The Effects Of Automated Grading On Computer Science Courses At The University Of New Orleans, Jerod F A Dunbar
The Effects Of Automated Grading On Computer Science Courses At The University Of New Orleans, Jerod F A Dunbar
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This is a study of the impacts of the incorporation, into certain points of the Computer Science degree program at the University of New Orleans, of Course Management software with an Autograding component. The software in question, developed at Carnegie Mellon University, is called “Autolab.” We begin by dissecting Autolab in order to gain an understanding of its inner workings. We can then take out understanding of its functionality and apply that to an examination of fundamental changes to courses in the time since they incorporated the software. With that, we then compare Drop, Failure, Withdrawal rate data from before …
Feasible Form Parameter Design Of Complex Ship Hull Form Geometry, Thomas L. Mcculloch
Feasible Form Parameter Design Of Complex Ship Hull Form Geometry, Thomas L. Mcculloch
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This thesis introduces a new methodology for robust form parameter design of complex hull form geometry via constraint programming, automatic differentiation, interval arithmetic, and truncated hierarchical B- splines. To date, there has been no clearly stated methodology for assuring consistency of general (equality and inequality) constraints across an entire geometric form parameter ship hull design space. In contrast, the method to be given here can be used to produce guaranteed narrowing of the design space, such that infeasible portions are eliminated. Furthermore, we can guarantee that any set of form parameters generated by our method will be self consistent. It …
A Jython-Based Restful Web Service Api For Python Code Reflection, John A. Nielson
A Jython-Based Restful Web Service Api For Python Code Reflection, John A. Nielson
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Often times groups of domain experts, such as scientists and engineers, will develop their own software modules for specialized computational tasks. When these users determine there is a need to integrate the data and computations used in their specialized components with an enterprise data management system, interoperability between the enterprise system and the specialized components rather than re-implementation allows for faster implementation and more flexible change management by shifting the onus of changes to the scientific components to the subject matter experts rather than the enterprise information technology team. The Jython-based RESTful web service API was developed to leverage code …
Underwater Acoustic Signal Analysis Toolkit, Kirk Bienvenu Jr
Underwater Acoustic Signal Analysis Toolkit, Kirk Bienvenu Jr
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This project started early in the summer of 2016 when it became evident there was a need for an effective and efficient signal analysis toolkit for the Littoral Acoustic Demonstration Center Gulf Ecological Monitoring and Modeling (LADC-GEMM) Research Consortium. LADC-GEMM collected underwater acoustic data in the northern Gulf of Mexico during the summer of 2015 using Environmental Acoustic Recording Systems (EARS) buoys. Much of the visualization of data was handled through short scripts and executed through terminal commands, each time requiring the data to be loaded into memory and parameters to be fed through arguments. The vision was to develop …
Forensic Analysis Of Whatsapp On Android Smartphones, Neha S. Thakur
Forensic Analysis Of Whatsapp On Android Smartphones, Neha S. Thakur
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Android forensics has evolved over time offering significant opportunities and exciting challenges. On one hand, being an open source platform Android is giving developers the freedom to contribute to the rapid growth of the Android market whereas on the other hand Android users may not be aware of the security and privacy implications of installing these applications on their phones. Users may assume that a password-locked device protects their personal information, but applications may retain private information on devices, in ways that users might not anticipate. In this thesis we will be concentrating on one such application called 'WhatsApp', a …
Oyster Sustainability Modeling As A Public Resource, Nathan A. Cooper
Oyster Sustainability Modeling As A Public Resource, Nathan A. Cooper
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
A simulation algorithm based on biological references points proposed by Powell and Klink (2007) is implemented for predicting the total allowable catch of eastern oysters (Crassostrea virginica) from Louisiana’s coast. The model accepts initial per-square-meter shell mass and oyster size distributions as input. Fishing effort is provided as fractions removed of each resource for each month of the season. The model outputs the expected remaining shell mass and harvests of sack and seed oysters after discrete fishing months. Oyster mortality credits the shell budget, while fishing fractions debit oyster and shell resources. Surviving oysters grow larger along a …
Reaper – Toward Automating Mobile Cloud Communication, Daniel R. Ward
Reaper – Toward Automating Mobile Cloud Communication, Daniel R. Ward
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Mobile devices connected to cloud based services are becoming a mainstream method of delivery up-to-date and context aware information to users. Connecting mobile applications to cloud service require significant developer effort. Yet this communication code usually follows certain patterns, varying accordingly to the specific type of data sent and received from the server. By analyzing the causes of theses variations, we can create a system that can automate the code creation for communication from a mobile device to a cloud server. To automate code creation, a general pattern must extracted. This general solution can then be applied to any database …
A Framework To Annotate The Uncertainty For Geospatial Data, Zhao Yang
A Framework To Annotate The Uncertainty For Geospatial Data, Zhao Yang
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
We have developed a new approach to annotate the uncertainty information of geospatial data. This framework is composed of a geospatial platform and the data with uncertainty. The framework supports geospatial sources such as Geography Markup Language (GML) with uncertainty information. The purpose of this framework is to integrate the uncertainty information of data from the application users and thereby ease the development of processing uncertainty information of geospatial data. Having well organized data and using this framework, the end-users can store the uncertainty information on the current geospatial data structure. For example, a GIS user can share the error …
A Software Framework For Augmentative And Alternative Communication, Adam Loup
A Software Framework For Augmentative And Alternative Communication, Adam Loup
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
By combining context awareness and analytical based relevance computing software, the proposed Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) framework aims provide a foundation to create communication systems to dramatically increase the words available to AAC users. The framework will allow the lexicon available to the user to be dynamically updated by varying sources and to promote words based on contextual relevance. This level of customization enables the development of highly customizable AAC devices that evolve with use to become more personal while also broadening the expressiveness of the user. In order to maximize the efficient creation of conversation for AAC users, …
