Uncertainty In Climatic Change Impacts On Multiscale Watershed Systems, Olga V. Tsvetkova Sep 2013

Uncertainty In Climatic Change Impacts On Multiscale Watershed Systems, Olga V. Tsvetkova

Open Access Dissertations

Uncertainty in climate change plays a major role in watershed systems. The increase in variability and intensity in temperature and precipitation affects hydrologic cycle in spatial and temporal dimensions. Predicting uncertainty in climate change impacts on watershed systems can help to understand future climate-induced risk on watershed systems and is essential for designing policies for mitigation and adaptation. Modeling the temporal patterns of uncertainties is assessed in the New England region for temperature and precipitation patterns over a long term. The regional uncertainty is modeled using Python scripting and GIS to analyze spatial patterns of climate change uncertainties over space …

Applications Of Bayesian Statistics In Fluvial Bed Load Transport, Mark L. Schmelter May 2013

Applications Of Bayesian Statistics In Fluvial Bed Load Transport, Mark L. Schmelter

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The science of fluvial sediment transport studies the processes involved in the movement of river sediments. It is commonly understood that when rivers flood they have a great capacity to move sand, gravel, and even larger cobbles and boulders. This process is not only limited to the big floods that usually attract so much attention, but also the more common river flows play a very important role in forming a river. As engineers and scientists, we like to be able to develop equations and relationships that describe some natural phenomenon—in this case, fluvial sediment transport. While we are able to …

Propagation Of Interval And Probabilistic Uncertainty In Cyberinfrastructure-Related Data Processing And Data Fusion, Christian Servin Jan 2013

Propagation Of Interval And Probabilistic Uncertainty In Cyberinfrastructure-Related Data Processing And Data Fusion, Christian Servin

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Data uncertainty affects the results of data processing. So, it is necessary to find out how the data uncertainty propagates into the uncertainty of the results of data processing. This problem is especially important when cyberinfrastructure enables us to process large amounts of heterogeneous data. In the ideal world, we should have an accurate description of data uncertainty, and well-justified efficient algorithms to propagate this uncertainty. In practice, we are often not yet in this ideal situation: the description of uncertainty is often only approximate, and the algorithms for uncertainty propagation are often not well-justified and not very computationally efficient. …

Computation Of Grade Values Of Sediment-Hosted Barite Deposits In Northeastern Isparta (Western Turkey), Numan Elmas, Uğur Şahi̇n Jan 2013

Computation Of Grade Values Of Sediment-Hosted Barite Deposits In Northeastern Isparta (Western Turkey), Numan Elmas, Uğur Şahi̇n

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Grade value is a crucial parameter for the mineral industry. Investigation of grade value of mineral resources provides the optimum benefit. In this study, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and artificial neural network (ANN) model were applied for the prediction of grade values. The spatial coordinates X, Y, and Z of the study area along with bore hole geochemical data were used as input variables in the model. In order to illustrate the applicability and capability of these methods, the western part of Turkey, between the latitudes 38°01 45 N and 38°09 52 N and between the longitudes 31°23 …
