The Dutch Cadastre is publishing its geospatial data assets as Linked Open Data through the Kadaster Data Platform (KDP). The KDP supports the following three Linked Data browsing paradigms: (1) graph navigation, (2) hierarchical browsing, and (3) faceted browsing. Graph navigation uses the graph-shape of the RDF datamodel, to display concepts and instances as nodes, and properties between them as edges between those nodes. Graph navigation works well for explorative browsing. For graph navigation the KDP uses LODView (http://lodview.it), an existing OSS. This is a static version of the visuals of a presentation I gave to the ALA Subject on linked open subject authority data. I described how linked data from the Library of Congress (http://id.loc.gov/) can be used to improve subject cataloging and browsing. I describe how the data is structured (including a brief overview of RDF and SKOS), and explain how I have used it to improve The Online Books Page (http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/) and the Penn Libraries' catalog. Few information retrieval systems are designed with children’s special needs and capabilities in mind. We need to learn more about children’s information-seeking behavior in order to provide them with information-based tools which support exploratory learning. This dissertation examines children’s search behavior on a hypertext-based automated library catalog designed for elementary school children. The focus of this research is on the effect of domain knowledge on children’s search performance, search behavior, and learning as they look for science books on this system.
