The only Polish municipal solid waste (MSW) incinerator has been operating within the Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Plant in Warsaw since 2000. In the paper selected results of the air quality impact assessment for this incinerator during an operating period of one year (2008) are presented. With respect to the incinerated waste amounts and emission levels, the analysed period can be considered typical for this facility. Assessment of the air quality impact was carried out by assessing air pollutant emissions in reference to the applicable emission limit values and by modeling atmospheric dispersion of these pollutants. Waste incineration causes unavoidable pollutant emissions to atmosphere and thus negative impact on air quality, but scale of the influence is often exaggerated. In the paper computation results of the atmospheric dispersion of pollutants were presented for one of the largest industrial and hazardous waste incineration plant existing in Poland (processing capacity: 3 ton per hour). These results confirm the fact that the incinerator meets the requirements of best available techniques (BAT) for the waste incineration and its impact on air quality is relatively small. In the paper preliminary analysis of the continuous measurements of the air pollutants emission and other

parameters of high-temperature process of chloroorganic waste incineration (liquid injection incinerator - Vicarb technology) are presented. In the analysis there was taken especially note of the parameters influencing the emissions, which could significantly vary in the incineration system (for example the amount of incinerated wastes) and pollutants like hydrogen chloride, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. Production of vinyl chloride is a source of formation of significant gaseous, liquid and solid streams of chlorinated organic wastes containing up to 90 % of chlorine. One of the methods of chlorine recovery from the wastes is incineration. During the waste incineration chlorine released into the flue gases mainly in the form of hydrogen chloride (HCl). The work summarizes factors influencing on air emissions from various full-scale hazardous waste incinerators (rotary kiln, multiple hearth furnace, starved-air incinerator, fluidized bed incinerator, liquid injection incinerator). Air pollutant emissions from hazardous waste incineration can be minimized not only by flue-gas cleaning. The article presents measurement results of air pollutant emissions from incineration of selected hazardous wastes in a full-scale rotary kiln equipped with afterburner and a wet installation for flue gas cleaning. This type of kiln is suitable for thermal disposal of many sorts of wastes, both solid and liquid. Four groups of waste were being incinerated during the tests: coke tars, medical (hospital) and pharmaceutical wastes added to greased cleaning materials, a sawdust and used gloves, varnish and lubrication wastes, as well as waste rubber and resins. This paper is a general characteristic of the industrial and hazardous waste incineration plant which was operated in Dąbrowa Górnicza (Poland) in the 90. The waste incineration plant is based on two incinerators - a rotary kiln and a multiple hearth furnace. Levels of selected air pollutant emissions presented in the work allow to assess the potential impact of this facility on air quality.

The article presents incineration tests of silty-tar sludge produced in the wastewater treatment plant for coke industry. Sewage sludges were incinerated in a full-scale multiple hearth incinerator equipped with a wet flue-gas cleaning system (alkaline scrubber). Measurements of air pollutant emissions were carried out both before and after the cleaning system. The obtained results allow to conclude that the thermal utilization of sewage sludge in this type of installation might be just a little cumbersome for the environment, using the appropriate equipment for the purification of exhaust gases. The paper presents the results of measurements of the concentration of selected pollutants in the flue gases from the incineration of industrial wastes in a full-scale rotary kiln. The study included three waste mixtures introduced into the kiln: 1) coal tar waste (tar origin of coke); 1) waste paints, varnish and lubricant; 3) resin and rubber waste. The article also assesses the effectiveness of the existing wet flue gas cleaning system (alkaline scrubber) and specifies minimum exhaust gas purifying performance guarantees compliance with European emission standards for waste incineration.
