Clinopyroxene Compositions Of The Isotropic Gabbros From The Sarıkaraman Ophiolite: New Evidence On Supra-Subduction Zone Type Magma Genesis In Central Anatolia, Kenan M. Yaliniz, M. Cemal Göncüoğlu

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Sarıkaraman Ophiolite is one of the least dismembered ophiolitic units of the allochthonous Central Anatolian Ophiolites, which retains its recognizable pseudostratigraphy. The Sarıkaraman Ophiolite is represented in its lowermost part by isotropic gabbros. Within the isotropic gabbro sequence, clinopyroxenes are observed as small, colorless relicts with a cloudy appearance. In most of the samples, they are completely replaced by a successive generation of green to brown amphiboles. Clinopyroxenes display diopsitic to augitic compositions within the range of En 45 Fs 5 Wo 49 to En 50 Fs 9 Wo 41 . They are Ca-rich and Na-poor (Na 2 O

Field, Petrographic And Geochemical Features Of The Baranadağ Quartz Monzonite Of The Central Anatolian Granitoids, Turkey, Nurdan S. Aydin, A. Piril Önen

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Baranadağ quartz monzonite is one of the granitioid intrusions of the Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex (CACC) which represents the passive continental margin of the Anatolide-Tauride platform. Medium to coarse-grained Baranadağ quartz monzonites typically include mafic microgranular enclaves and K-feldspar megacrysts and are cut by aplitic dykes representing the youngest magmatic activity of the study area. The intrusion is mainly composed of orthoclase, plagioclase, quartz, hornblende, biotite and clinopyroxene. It displays a slightly alkaline character and relatively well-developed calc-alkaline trend. The metaluminous Baranadağ quartz monzonites show comparable field, petrographic and/or geochemical features with those of the H-type (Hybrid) granitoids of …

Biostratigraphic And Environmental Analysis Of The Upper Jurassic- Lower Cretaceous Carbonate Sequence In The Başoba Yayla Area (Trabzon, Ne Turkey), Kemal Tasli, Erol Özer, Cemi̇l Yilmaz

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

In the Başoba Yayla (Trabzon, NE Turkey) area, which is located in the Eastern Pontides northern zone, platform carbonates were deposited during the Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous time in environments varying from intertidal/ supratidal to outer shelf. The carbonate sequence begins with a thick dolomite unit of the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous age. The following unit is rich in benthic foraminifers and pelecypoda shells. The foraminiferal assemblage comprising Vercorsella laurentii/camposaurii and Pseudolituonella gavonensis indicates a Late Hauterivian to Early Aptian age for this unit. The Late Aptian-Albian facies is characterized by bioclastic wackestones containing benthic foraminifers typical of outer platform …

Mafic Microgranular Enclaves In The Kozak Granodiorite, Western Anatolia, Cüneyt Akal, Cahi̇t Helvaci Jan 1999

Mafic Microgranular Enclaves In The Kozak Granodiorite, Western Anatolia, Cüneyt Akal, Cahi̇t Helvaci

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Enclaves which are relicts of initial basic magma give important information on the origin and evolution of granitic magmas. The mafic microgranular enclaves from the l-type Kozak pluton are less than 1 m that are located at the margin of pluton and mostly less than 15 cm and are generally in sharp contact with the surrounding granodiorite. In some cases, several enclaves may occur close to each other, but they are not closely clustered to form swarms. Most of the enclaves are ellipsoidal in shape. The largest enclaves are less ellipsoidal with curved boundaries. The mafic microgranular enclaves contain same …

Rock-Forming Nannofossils In Uppermost Jurassic-Lowercretaceous Rock Units Of Northwest Anatolia: Nannoconusand Its Resived Taxonomy, Sevi̇nç Özkan Altiner

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Nannoconids have been recorded in a rock-forming quantity in the uppermost Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous rock units in Northwest Anatolia, Turkey. Samples were collected from seventeen stratigraphic sections spanning the calciturbidities of the Yosunlukbayiri Formation and pelagic micrites of the Sogukçam Limestone. Because of rareness and difficulties for extracting of calcareous nannofossil species particularly zone markers in these type lithologies, nannoconids have particular attention in terms of biostratigraphy. Twenty nine species of nannoconids were recorded in the studied samples. Their taxonomy were revised and their stratigraphic ranges were given. The classification of genus Nannoconusis based on the gross morphology of the test, …

Deformation Of Stibnites And Pyrites In The Madsan Antimony Deposit (Niğde, Turkey): Implications For Pressure-Temperatureconditions Of Local Deformation, İlkay Kuşcu, Ayhan Erler

