
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
I. N. Herstein proved that any Jordan derivation on a prime ring of characteristic not 2 is a derivation. M. Breşar extended this result to semiprime rings, while M. Ferrero and C. Haetinger extended the result to Jordan higher derivations. Recently, M. Ashraf and N. Rehman considered the question of Herstein for a Jordan generalized derivation. This paper extends Ashraf's Theorem. We prove that if R is a 2-torsion-free ring which has a commutator right nonzero divisor, then every Jordan generalized higher derivation on R is a generalized higher derivation.

Spacelike Normal Curves In Minkowski Space E^3_1, Kazim İlarslan
Spacelike Normal Curves In Minkowski Space E^3_1, Kazim İlarslan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In the Euclidean space E^3, it is well known that normal curves, i.e., curves with position vector always lying in their normal plane, are spherical curves [3]. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a curve to be a spherical curve in Euclidean 3-space are given in [10] and [11]. In this paper, we give some characterizations of spacelike normals curves with spacelike, timelike or null principal normal in the Minkowski 3-space E^3_1.

Su(2) Representations Of The Groups Of Integer Tangles, Tangül Uygur
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this work we classify the irreducible SU(2) representations of \Pi_1(S^3\backslash k_n) where k_n is an integer n tangle and as a result we have proved the following theorem: Let n be an odd integer then \mathcal{R}^{\ast}(\Pi_1(S^3 \backslash k_n)) /SO(3) is the disjoint union of n open arcs where \mathcal{R}^{\ast}(\Pi _1(S^3 \backslash k_n)) is the space of irreducible representations.
Weighted Boundedness For A Rough Homogeneous Singular Integral, Hussain Al-Qassem
Weighted Boundedness For A Rough Homogeneous Singular Integral, Hussain Al-Qassem
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
A weighted norm inequality for a homogeneous singular integral with a kernel belonging to a certain block space is proved. Also, some applications of this inequality are obtained. Our results are essential improvements as well as extensions of some known results on the weighted boundedness of singular integrals.

Stratigraphy And Geochronology Of The Early Miocene Volcanic Units In The Bigadiç Borate Basin, Western Turkey, Fuat Erkül, Cahi̇t Helvaci, Hasan Sözbi̇li̇r
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Western Turkey has undergone an intense deformation which has given rise to two types of basins since the Late Oligocene: NE-trending and E-W-trending basins situated on the basement rocks of the Menderes Massif, the Sakarya Zone, the Lycian nappes and the Bornova Flysch Zone. One of the NE-trending basins, the Bigadiç borate basin, is located in the Bornova Flysch Zone - a 50-90-km-wide zone between the Sakarya Zone and the Menderes Massif. Lower Miocene successions are dominated by lacustrine, fluvial, evaporitic sedimentary rocks and numerous NE-trending volcanic centres which produced considerable amounts of lava and volcaniclastic detritus in the Bigadiç …

Genetic Relations Between Skarn Mineralization And Petrogenesis Of The Evciler Granitoid, Kazdağ, Çanakkale, Turkey And Comparison With World Skarn Granitoids, Yeşi̇m Yücel Öztürk, Cahi̇t Helvaci, Muharrem Satir
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Most skarn deposits are directly related to magmatic activity, and there is a systematic correlation between the composition of causative plutons and the metal contents of the related skarns. This paper documents the composition of facies within the Evciler pluton and correlations between intrusion composition and the metal contents of associated skarns. There have been previous studies of mines (e.g., Cu mines) in the Evciler district, however, there have been no detailed geological investigations of such ore deposits or associated skarn mineralization. In the Evciler district both calcic exoskarn (garnet-pyroxene) and endoskarn (pyroxene-epidote) occur along the contacts between granitoid and …

Water-Level Changes In Shallow Wells Before And After The 1999 İzmit And Düzce Earthquakes And Comparison With Long-Term Water-Level Observations (1999–2004), Nw Turkey, Cenk Yaltirak, Tolga Yalçin, Erkan Bozkurtoğlu, Gali̇p Yüce
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
It is well known that earthquakes cause hydrological changes, such as drying or flooding of water wells, fluctuations in ground-water levels in wells, changes in water quality, and formation of new springs. Significant drops in ground-water levels in wells were recorded during recent earthquakes in NW Turkey on August 17, 1999 in İzmit and on November 12, 1999 in Düzce. The İzmit earthquake (Ms 7.4) caused pre-seismic water-level changes in wells at Eskişehir, located 118-216 km away from the epicentre. Well-level changes in the Eskişehir, Sakarya, Bursa, Yalova, Yenişehir and İnegöl basins were recorded prior to and after the Düzce …

