Electrodeposition Of Lanthanum In Deep Eutectic Solvents, Li Wang, You-Jun Fan, Lu Wei, Hai-Xia Liu, Shi-Gang Sun Dec 2015

Electrodeposition Of Lanthanum In Deep Eutectic Solvents, Li Wang, You-Jun Fan, Lu Wei, Hai-Xia Liu, Shi-Gang Sun

Journal of Electrochemistry

With the choline chloride/urea deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as the medium, the olive-like lanthanum particles with uniform shape and size were successfully prepared through a potentiostatic deposition method. The prepared samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). At the same time, the effect of deposition potential, temperature and time on the size and morphology of samples was investigated. The results demonstrated that the optimum conditions for the preparation of olive-like lanthanum particles were as follows: deposition potential of -1.7 V, temperature of 80 oC …

Development And Demonstration Of Critical Components Of Aluminum Based Energy Storage Devices Using The Chloroaluminate Ionic Liquids, Mengqi Zhang May 2015

Development And Demonstration Of Critical Components Of Aluminum Based Energy Storage Devices Using The Chloroaluminate Ionic Liquids, Mengqi Zhang

Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation considers the development of porous carbon materials as the substrates for Al deposition/dissolution in an Al based ionic liquid flow battery (ILFB) and demonstration of an Al based hybrid supercapacitor. The Aluminum chloride/ 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride chloroaluminate ionic liquid is utilized as the electrolyte for these Al based energy storage devices. The ILFB has less capital cost than the all-vanadium redox flow battery because of the inexpensive AlCl3. The feasibility to equip a tank of solid aluminum chloride in an ILFB system aiming to improve energy density is investigated. A critical range of temperature data (50-130 celsius …

Electrodeposition Of Al-Mg Alloys From Acidic Alcl3-Emic-Mgcl2 Room Temperature Ionic Liquids, Rostomali M., P. Abbott Andrew, S. Ryder Karl Apr 2015

Electrodeposition Of Al-Mg Alloys From Acidic Alcl3-Emic-Mgcl2 Room Temperature Ionic Liquids, Rostomali M., P. Abbott Andrew, S. Ryder Karl

Journal of Electrochemistry

Electrodeposition of aluminium-magnesium alloys have been carried out onto platinum and copper cathodes from Lewis acidic aluminium(III) chloride-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid containing magnesium(II) chloride by constant current and constant potential methods at room temperature. Magnesium content in the deposited alloy increases with increasing MgCl2 concentration in the ionic liquid and with increasing cathodic current density. The influences of various experimental conditions on electrodeposition and the morphology of the electrodeposited layers have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX). On increasing the deposition current densities the dense, bright, adherent …
