A Wellhead Protection Study Of A Small Agricultural Community In Glaciated Terrain, As A Model For Wellhead Protection Efforts By Similar Communities, Cole Kevan Lovett
A Wellhead Protection Study Of A Small Agricultural Community In Glaciated Terrain, As A Model For Wellhead Protection Efforts By Similar Communities, Cole Kevan Lovett
Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to create a wellhead protection approach for a small town in a rural watershed that could be used by other, similar, communities.
Lacustrine clay and melt-out till interbedded in outwash sands and fine gravel, separate an unconfined aquifer from a deeper aquifer. The lower aquifer was determined to be semiconfined due to (a) high vertical conductivity, (b) lack of continuity in the clay/till, (c) absence of significant seasonal water level changes, and (d) tritium levels above 1-2 tritium units in deep wells.
Tritium level falls and water age rises along flowpaths. A low-high-low pattern …

Impact Of Erosion, Mass Wasting, And Sedimentation On Human Activities In The Río Grande Basin, Jujuy Province, Argentina, Waldo Chayle, William J. Wayne
Impact Of Erosion, Mass Wasting, And Sedimentation On Human Activities In The Río Grande Basin, Jujuy Province, Argentina, Waldo Chayle, William J. Wayne
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
Nearly all dry mountainous regions are affected by severe erosion, floods, and debris flows during times of intense precipitation. The lithology, geologic structure, and climate in Jujuy Province, Argentina combine to place at serious risk the people who live along the Río Grande, the major river that drains the east side of the Cordillera Oriental and the west side of the Sierras Subandinas. Nearly all precipitation falls during summer (January–March) with little during the remainder of the year; most of the basin is semiarid to arid, although the southern end has a humid subtropical climate. Relief is great, as much …

A Three-Dimensional Hydrodynamic-Eutrophication Model (Hem-3d) : Description Of Water Quality And Sediment Process Submodels, Kyeong Park, Albert Y. Kuo, Jian Shen, John M. Hamrick
Reports
Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) has been developing a general purpose three-dimensional hydrodynamic and sediment transport model, Environmental Fluid Dynamics Computer Code (EFDC; Hamrick 1992). The real-time model simulates density and topographically-induced circulation as well as tidal and wind-driven flows, and spatial and temporal distributions of salinity, temperature and sediment concentration. The model also is capable of handling the wetting and drying of shallow area, hydraulic control structures, vegetation resistance for wetlands and Lagrangian particle tracking. The information of physical transport processes, both advective and diffusive, simulated by the hydrodynamic model can be used to account for the transport …
Self-Study Report 1995
Conservation and Survey Division
This Self-Study Report for the Conservation and Survey Division (CSD) is a profile of the unit at this point in time. It is presented in three major sections: (1) Background; (2) Current Programs and Achievements; and (3) A Vision of the Future. All sections draw heavily upon documents, staff input, and committee activities going on within the division.

Miocene Paleogeography Of West-Central California--Offset Along The San Gregorio-Hosgri Fault Zone, Clarence Hall Jr, Mark Sutherland, Raymond Ingersoll
Mark Sutherland
The major faults that occur in the region are described and the amount of lateral offset used to construct palinspastic maps is given. The longest, most controversial, and most critical fault relative to the palinspastic maps is the San Gregorio-San Simeon-Hosgri fault, which is discussed in detail
