Synthesis And Characterization Of 4,6-Protected Glucosamine Derivatives And Branched Glycoconjugates, Jonathan Bietsch
Synthesis And Characterization Of 4,6-Protected Glucosamine Derivatives And Branched Glycoconjugates, Jonathan Bietsch
Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations
Low molecular weight gelators (LMWGs) are small molecules that self-assemble in appropriate solvents to form three dimensional networks that immobilize the solvent, creating a supramolecular gel. The self-assembly of LMWGs occurs through non-covalent interactions such as hydrogen bonding, aromatic interactions, donor-acceptor interactions, Van der Waals interactions, hydrophobic forces, halogen bonding, etc. Due to self-assembly occurring through reversible non-covalent interactions, supramolecular gels can undergo a gel to solution transformation. Because of this, these materials can be sensitive to external stimuli such as temperature changes, pH changes, and other stimuli that effect non-covalent interactions. This makes the synthesis of LMWG’s an appealing …

The Development Of Novel Carbohydrate-Based Gelators And Their Applications As Advanced Soft Materials, Joedian Morris
Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations
Low molecular weight gelators (LMWGs) are attractive molecules that have been explored extensively due to their practical applications in many disciplines. These small molecules self-assemble forming solid-like gels via three-dimensional cross-linked networks with the solvent as the key component within the matrix. Carbohydrate-based LMWGs are small molecules that can form solid-like gels in water, organic solvents, and aqueous solutions. They have great potential to be utilized in different applications because carbohydrates are biocompatible and can be made from easily accessible and renewable resources. Designing gelators is still a challenge within the field, even though researchers have developed tools to predict …

Numerical Calculation Of Losses Of Trapped Vortices Under Strong Rf Meissner Current And Dc Superheating Field In Type Ii Superconductors, Walive Pathiranage Manula Randhika Pathirana
Physics Theses & Dissertations
Research on the vortex dynamics and enhancing of superheating field in superconductors has attracted much attention in accelerator physics community to develop next-generation high-performance accelerator cavities. However, the extreme dynamics of curvilinear elastic vortices driven by very strong currents close to the depairing limit or superheating field of a superconductor with a nanostructured surface has not been well understood. We calculated the superheating field Hsh and critical momentum kc characterizing the wavelength of the instability λm of the Meissner state to flux penetration by solving numerically the Ginzburg-Landau equations. A bulk superconductor, superconductor with the inhomogeneous surface disorder …

We report numerical simulations of a trapped elastic vortex driven by a strong ac magnetic field H(t)=Hsinωt parallel to the surface of a superconducting film. The surface resistance and the power dissipated by an oscillating vortex perpendicular to the film surface were calculated as functions of H and ω for different spatial distributions, densities, and strengths of pinning centers, including bulk pinning, surface pinning, and cluster pinning. Our simulations were performed for both the Bardeen-Stephen viscous vortex drag and the Larkin-Ovchinnikov (LO) drag coefficient η(v) decreasing with the vortex velocity v. The local residual surface resistance Ri(H) …
Generation Of Excited Species In A Streamer Discharge, Shirshak K. Dhali
Generation Of Excited Species In A Streamer Discharge, Shirshak K. Dhali
Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
At or near atmospheric pressure, most transient discharges, particularly in molecular gases or gas mixture containing molecular gases, result in a space charge dominated transport called a streamer discharge. The excited species generation in such discharges forms the basis for plasma chemistry in most technological applications. In this paper, we simulate the propagation of streamers in atmospheric pressure N2 to understand the energy partitioning in the formation of various excited species and compare the results to a uniform Townsend discharge. The model is fully two-dimensional with azimuthal symmetry. The results show a significantly larger fraction of the energy goes …
