Spatio-Temporal Multimedia Big Data Analytics Using Deep Neural Networks, Samira Pouyanfar
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
With the proliferation of online services and mobile technologies, the world has stepped into a multimedia big data era, where new opportunities and challenges appear with the high diversity multimedia data together with the huge amount of social data. Nowadays, multimedia data consisting of audio, text, image, and video has grown tremendously. With such an increase in the amount of multimedia data, the main question raised is how one can analyze this high volume and variety of data in an efficient and effective way. A vast amount of research work has been done in the multimedia area, targeting different aspects …

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
Neutrosophic sets and logic are generalizations of fuzzy and intuitionistic fuzzy sets and logic. Neutrosophic sets and logic are gaining significant attention in solving many real life decision making problems that involve uncertainty, impreciseness, vagueness, incompleteness, inconsistent, and indeterminacy. They have been applied in computational intelligence, multiple criteria decision making, image processing, medical diagnoses, etc. This Special Issue presents original research papers that report on state-of-the-art and recent advancements in neutrosophic sets and logic in soft computing, artificial intelligence, big and small data mining, decision making problems, and practical achievements.

Statistical and Data Sciences: Faculty Publications
A growing number of students are completing undergraduate degrees in statistics and entering the workforce as data analysts. In these positions, they are expected to understand how to use databases and other data warehouses, scrape data from Internet sources, program solutions to complex problems in multiple languages, and think algorithmically as well as statistically. These data science topics have not traditionally been a major component of undergraduate programs in statistics. Consequently, a curricular shift is needed to address additional learning outcomes. The goal of this article is to motivate the importance of data science proficiency and to provide examples and …
Characterizing Conflict In Wikipedia, Nathaniel Miller
Characterizing Conflict In Wikipedia, Nathaniel Miller
Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science Honors Projects
Wikipedia serves as the Internet's most widely viewed reference. In order to ensure its success, editors who create and maintain articles must resolve conflicts over appropriate article content. Previous research has measured Wikipedia conflict at two levels: single articles and categories of pages. I observe conflicts within small groups of articles, identifying their frequency, size, and intensity. Additionally, I identify individual conflicts spanning multiple articles and effects of conflict upon users' editing habits. I analyze cross-article conflict in three stages. First, I cluster a group of 1.4 million Wikipedia articles. Next, I find individual user conflicts within each article cluster …
