From The Bronx Into The Wild! My Adventurous Experience At The Bronx Zoo, Lauren Noll

Student Theses 2001-2013

Many people defend zoos, claiming that they provide great opportunities in education, scientific research, and the overall preservation of wildlife worldwide. However, many people will take the opposing side, arguing that it is wrong to deprive animals of their natural habitats and lifestyles. One of the greatest controversies of our time pertains to the moral issues associated with keeping animals in captivity, such as in zoos and aquariums.

Land Use Policy And Development On Long Island, Richard Murdocco May 2009

Land Use Policy And Development On Long Island, Richard Murdocco

Student Theses 2001-2013

Most suburbs radiate in rings around the central city, but Long Island is different, Since it is an island (as the name cleverly states), development can only go so far in the directions in the compass. This relative compactness has shaped and influenced not only the physical form of construction for residences, infrastructure and industry, but also the patterns of development along the 118 mile long fish shaped isle. Long Island today is considered a suburb of New York City, but historically, the intricate connection between the two was not always as strong as it is today.

Environmental Internship & The Fordham Eco-Roof Proposal, Anthony Giovannone Apr 2009

Environmental Internship & The Fordham Eco-Roof Proposal, Anthony Giovannone

Student Theses 2001-2013

Fordham received its 2008 College Sustainability Report Card, scrapping by with a C‐ while Columbia received an A‐, and NYU a B‐. Adding to this low score is a C grade on student involvement, which is the essentially why I am writing this proposal. There is an increasing awareness, in college students, of human caused effects on the environment, and its potential degradation due to human action. Many Fordham students would consider themselves environmental citizens, and most are willing to be active. There is a need for an educational application of solutions to the everyday problems that involve human action …

Recycling Tendencies Of Fordham University's Population, Jeremy Aiss, Vincent Ammirato, Anamarie Beluch, Christopher Torres Jan 2009

Recycling Tendencies Of Fordham University's Population, Jeremy Aiss, Vincent Ammirato, Anamarie Beluch, Christopher Torres

Student Theses 2001-2013

Our experiment aimed to find whether there was a correlation between the distance necessary to travel in order to recycle and the actual frequency of recycling. As a result, we hypothesized that recycling rate would be dependent upon the convenience to the recycler and consequently that the farther the distance between the garbage and recycling receptacle, the lower the likeliness of recycling. Between two buildings, the Walsh Library and the McGinley Center, we found that the total amount of recycling varied only slightly between these two buildings with Walsh having a 71.6% rate of recycling of all items, while McGinley …

Environmental Health And Climate Change: The Case Of Lyme Disease, Matthew Abad Jan 2009

Environmental Health And Climate Change: The Case Of Lyme Disease, Matthew Abad

Student Theses 2001-2013

During the last couple of decades, global warming has been a topic of great investigation. The temperature of the Earth has been slowly raising and an increase in just a few degrees can have tragic consequences to this planet. One of the reasons for global warming is due to the effect of solar variation. The surface of the sun develops hot spots where more heat is generated and therefore results in an increase in the Earth’s temperature. The major reason for global warming is due to human activities. The human population greatly depends on coal for a source of fuel …
