Trace-Level Determination Of Fluorescently Labeled Phenoxy Acid Herbicides And The Study Of Their Crop Uptake And Soil Accumulation, Noura Saeed Al Nuaimi Dec 1999

Trace-Level Determination Of Fluorescently Labeled Phenoxy Acid Herbicides And The Study Of Their Crop Uptake And Soil Accumulation, Noura Saeed Al Nuaimi

Theses

A challenging problem facing the determination of phenoxy acid herbicides in samples is their low UV absorptivity and the interference associated with the matrix in which these analytes exist. This thesis is concerned with improving the detection limits of this group of herbicid as well as reduce or eliminate interference associated with the sample matrix.

Native phenoxy acid herbicides could be analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet detection. Phenoxy herbicides were analyzed by HPLC employing a gradient conditions that allowed baseline resolution of all analytes used in this study in approximately 20 min. However, the average detection …

Removal Of Trace Contaminants From Wastewater Effluents Using Local Adsorbents, Kasim Ghulam Haider Ghulam Jun 1999

Removal Of Trace Contaminants From Wastewater Effluents Using Local Adsorbents, Kasim Ghulam Haider Ghulam

Theses

Wastewater reclamation must ensure removal of residual pollutants to a high degree so as to make the water acceptable for the designated reuse. There has been a growing interest worldwide to employ cost-effective treatment methods for polishing secondary treatment wastewater effluents. Carbon adsorption has proved to be an effective method for effluent polishing but treatment costs are relatively high.

AI-Ain wastewater treatment plant at Zakher has a design capacity of 54,000 m3/day and incorporates preliminary treatment, followed by extended aeration and dual-media filtration for effluent polishing before water reuse in irrigation. The chemical quality of the treated effluent …

Effect Of Culturing Time And Hormonal Combinations On Organogenesis Of Date Palm (Phoenix Dactylifera L., Cv. Khnazi) In Vitro, Helal Homaid S. Al-Kaabi Jun 1999

Effect Of Culturing Time And Hormonal Combinations On Organogenesis Of Date Palm (Phoenix Dactylifera L., Cv. Khnazi) In Vitro, Helal Homaid S. Al-Kaabi

Theses

Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) monocotyledon dioecious tree is one of the most important fruit crop trees in the Arabian Gulf region in general and in the UAE in particular.

Date palm is propagated sexually by seeds or vegetative by offshoots. Seed propagation is not appropriate for commercial production because of the high genetic heterozygosity, which resulted in not true-to-type male and female seedlings. The vegetative propagation utilizing offshoots is slow and inefficient for rapidly growing demands of the date industry. Therefore, it seems essential to use plant tissue culture techniques for propagating and producing date palms.

The present …

Growth And Performance Of Some Forage And Landscape Species Directly Irrigated With Saline Water, Mohammed Abdul Muhsen Ali Salem Jun 1999

Growth And Performance Of Some Forage And Landscape Species Directly Irrigated With Saline Water, Mohammed Abdul Muhsen Ali Salem

Theses

This work aimed to study the growth and physiological performance of SIX forage and

landscape species grown in Nahshalah farm , Zayed International Agricultural and Environmental Research Program Among these species 4 mangrove plants were first Introduced to U. A. E cli mate and soils In addition, Acacia ampliceps and Atriplex amnicola The study covered 1- 7 years plants were irrigated With 25 ppt . Saline water. The study investigated also the changes in the soil chemical characteristics and mineral composition during the 1 -9 years direct irrigation with saline water

The growth performance was measured based on the sufficient …

Management Of Emissions At Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company, Abdul Aziz R Al Nuaimi May 1999

Management Of Emissions At Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company, Abdul Aziz R Al Nuaimi

Theses

Gas industries in the United Arab Emirates are vastly growing in order to mainly cope with the increasing demand for energy productions as well as for the wise utilization of gas associate with the crude oil. Environmental problems coupled with gas employment necessitates the development of a management techniques that can lead to better control of emissions from gas processing companies since some of these emissions are unavoidable for safety reasons.

This study suggests a framework to be used to control emissions from Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company (ADGAS) in Das Island, which represents a typical major gas processing company …

User-Responsivity And Environment-Sensitivity Consideration For State-Funded Housing In Alain City, Nassra Saif Al Daheri Jan 1999

User-Responsivity And Environment-Sensitivity Consideration For State-Funded Housing In Alain City, Nassra Saif Al Daheri

Theses

Massive housing projects have shown that prospective users are rarely given the opportunity to participate in the design decisions. Subsequently, such schemes commonly fail to accommodate all their needs. In the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the housing projects that aim at resettling of Bedouin into newly developed urban communities are state-funded. Many of these houses that were built in the late seventies and early eighties were transferred back to the state (in a very bad condition due to the users random modifications and additions) in exchange of newer better houses. The lack of an adaptive design concept that can accommodate …

Effect Of The Environmental Parameters On The Distribution Of Foraminifera In The Coastal Area Of Ras Al Khaimah, U.A.E., Naama Obaid Saif Al-Kaabi Jan 1999

Effect Of The Environmental Parameters On The Distribution Of Foraminifera In The Coastal Area Of Ras Al Khaimah, U.A.E., Naama Obaid Saif Al-Kaabi

Theses

Twenty samples of sea water and twenty samples of sediment were collected from the off shore area of Ras AI-Khaimah to find out the relationships between environmental parameters, abundance of foraminifera, and ratio of living to dead foraminifera.

Analysis of sea water for the environmental parameters includs, temperature, salinity and nutrient salts (nitrate, nitrite, silicate, phosphate and amonia). Organic mattar, and total carbonate were measured in the bottom sediments. Grain size analysis of the bottom sediments was done using seiving method. The foraminiferal species were picked, counted and photographed using the SEM. The ratio of dead to living forams was …
