As a part of a National Pork Producers Council educational program, our research and extension team at the University of Kentucky was linked with an independent commercial swine producer to test the NCPIG model against observed commercial on-farm data. This experience provided improved information for model development as well as increased producer insight into the data input needs and potential benefits of modeling. Detailed production information comparisons between the NCPIG model and producer data are presented for summer time conditions to assess the validity of the NCPIG model for simulation of grow-finish swine performance. This report summarizes the work completed under the research project "Evaluation of Dentention Basins for Controlling Urban Runoff and Sedimentation." The main project accomplishments were:

(1) a demonstration of the desirability of considering systems of urban stormwater detention basins as opposed to individual basin design,

(2) the development of a systems analysis approach for least cost selection of a system of dentention basins for meeting a preset hydrologic objective,

(3) the development of a mathematical, computer-based simulation model of the performance of sediment retention basins,

(4) partial verification of the sediment basin model and

(5) the development of design recommendations …

Soundly planned water resources development requires a knowledge of streamflow magnitudes and time patterns. Where recorded information is unavailable, water resources project design can be greatly improved by streamflow simulation.

This study is devoted to describing the application of a self-calibrating version of the Stanford Watershed Model to 17 rural Kentucky watersheds and two urbanizing watersheds. The required data for this version (OPSET) is tabulated and the data collection process is described. The watershed parameter values estimated by OPSET and independent numerical estimates of physical watershed characteristics are tabulated and correlated.