Evolution Of And Factors Controlling Eocene Sedimentation In The Darende-Balaban Basin, Malatya (Eastern Turkey), Kemal Gürbüz, Murat Gül
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Collision of the Arabian and Anatolian plates affected evolution of basins located along the southern flank of the Anatolian Plate. The Darende-Balaban foreland basin is one such basin a basin filled with Upper Cretaceous and Eocene sediments, accumulated unconformably and transgressively above ophiolitic and carbonate basement rocks. This basin is locally surrounded, to the north and south, by Late JurassicEarly Cretaceous structural highs created by tectonic elements during the collision of Arabia and Anatolia. This paper aims to describe the factors controlling and evolution of the Eocene sedimentation in the Darende-Balaban basin. The basin fill comprises two distinct sequences …

Alpine Metamorphism And Granitoid Magmatism In The Strandja Zone: New Data From The Sakar Unit, Se Bulgaria, Ianko Gerdjikov
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The Strandja Zone is a pre-Cenomanian orogen consisting of three tectonic units: the Veleka, Strandja and Sakar units. The first two units display very low-grade Alpine metamorphism, whereas in the Sakar unit the Triassic sediments are metamorphosed to the amphibolite facies. For years this high-grade metamorphism was enigmatic and most of the metamorphic rocks were interpreted as a reworked Precambrian crust of the Rhodope. This contribution begins with a review of the recent data about the structure and evolution of the Sakar unit. Probably the most important recent finding was the demonstration of the lack of a structural break between …

Trilobites From The Çal Tepe Formation (Cambrian), Near Seydişehir, Central Taurides, Southwestern Turkey, William T. Dean
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The type section of the Çal Tepe Formation, near Seydişehir, is reviewed. The basal dolomite member is unfossiliferous, but the succeeding black limestone member (24 m), light-grey limestone member (10.15 m), and red nodular limestone member (46.7 m) are subdivided into thirty-seven numbered, often fossiliferous beds. Trilobites from the black limestone member, late Early Cambrian, exhibit affinities with Morocco, Spain and northwestern Europe; they include one new genus and species (Pamphyliaspis nigra) and three other new species (Condylopyge matutina, Alueva venulosa, Antatlasia scabra). The lower light-grey limestone member contains Acadoparadoxides (Acadoparadoxides) mureroensis, basal Middle Cambrian index species in Spain, with …

Karst In Turkish Thrace: Compatibility Between Geological History And Karst Type, Mehmet Ekmekçi̇
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Geographically, Thrace is a region located in southeastern Europe within the territories of Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey. In Turkish Thrace, karst occurs extensively in Eocene limestones, although some limited karst occurs in marble of the metamorphic series of Palaeozoic age. The karstification base is shallow to very shallow and most of the dolines and poljes have been captured by surface streams. Subsurface drainage has been changed to surface drainage in most parts of the region. Caves and cave relicts are concentrated mainly at three different altitudes, and almost all caves are horizontal or sub-horizontal. With these characteristics, Turkish Thrace hosts …

Shape And Size Characteristics Of Bedload Transported During Winter Storm Events In The Cwm Treweryn Stream, Brecon Beacons, South Wales, Tuncer Demi̇r, R. P. D. Walsh
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Bedload transport in the Cwm Treweryn stream, a tributary of the Usk in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales, was investigated during a wet winter period in early 1995 using basket-type bedload traps and the tracing of painted clasts. The Cwm Treweryn is a typical mountain stream of the region with its gravel-bedload, flashy regime, high gradient and pool-riffle sequences. In particular, the study explored - for a range of categories of clast size - the nature of any influence of clast shape on bedload movement. Competent flows ranging from 2.5 to 19.5 m^3 s^{-1} (the latter close to bankfull flow) …

Diffusion and sorption of heavy-metal ions (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) through an Ankara clay liner were studied experimentally. The Ankara clay consists of calcite, quartz, smectite and illite, and is a highly plastic inorganic clay with optimum weight water content of 32% and corresponding dry density of 1.413 g/cm3. Under optimum compaction conditions, effective porosity (volumetric water content) and hydraulic conductivity in the material were determined as 0.45 and 1.3 to 2.6x10-9 cm/s, respectively. The Ankara clay adsorbed Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn metals, but desorbed Ca, Mg and …
