Nouvelles Contributions A La Connaisance De L'Histoire De La Vegetation Holocene Des Monts Rodnei (Carpates Orientales), Ioan TanțăU

Studia UBB Geologia

New Contributions to the Knowledge of the Holocene Vegetation History of Rodnei Mountains. Two sequences originating from one peat bog in Poiana Ştiol (Rodnei Mts.) were pollen analyzed. The vegetation history is described since the Atlantic period. In this period the vegetation is dominated by Picea together with Corylus, Ulmus and Alnus viridis. The components frequencies of the Quercetum mixtum (Quercus, Fraxinus, Tilia, Corylus) rarely exceed 10%. The vegetation of the Subboreal period is dominated by the Carpinus and that of the Subatlantic is dominated by Fagus. Picea pollen is well represented belong the entire sequences.

Aspects De L'Histoire De La Végétation Tardiglaciaire Et Holocène Dans La Région Des Subcarpates De La Courbure (Subcarpates De Buzau), Ioan TanțăU, Maurice Reille, Sorina FăRcaș, Jacques-Louis De Beaulieu Mar 2012

Studia UBB Geologia

A Late Glacial - Holocene sequence from the Bisoca peat bog (Buzăului Subcarpathians) was studied from palynological point of view. The vegetation history, supported by 12 14C dates is described since the end of the Late Glacial. At the onset of the Holocene Ulmus became established by around 9,700 B.P.; Quercus, Fraxinus, Tilia, Corylus became established almost simultaneously by around 9,500 B.P. The local establishment of Carpinus is about 6,200 B.P. Its maximum occurred since 5,000 B.P. Fagus pollen is regularly recorded since 7,000 B.P. Its absolute dominance took place at about 2,000 B.P.

Late Miocene Palaeoclimate And Ecosystem Dynamics In Southwestern Bulgaria − A Study Based On Pollen Data From The Gotse-Delchev Basin, Dimiter A. Ivanov, Torsten Utescher, A. Rahman Ashraf, Volker Mosbrugger, Vladimir Bozukov, Nadezhda Djorgova, Evgenia Slavomirova Jan 2012

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

A profile 63 m thick in the Late Miocene in the Gotse-Dechev Basin (SW Bulgaria) was sampled for pollen analysis in the Kanina opencast mine. The exposed sequence comprises a basal unit with brown coal-clay cycles and clayey/siliciclastic cover layers partly representing a lacustrine facies. A total of 60 pollen samples were analysed, but quantitative data are confined to 30 polleniferous samples. The palynological analysis carried out provides data about the composition and structure of the fossil vegetation. The main vegetation type was a mixed mesophytic forest dominated by Carya, Fagus, Betula, Quercus, and Ulmus. Accessory elements included Magnolia, Corylopsis, …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Lower-Middle Miocene successions from Kütahya province (Seyitömer and Tunçbilek sub-basins) were analyzed to reconstruct the palaeoclimate and vegetation of the period. A rich coniferous forest formed the dominant components among sporomorphs and consisted mainly of undeterminable Pinaceae, Pinus haploxylon type, Pinus diploxylon type, Picea, Cedrus, Cathaya, Keteleeria and Podocarpus. Pollen data also indicate the presence of some fern taxa (Osmunda, Polypodiaceae, Schizeaceae) Selaginella and Lycopodium. Cupressaceae frequently occur in all samples from both sub-basins, and form part of the mixed forest assemblage. Two woody plants Castanea-Castanopsis and evergreen Quercus predominate in the assemblages as well. The reconstruction of palaeoclimate is …

Sedimentary Properties Of The Middle−Upper Eocene Formations In Çardak, Burdur And İncesu, Sw Turkey, Ezher Toker, Mehmet Serkan Akki̇raz, Fuzuli̇ Yağmurlu, Funda Akgün, Sefer Örçen Jan 2012

Sedimentary Properties Of The Middle−Upper Eocene Formations In Çardak, Burdur And İncesu, Sw Turkey, Ezher Toker, Mehmet Serkan Akki̇raz, Fuzuli̇ Yağmurlu, Funda Akgün, Sefer Örçen

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The integration of sedimentological, palynological and palaeontological data in three different outcrops in SW Turkey provides a clearer understanding of the palaeoenvironments in an area between the Çardak-Dazkırı Basin and the Isparta region during the Middle-Late Eocene. In this study, the Çardak-Dazkırı (Başçeşme Formation), Burdur (Varsakyayla Formation) and Isparta (Kayıköy Formation) areas have been studied for facies and facies associations. These formations contain alluvial fan, fan delta, shelf and related marine deposits. Detailed field observations allowed 34 lithofacies and 10 facies associations to be identified. The palynomorph assemblages in the Başçeşme and Varsakyayla formations contain biostratigraphically important taxa such as …

Palynostratigraphy Of The Umir Formation, Middle Magdalena Valley Basin (Mmvb) Colombia, Carlos Enrique Santos Jan 2012

Palynostratigraphy Of The Umir Formation, Middle Magdalena Valley Basin (Mmvb) Colombia, Carlos Enrique Santos

LSU Master's Theses

The Late Cretaceous Umir Formation in Middle Magdalena Valley Basin (MMVB) was recently acknowledged as a new target. However, there is little known about the regional distribution of the Umir Formation since it is affected by structural complexity and a major regional unconformity. To improve biosteering of the Umir Formation and reduce exploratory risks, a detailed biostratigraphic analysis of the Umir Formation in the MMVB is presented. Eighty samples from four cores drilled in the Central Eastern MMVB were analyzed for palynological content. These cores represent 976.6 meters of the Middle to Upper Umir Formation. The sediment yielded a good …

A High-Resolution Palynological Analysis Of The St. Stephens Quarry, Alabama: Locating The Eocene-Oligocene Boundary And Characterizing The Environmental Changes Across The Margin, Kevin Jensen Jan 2012

A High-Resolution Palynological Analysis Of The St. Stephens Quarry, Alabama: Locating The Eocene-Oligocene Boundary And Characterizing The Environmental Changes Across The Margin, Kevin Jensen

LSU Master's Theses

The Eocene-Oligocene (E-O) transition is a key interval in geological history because it marks a major change in Earth’s climate and because these strata are also popular oil targets in the Gulf Coast. E-O sequences in Alabama are stratigraphically complex. The St. Stephens Quarry (SSQ) in Alabama is one of the few accessible quarries along the Gulf Coast where the E-O boundary is visible in outcrop. Despite the abundance of research projects conducted in the SSQ, many controversies still surround the E-O boundary placement and correlation to the Global Stratotype in the Massignano section in Italy that is based on …
