Simulation Of The Sedimentology Of Sediment Detention Basins, A. J. Ward, C. T. Haan, B. J. Barfield
KWRRI Research Reports
Sediment detention basins are a widely used means of controlling downstream sediment pollution resulting from stripmining and construction activities. A mathematical model for describing the sedimentation characteristics of detention basins has been developed. This model requires as inputs the inflow hydrograph, inflow sediment graph, sediment particle size distribution, detention basin stage-area relationship and detention basin stage-discharge relationship. Based on this information the model routes the water and sediment through the basin. In this routing process the outflow sediment concentration graph, the pattern of sediment deposition in the basin and the sediment trapping efficiency are estimated. Comparison of predicted results with …
The Petrology And Stratigraphy Of The Portland Hills Silt, Rodney Thomas Lentz
The Petrology And Stratigraphy Of The Portland Hills Silt, Rodney Thomas Lentz
Dissertations and Theses
Topics in geology, which inevitably excite professional discussion and even tempered debate, often present challenging targets for the exploratory jabs of Master's degree candidates. The Portland Hills Silt and the controversy concerning its genesis provides just such an object.
Although the physical descriptions of the silt are generally in agreement, they remain somewhat generalized and, at present, no single definition is generally accepted. Moreover, incongruities concerning structural and textural details--notably, the presence of minor stratification and/or scattered pebbles in the silt--have resulted in considerable disagreement regarding its mode of origin.
Water Resources Data For Nebraska Water Year 1976
Water Resources Data For Nebraska Water Year 1976
Conservation and Survey Division
Water resources data for the 1976 water year for Nebraska consist of records of stage, discharge, and water quality of streams; stage and contents of lakes and reservoirs; and water levels and water quality in wells and springs. This report contains discharge records for 146 gaging stations; stage and contents for 9 lakes and reservoirs; water quality for 40 gaging stations, 18 ungaged stations, 27 partial-record flow stations, and 96 wells; and water levels for 66 observation wells. Also included are 114 crest-stage partial-record stations and 12 low-flow partialrecord stations. Additional water data were collected at various sites, not part …

Nebraska Mineral Operations Review, 1976, Raymond R. Burchett, Duane A. Eversoll
Conservation and Survey Division
During 1976, there were active in Nebraska 41 limestone quarries; 592 sand, gravel and silt or siltstone pits; 8 clay or shale pits; 24 sandstone pits; and 1 peat pit. These 666 mining operations disturbed 820 acres and restored 78 acres during the year.
Task 1 Evaluation On The Thickness Of The Mobile Surface Layer, Dam Neck, Virginia : Final Report To Malcolm Pirnie Engineers, Inc., John D. Boon
Reports
Our objective under Task 1 was to make an assessment of the sedimentary features (sediment texture and structures) present in cores (obtained by vibratory method) at the project site in order to express an opinion as to the thickness of the "surface mobile sand layer". The mobile sand layer is that surficial sediment layer undergoing cut and fill episodes due to present day wave and current induced sediment transport. In addition, this report contains information extracted from existing literature on recent (1859 to 1968) shoreline behavior in the vicinity of the proposed outfall and on some aspects of surface sediment …
A Sedimentological Study Of Modern And Ancient Lacustrine Environments At Michael Bay, Lake Huron, Lindsay D. Nakashima
A Sedimentological Study Of Modern And Ancient Lacustrine Environments At Michael Bay, Lake Huron, Lindsay D. Nakashima
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Modern and ancient environments associated with Lakes Algoma and Huron were studied according to attributes of stratigraphy, sediment texture, parameters, sediment size distribution, bedforms, and primary sedimentary structures. Results from a computation of wave refraction diagrams and from an examination of the wave climate characteristics indicate that the modern embayment is low energy.
A sediment texture comparison between modern and ancient environments indicates that higher energy pervailed in the ancient environment relative to the present day environment. The cobble and gravel sediments as well as an extensive belt of foredunes preserved in the ancient environment are evidence of this high …
