Environmental evolution of the Gulf of Carpentaria region, the world's largest tropical epicontinental seaway, through the last glacial cycle has been determined from a series of six sediment cores. These cores form the focus of a multi-disciplinary study to elucidate sea level, climate and environmental change in the region. The sedimentary record reveals a series of facies including open shallow marine, marginal marine, estuarine, lacustrine and subaerial exposure, throughout the extent of the basin during this period. Person-Level And Household-Level Regression Estimation In Household Surveys, David Steel, Robert Clark

A common class of survey designs involves selecting all people within selected households. Generalized regressionestimators can be calculated at either the person or household level. Implementing the estimator at the household level has the convenience of equal estimation weights for people within households. In this article the two approaches are compared theoretically and empirically for the case of simple random sampling of households and selection of all persons in each selected household. We find that the household level approach is theoretically more efficient in large samples and any empirical inefficiency in small samples is limited.

Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 11 was possibly the longest (∼423,000–362,000 yr ago) and warmest interglacial of the entire Quaternary Period. This resulted from a special arrangement of Earth's orbital parameters-similar to the present interglacial (MIS 1)-suggesting that MIS 11 provides an analogue for future natural climate forcing and sea levels. Although precise documentation of MIS 11 sea level history is, therefore, crucial – especially considering additional impetus from anthropogenic warming – the maximum MIS 11 sea level remains highly contentious. Subjective quality measures based on the human visual system for images do not agree well with well-known metrics such as mean squared error and peak signal-to-noise ratio. Recently, the structural similarity measure (SSIM) has received acclaim owing to its ability to produce results on a par with the human visual system. However, experimental results indicate that noise and blur seriously degrade the performance of the SSIM metric. Furthermore, despite the SSIM's popularity, it does not provide adequate insight into how it handles the 'structural similarity' of images.
