Calculating Elastic Properties Of Confined Simple Fluids, Christopher D. Dobrzanski May 2020

Calculating Elastic Properties Of Confined Simple Fluids, Christopher D. Dobrzanski

Dissertations

Confinement in nanoporous materials is known to affect many properties of the fluids confined within their pores. The elastic properties are no exception. This dissertation begins with an overview of the relevant literature on ways of obtaining elastic properties of confined fluids. It outlines some fundamental gaps in our understanding. The chapters following address some of these gaps in understanding elastic properties of the confined fluid, in particular, how the shape of the confining pore matters, how supercriticality effects the properties, how an equation of state designed for confined fluids can be used to calculate elastic properties, and if an …

Kinetics Of Radiation-Stimulated Processes On The Surface Of Oxide Materials, T. Tusseyev Mar 2020

Kinetics Of Radiation-Stimulated Processes On The Surface Of Oxide Materials, T. Tusseyev

Eurasian Journal of Physics and Functional Materials

The analysis of the experimental data shows that the processes of gas adsorption and radiation defects accumulation in metal oxides correlate with each other and most likely can be described in terms of equivalent kinetic equations. Given this circumstance, the kinetics of accumulation of radiation defects in oxides of di erent metals was analyzed. The obtained equations were used to analyze: a) the kinetics of accumulation of radiation defects in di erent oxide compounds; b) the data on the destruction of radiationinduced defects in the atmosphere of di erent gases, and on the kinetics of absorption by oxides of oxygen, …

Gas Adsorption In Carbon Nanohorns: Equilibrium And Kinetics, Justin Matthew Petucci Jan 2020

Gas Adsorption In Carbon Nanohorns: Equilibrium And Kinetics, Justin Matthew Petucci

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A study of gas adsorption has been carried out with the focus of better understanding the relationships between the individual properties of the adsorbent/adsorbate (e.g. material structure, interactions, gas size and shape, etc.) and the overall adsorptive properties of the combined system (e.g. capacity, binding strength, equilibration time, etc.) as a function of thermodynamical variables. This is useful from the perspective of a comprehensive and fundamental understanding as well as for practical applications. The equilibrium regime of adsorption on carbon nanostructure materials (nanohorns, nanotubes, and graphite) is investigated using molecular statics (MS) and grand canonical monte carlo (GCMC) methods for …
