Park (Canyonlands) to experience solitude or to "get away from people." Yet visitation to
Canyonlands has risen exponentially over the past five years (Figures I and 2). Visitation is expected to continue to rise. The Pithara-Dalwallinu Land Conservation District was initiated in 1985. Over the past seven years the committee has carried out various trials, demonstrations and field days. It was decided in 1989 to go along the road of whole catchment planning utilising the Geographic Information System (GIS).
