Effects Of Surface Ligation On Charge Extraction From Wurtzite Cadmium Selenide Quantum Platelets And Quantum Belts, Hailey Meyer Dec 2022

Effects Of Surface Ligation On Charge Extraction From Wurtzite Cadmium Selenide Quantum Platelets And Quantum Belts, Hailey Meyer

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation presents the synthesis of flat, colloidal wurtzite CdSe quantum platelets and quantum belts for ligand exchange to novel and existing organic and inorganic L-, X-, and Z- type ligands. Use of these ligands in conjunction with the semiconductor nanocrystals allows for examination of their ligand exchange abilities, photoluminescence quenching efficiencies, and charge transfer properties.

First, zinc and cadmium dithiocarbamate compounds [M(S2CNR1R2)2] are used as ligands on wurtzite CdSe quantum belts. Complete ligand exchange is achieved when the belts are initially ligated with Cd(oleate)2, a Z-type ligand, prior to the exchange, as opposed to n-octylamine or ammonia, which are …

In-Situ Imaging Of Surface Heterogeneity In Semiconductor Photocatalysts Using Singlemolecule Fluorescence Microscopy, Meikun Shen May 2021

In-Situ Imaging Of Surface Heterogeneity In Semiconductor Photocatalysts Using Singlemolecule Fluorescence Microscopy, Meikun Shen

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Metal oxide semiconductors have been used as promising photocatalysts to convert solar energy into useful fuels, such as water splitting, carbon dioxide reduction, and nitrogen fixation reactions. However, the typical metal oxide photocatalysts' efficiency often suffers from their weak visible light absorption and low charge carrier mobilities. One common strategy to mitigate these limitations is to introduce oxygen vacancies into the lattice of the semiconductor photocatalysts. This strategy has been applied to many metal oxide photocatalysts, such as titanium oxide, tungsten oxide, and zinc oxide, and oxygen vacancies indeed enhance their catalytic activities. Various roles of oxygen vacancies have all …

Production Of Medical Radioisotopes Using Titanium Accelerator Targets, Christopher Shaun Loveless Aug 2020

Production Of Medical Radioisotopes Using Titanium Accelerator Targets, Christopher Shaun Loveless

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Theranostic radiopharmaceuticals enable diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy in patients using a single molecular agent labeled with a diagnostic-therapeutic pair (e.g., 68Ga/177Lu) or a theranostic radionuclide (e.g., 131I). This theranostic approach can help inform patient-specific treatment plans and improve clinical outcomes. Radionuclide pairs used in theranostic agents fall into two categories: pseudo matched-pairs (e.g., 68Ga/177Lu) and matched-pairs (e.g., 124I/131I). Pseudo matched-pair radionuclides have similar chemistries and pharmacokinetics when bound to the same bioconjugate molecule. In contrast, identical chemistries and pharmacokinetics can be obtained by using the matched-pair radionuclides.

The isotopes of Sc include two diagnostic radioisotopes, 43Sc & 44Sc, and …

Nickel catalysts are commonly used for cross-coupling reactions such as Negishi, Kumada and Suzuki couplings. While Ni(0), Ni(I), and Ni(II) intermediates are most relevant in these transformations, Ni(III) and Ni(IV) species have also been recently proposed to play a role in catalysis. The formation of C–C and C–heteroatom bonds plays a fundamental role in organic transformations, and today cross-coupling reactions are one …

An Nmr Study Of Co2 Dynamics And Structural Characterization Of Porous Materials, Robert M. Marti Aug 2018

An Nmr Study Of Co2 Dynamics And Structural Characterization Of Porous Materials, Robert M. Marti

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) has proven to be a versatile and powerful analytical tool to study many areas of interest to the scientific community, such as molecular dynamics and structural characterization. In this dissertation, NMR was used as a probe for CO2 dynamics in metal-organic frameworks. Variable temperature (VT) NMR was used to determine molecular dynamics of CO2, going as low as 8 K. In the fast motion regime, where the CO2 hopping rate is fast compared to the NMR experiment time, 13CO2 inside of Mg-MOF-74 still exhibits a chemical shift anisotropy (CSA) powder pattern. However, there is a certain …

Oxidative C-C Bond Formation Reactivity Of High Valent Nickel And Palladium Complexes, Michael Benjamin Watson May 2017

Oxidative C-C Bond Formation Reactivity Of High Valent Nickel And Palladium Complexes, Michael Benjamin Watson

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The development of both palladium and nickel catalysis over the past several decades has led to the ability to perform a multitude of C-C coupling, C-Heteroatom coupling, and C-H functionalization reactions. These reactions typically utilize a catalytic cycle involving Pd0/II/IV and Ni0/II. While using these types of catalytic cycles one can create a multitude of different hard to make bonds, it is always important to keep expanding what we view as potential catalytic intermediates to keep developing new cycles capable of new transformations. One such way to expand our knowledge of these catalytic cycles is to look at the oxidation …

High-Valent Organometallic Palladium And Nickel Complexes And Their Roles In Carbon-Carbon And Carbon-Heteroatom Bond Formation Reactions, Jason Wesley Schultz May 2016

High-Valent Organometallic Palladium And Nickel Complexes And Their Roles In Carbon-Carbon And Carbon-Heteroatom Bond Formation Reactions, Jason Wesley Schultz

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The development of palladium catalysis has been influential in a wide range of organic transformations, in particular C-C coupling, C-Heteroatom coupling and C-H functionalization reactions. These catalytic transformations normally proceed through the Pd0/II catalytic cycle. These reactions are remarkably useful, however, they suffer from two major problems: -hydride elimination and palladium black deposition. To circumvent these problems, recent reports have been focused on developing novel organic transformations proceeding through high-valent palladium and nickel catalytic cycles.

To this point, we recently reported the isolation and characterization of various mononuclear PdIII complexes using the tetradentate ligands, N,N-di-alkyl-2,11-diaza[3.3](2,6)pyridinophane (RN4, R = tBu, iPr, …
