Enhanced Platinum (Ii) Drug Delivery For Anti-Cancer Therapy, Marek T. Wlodarczyk
Enhanced Platinum (Ii) Drug Delivery For Anti-Cancer Therapy, Marek T. Wlodarczyk
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Over the years, anti-cancer therapies have improved the overall survival rate of patients. Nevertheless, the traditional free drug therapies still suffer from side effects and systemic toxicity, resulting in low drug dosages in the clinic. This often leads to suboptimal drug concentrations reaching cancer cells, contributing to treatment failure and drug resistance. Among available anti-cancer therapies, metallodrugs are of great interest. Platinum (II)-based agents are highly potent and are used to treat many cancers, including ovarian cancer (OC). Cisplatin (cis-diaminedichloroplatinum (II)) is the first Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved metallodrug for treatment of solid tumors, and its mechanism …
Synthesis And Characterization Of Multifunctional Transition Metal Oxide Nanoparticles Through A Modified Sol-Gel Method With Application In Energy Storage, Julien Lombardi
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
The Synthesis of transition metal oxide nanoparticles has been studied in great detail over the many years. The most studied transition metal oxide nanoparticles are perovskites of the ABO3 stoichiometry (A and B = transition metal) and more recently double perovskite crystal structures of the AA’BO6 or A2BB’O6 stoichiometry due to the many different properties arising from the many different combinations of elements possible. These materials have proven potentially useful in many fields, but due to properties such as ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism, the desire to integrate these materials into electronics is ever growing. Many synthesis …
Synthesis Of Complex/Multifunctional Metal (Hydr)Oxide/Graphite Oxide/Aunps Or Agnps Adsorbents And Analysis Of Their Interactions With Chemical Warfare Agents, Dimitrios A. Giannakoudakis
Synthesis Of Complex/Multifunctional Metal (Hydr)Oxide/Graphite Oxide/Aunps Or Agnps Adsorbents And Analysis Of Their Interactions With Chemical Warfare Agents, Dimitrios A. Giannakoudakis
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
One of the most widely used chemical warfare agent (CWA) is mustard gas, which is a highly toxic blistering agent. In this study we investigated the interactions of mustard gas surrogates’ vapors on zinc and zirconium hydroxides and their composites with graphite oxide (GO) and/or Au or Ag nanoparticles. Even though a small quantity of reports about the detoxification of CWAs on metal oxides is reported in the literature, almost all of these studies are performed in the liquid phase. Both herein reported Zn(OH)2 and Zr(OH)4 showed a good adsorption performance, with the former being photoactive under visible …
Development Of New Radiolabeling Methods And Insights On Ionizing Radiation Interactions With Nanoparticles, Travis Shaffer
Development Of New Radiolabeling Methods And Insights On Ionizing Radiation Interactions With Nanoparticles, Travis Shaffer
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Nanoparticles are often combined with radionuclides for various applications, ranging from waste remediation to imaging and therapy in the medical field. The overarching aim of this body of work is two-fold. The first aim is development of new radiolabeling methods for various nanoparticles that allow stable attachment of a variety of imaging and therapeutic radionuclides. The second portion more fully describes mechanisms of interaction between ionizing radiation and nanoparticles.
The following advancements will be presented in this dissertation: i) a new radiolabeling method for silica and silica-based nanoparticles that does not require the use of specific chelators, with both radiochemical …
