Step-By-Step Modification Of Graphite Felt Electrode For Vanadium Redox Flow Battery, Jing-Yuan Lou, Dong-Jiang You, Xue-Jing Li

Journal of Electrochemistry

As a well-known electrode material of the vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB),graphite felt electrode is the frequently-used electrode material in VRFB, and its low electrochemical activity is one of the key factors for the low power density of VRFB. In this work, we proposed a step-by-step modification method, which used KMnO4 to oxidize graphite felt first and then placed in an activation solution to excite its reactivity, to improve the electrochemical performance of the graphite felt electrode. According to the results from cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) characterizations …

Effect Of Nitrogen Content In Catalyst Precursor On Activity Of Fen/C Catalyst For Oxygen Reduction Reaction, Zhi Yang, Ya-Yun Shen, E Zhou, Cheng-Ling Wei, Hao-Li Qin, Juan Tian Feb 2020

Effect Of Nitrogen Content In Catalyst Precursor On Activity Of Fen/C Catalyst For Oxygen Reduction Reaction, Zhi Yang, Ya-Yun Shen, E Zhou, Cheng-Ling Wei, Hao-Li Qin, Juan Tian

Journal of Electrochemistry

Non-noble metal catalysts with high activity and low cost have attracted increasing interest as potential catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to replace Pt-based catalysts. In this paper, the effect of nitrogen content in catalyst precursor on ORR activity of FeN/C catalyst was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) surface area and pore size distribution measurements, transmission electron microscope (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and rotating disk electrode (RDE) techniques. The results show that the most active catalyst was obtained by pyrolysis in argon at 1050 °C with a catalyst precursor containing 20wt% 1,10-phenanthroline, 1wt% Fe and Black Pearl 2000. …

© 2020 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC Developing photocatalysts with superior efficiency and selectivity is an important issue for photocatalytic converting CO2. Hierarchically heterostructured one-dimensional nanomaterials represent a kind of promising catalysts for photocatalytic CO2 reduction on account of the high surface area and synthetic effect between different components. Herein, we synthesized UIO-66-NH2/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) heterostructures via a hydrothermal method, and investigated their photocatalytic performance. The element mapping, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy collectively confirmed that the UIO-66-NH2 was successfully loaded on the surface of the CNTs. The specific surface area of the UIO-66-NH2/CNTs is 1.5 times higher than that …