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Madsan antimony deposit at the southeastern part of the Niğde province (south-central Turkey) includes a series of epithermal veins hosted by marbles and gneisses. The veins have a simple mineralogy of quartz, calcite, stibnite and pyrite as major constituents, and cinnabar occurs in trace amounts. The deposit experienced a progressive deformation evidenced by a set of textures developed especially in stibnite and pyrite. These are pressure lamellae and annealing as the main textures, and curvature, off-set of pressure lamellae and fracture filling as the textures of minor importance. These were developed in three successive deformation phases. Pressure lamellae represent …

Geology Of The Dereiçi (Şavsat, Artvin) Cu-Pb-Zn Deposits, Mesut Soylu, Ayhan Erler

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The geological relationships between the rock units in the Dereiçi/Şavsat (Artvin) region and vein-type Cu-Pb-Zn deposits were presented in this paper. The study area comprises the Upper Cretaceous intermediate volcanic rocks and sedimentary rocks, with Post-Eocene dykes of andesitic and diabasic composition. The mineral deposits are classified as (1) Sphalerite-Galena-Chalcopyrite-Pyrite veins (Talatin Madeni, Binektasi and Fikrinin Madeni), (2) milky quartz-Chalcopyrite-Sphalerite-Galena-Pyrite veins and (3) Chalcopyrite-Pyrite veins. The general paragenetic sequence of the mineralizations is observed as quartz I-pyrite-chalcopyrite-sphalerite-galena-quartz II-chalcocite-covellite. The wall rocks are subjected to silicification, sericitic alteration, chloritization and carbonatization.

Along-Strike Discontinuity Of Active Normal Faults And Its Influence On Quaternary Travertine Deposition; Examples From Western Turkey, Zi̇yadi̇n Çakir Jan 1999

Along-Strike Discontinuity Of Active Normal Faults And Its Influence On Quaternary Travertine Deposition; Examples From Western Turkey, Zi̇yadi̇n Çakir

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Detail mapping of active fault zones bounding four travertine masses in the Gediz and Menderes grabens of western Turkey revealed that they are divided into geometric fault segments up to 13 km long. Fissures, supplying the carbonate-rich waters that give rise to the travertines are preferentially developed at the ends of the fault segments or in extensional step-over zones where the offset between the fault strands is about 1 km or more. The deposition of travertines in such structural settings is probably a consequence of the network of fissures supplying the carbonate-rich waters being highly interconnected where extensional strains were …

Determination Of Patent Blue V And Carmoisine In Gelatine Desserts By Derivative Spectrophotometry, Yüksel Özdemi̇r, Ayşe Arzu Akkan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A first-derivative spectrophotometric method was developed for quantitative determination of two synthetic organic dyes, Carmoisine and Patent Blue V, which are under governmental regulations all over the world because of their toxicity and carcinogenity. In this study, Carmoisine and Patent Blue V were simultaneously determined in their binary mixtures by first-derivative spectrophotometry. The method was applied to different gelatine desserts. The first-derivative derivative method did not eliminate turbid background in the samples. A simple background correction procedure involving a C_{18}-cartridge sample preparation step was developed for determination of dyes in gelatine dessert by first-derivative spectrophotometry. The C_{18}-cartridge sample preparation step …

Reaction Mechanism And Kinetics Of Aqueous Solutions Of Primary And Secondary Alkanolamines And Carbon Dioxide, Olgac Bavbek, Erdoğan Alper Jan 1999

Reaction Mechanism And Kinetics Of Aqueous Solutions Of Primary And Secondary Alkanolamines And Carbon Dioxide, Olgac Bavbek, Erdoğan Alper

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The mechanism and kinetics of the reaction between aqueous solutions of CO_2 and the alkanolamines 1-amino-2-propanol, 3-amino-1-propanol,2-methyl aminoethanol and 2-ethyl aminoethanol were investigated using a stopped flow technique. It was found that the reaction orders according to power law kinetics were between 1.1 and 2.0, depending on the alkanolamine and the concentration ranges investigated. This fractional order was therefore considered to be further evidence that carbamate formation takes place according to a zwitterion mechanism rather than a one-step reaction. The kinetic rate parameters for these alkanolamines were evaluated from experimental data at 303 K according to this mechanism.

A Modified Potentiometric Method For The Estimation Of Phenol In Aqueous Systems, Farhat Huma, Muhammad Jaffar, Khalid Masud Jan 1999

A Modified Potentiometric Method For The Estimation Of Phenol In Aqueous Systems, Farhat Huma, Muhammad Jaffar, Khalid Masud

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A modified potentiometric titration is proposed for the estimation of phenol in aqueous systems. The method is evolved on the basis of a critical dependence of pH on log V rather than simple V, as used in conventional potentiometric titrations. The method incorporates titrants in a concentration range several orders of magnitude greater than that of phenol in the aqueous phase. Derivative potentiometric curves so obtained provide a clear exposition of the equivalence point and the overall error is found to be between \pm 1.0 and 1.5%. The range of phenol concentration investigated was from 10^{-2} to 10^{-3} M. and …

