Parametric And Reliability Estimation Of The Kumaraswamy Generalized Distribution Based On Record Values, Mohd. Arshad, Qazi J. Azhad Jan 2022

Parametric And Reliability Estimation Of The Kumaraswamy Generalized Distribution Based On Record Values, Mohd. Arshad, Qazi J. Azhad

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

A general family of distributions, namely Kumaraswamy generalized family of (Kw-G) distribution, is considered for estimation of the unknown parameters and reliability function based on record data from Kw-G distribution. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) are derived for unknown parameters and reliability function, along with its confidence intervals. A Bayesian study is carried out under symmetric and asymmetric loss functions in order to find the Bayes estimators for unknown parameters and reliability function. Future record values are predicted using Bayesian approach and non Bayesian approach, based on numerical examples and a monte carlo simulation.

Comparison Of Scale Identification Methods In Mixture Irt Models, Youn-Jeng Choi, Allan S. Cohen Jun 2020

Comparison Of Scale Identification Methods In Mixture Irt Models, Youn-Jeng Choi, Allan S. Cohen

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The effects of three scale identification constraints in mixture IRT models were studied. A simulation study found no constraint effect on the mixture Rasch and mixture 2PL models, but the item anchoring constraint was the only one that worked well on selecting correct model with the mixture 3PL model.

A Simulation Study On Increasing Capture Periods In Bayesian Closed Population Capture-Recapture Models With Heterogeneity, Ross M. Gosky, Joel Sanqui Apr 2020

A Simulation Study On Increasing Capture Periods In Bayesian Closed Population Capture-Recapture Models With Heterogeneity, Ross M. Gosky, Joel Sanqui

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Capture-Recapture models are useful in estimating unknown population sizes. A common modeling challenge for closed population models involves modeling unequal animal catchability in each capture period, referred to as animal heterogeneity. Inference about population size N is dependent on the assumed distribution of animal capture probabilities in the population, and that different models can fit a data set equally well but provide contradictory inferences about N. Three common Bayesian Capture-Recapture heterogeneity models are studied with simulated data to study the prevalence of contradictory inferences is in different population sizes with relatively low capture probabilities, specifically at different numbers of …

Bayesian Approximation Techniques For Scale Parameter Of Laplace Distribution, Uzma Jan, S. P. Ahmad Mar 2019

Bayesian Approximation Techniques For Scale Parameter Of Laplace Distribution, Uzma Jan, S. P. Ahmad

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The Bayesian estimation of the scale parameter of a Laplace Distribution is obtained using two approximation techniques, like Normal approximation and Tierney and Kadane (T-K) approximation, under different informative priors.

E-Bayesian Estimation Of The Parameter Of The Logarithmic Series Distribution, Parviz Nasiri, Hassan Esfandyarifar Nov 2016

E-Bayesian Estimation Of The Parameter Of The Logarithmic Series Distribution, Parviz Nasiri, Hassan Esfandyarifar

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

E-Bayesian estimation is introduced to estimate the parameter of logarithmic series distribution. In addition, E-Bayesian, Bayesian and maximum likelihood estimation with through applying mean squared error.

Estimating The Parameter Of Exponential Distribution Under Type Ii Censoring From Fuzzy Data, Iman Makhdoom, Parviz Nasiri, Abbas Pak Nov 2016

Estimating The Parameter Of Exponential Distribution Under Type Ii Censoring From Fuzzy Data, Iman Makhdoom, Parviz Nasiri, Abbas Pak

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The problem of estimating the parameter of Exponential distribution on the basis of type II censoring scheme is considered when the available data are in the form of fuzzy numbers. The Bayes estimate of the unknown parameter is obtained by using the approximation forms of Lindley (1980) and Tierney and Kadane (1986) under the assumption of gamma prior. The highest posterior density (HPD) estimate of the parameter of interest is found. A Monte Carlo simulation is used to compare the performances of the different methods. A real data set is investigated to illustrate the applicability of …

Parameter Estimation With Mixture Item Response Theory Models: A Monte Carlo Comparison Of Maximum Likelihood And Bayesian Methods, W. Holmes Finch, Brian F. French May 2012

Parameter Estimation With Mixture Item Response Theory Models: A Monte Carlo Comparison Of Maximum Likelihood And Bayesian Methods, W. Holmes Finch, Brian F. French

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The Mixture Item Response Theory (MixIRT) can be used to identify latent classes of examinees in data as well as to estimate item parameters such as difficulty and discrimination for each of the groups. Parameter estimation via maximum likelihood (MLE) and Bayesian estimation based on the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) are compared for classification accuracy and parameter estimation bias for difficulty and discrimination. Standard error magnitude and coverage rates were compared across number of items, number of latent groups, group size ratio, total sample size and underlying item response model. Results show that MCMC provides more accurate group membership …

Statistical Inferences For Lomax Distribution Based On Record Values (Bayesian And Classical), Parviz Nasiri, Saman Hosseini May 2012

Statistical Inferences For Lomax Distribution Based On Record Values (Bayesian And Classical), Parviz Nasiri, Saman Hosseini

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

A maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) based on records is obtained and a proper prior distribution to attain a Bayes estimation (both informative and non-informative) based on records for quadratic loss and squared error loss functions is also calculated. The study considers the shortest confidence interval and Highest Posterior Distribution confidence interval based on records, and using Mean Square Error MSE criteria for point estimation and length criteria for interval estimation, their appropriateness to each other is examined.

Bayesian Threshold Moving Average Models, Mahmoud M. Smadi, M. T. Alodat May 2011

Bayesian Threshold Moving Average Models, Mahmoud M. Smadi, M. T. Alodat

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

A Bayesian approach in threshold moving average model for time series with two regimes is provided. The posterior distribution of the delay and threshold parameters are used to examine and investigate the intrinsic characteristics of this nonlinear time series model. The proposed approach is applied to both simulated data and a real data set obtained from a chemical system. Key words: Threshold time series, moving average model, Bayesian

Estimations On The Generalized Exponential Distribution Using Grouped Data, Hassan Pazira, Parviz Nasiri May 2010

Estimations On The Generalized Exponential Distribution Using Grouped Data, Hassan Pazira, Parviz Nasiri

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Classical and Bayesian estimators are obtained for the shape parameter of the Generalized-Exponential distribution under grouped data. In Bayesian estimation, three types of loss functions are considered: the Squared Error loss function which is classified as a symmetric function, the LINEX and Precautionary loss functions which are asymmetric. These estimators are compared with the corresponding estimators derived from un-grouped data empirically using Monte-Carlo simulation.