Normal Subgroups And Elements Of H^{'}(\Lambda_Q), İsmai̇l Naci̇ Cangül Jan 1999

Normal Subgroups And Elements Of H^{'}(\Lambda_Q), İsmai̇l Naci̇ Cangül

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, we consider the normal subgroups of H^{'}(\lambda_q), where H(\lambda_q) denotes the Hecke groups. After recalling some results from [2], particularly on the group structure and on the relations with the power subgroups of H(\lambda_q), the even subgroup H_e(\lambda_q) of H(\lambda_q) is discussed. It is shown that H^{'}(\lambda_q) is a normal subgroup of H_e(\lambda_q) with index q. For this reason each subgroup of H^{'}(\lambda_q) consists of only even elements. H^{''}(\lambda_q) is also considered and it is concluded that it is the normal subgroup of H^{'}(\lambda_q) generated by all commutators of the elements of H^{'}(\lambda_q). Using the Kurosh subgroup …

Some Results On Space-Like Line Congruences And Their Space-Like Parameter Ruled Surface, E. Özyilmaz

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Using dual vectors, space-like ruled surfaces was introduced in [2]. In this paper, we define space-like line congruence and their space-like parameter ruled surfaces {\mathbf R_{11}(t)} and {\mathbf R_{21}(t)} of R_1^3. Then, by choosing space-like parameter ruled surfaces as space-like principle ruled surfaces, we obtain some relations among the magnitudes of space-like ruled surfaces {\mathbf R_1(t)}, {\mathbf R_{11}(t)}.

Left Adjoint Of Pullback Cat^1 -Groups, Murat Alp

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In [1] we define the pullback Cat^1-groups and showed that the category of pullback Cat^1-groups is equivalent to the category of pullback crossed modules. In this paper we proved that the pullback Cat^1-group has a left adjoint which is the induced Cat^1-group. We also give the left adjoint construction.

Univalent Harmonic Mappings Onto Half Planes, Meti̇n Öztürk

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We consider the class S_H(D,\Omega ) of complex functions f which are univalent, harmonic, sense preserving on a simple connected domain D\neq {\Bbb C} \ containing the origin, satisfy f(0)=a_0, f_{\bar z}(0)=0a,\ a\in {\Bbb R}\}. In particularly, we describe the closure \overline{S_H(D,\Omega )} of S_H(D,\Omega ) and characterize its extreme points, as well as sharp estimates for coefficients and distortion theorems.

Cycloidal Normal Subgroups Of Hecke Groups Of Finite Index, İsmai̇l Naci̇ Cangül, Osman Bi̇zi̇m

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Cycloidal normal subgroups, that is, subgroups with only one cusp, of finite index of Hecke groups, which have been introduced by E. Hecke, and can be thought of as some kind of generalisation of the well-known modular group, are studied. It is shown that they correspond to cyclic quotients of Hecke groups and therefore have non-compact associated Riemann surfaces with a cusp. Finally, their total number have been formulated.

Generalized Solutions Of A Class Of Linear And Quasi-Linear Degenerated Hyperbolic Equations, Rossitza Semerdjieva Jan 1999

Generalized Solutions Of A Class Of Linear And Quasi-Linear Degenerated Hyperbolic Equations, Rossitza Semerdjieva

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The equation $L(u):=k(y)u_{xx}-\partial_y(\ell(y)u_y)+r(x,y)u=f(x,y,u),$ where $k(y)>0, \ell(y)>0$ for $y>0,k(0)=\ell(0)=0$ and $lim_{y\rightarrow 0}k(y)/\ell(y)$ exists, is strictly hyperbolic for $y>0$ and its order degenerates on the line $y=0$. We consider the boundary value problem $Lu=f(x,y,u)$ in $G, u\mid_{AC}=0$, where $G$ is a simply connected domain in $R^2$ with piecewise smooth boundary $\partial G=AB\cup AC\cup BC; AB=\{(x,0): 0\leq x\leq 1\}, AC : x=F(y) =\int_0^y(k(t)/\ell (t))^{1/2}dt$ and $BC: x=1-F(y)$ are characteristic curves. The existence and uniqueness of a generalized solution to this problem are proved in the linear case (where $f=f(x,y));$ the nonlinear case is treated by using the Schauder Fixed …

Alternative Polynomial And Holomorphic Dunford-Pettis Properties, Walden Freedman

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Alternatives to the Polynomial Dunford-Pettis property and the Holomorphic Dunford-Pettis property, called the PDP1 and HDP1 properties, respectively, are introduced. These are shown to be equivalent to the DP1 property, an alternative Dunford-Pettis property previously introduced by the author, thus mirroring the equivalence of the three original properties.
