The Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park covers over 800 acres within Manchester, Tennessee, and is owned and managed by the Tennessee Division of State Parks. The central archaeological site within the park boundary is The Old Stone Fort mounds that enclose about 50 acres on a plateau above the convergence of the Big Duck and the Little Duck Rivers. The hilltop enclosure dates to the Middle Woodland Period, and radiocarbon dates obtained at the site range from the first to the fifth century A. D. During this work, the regional gravity data acquired earlier were used and in order to investigate the relations between geology - tectonics and elevation, isostatic map of Turkey, free air anomaly map and Bouguer anomaly maps were obtained, and comparisons with respect to elevations were carried out. For the thickness of the earth crust T 0 32 - 0.08g relation was used. The best relation was obtained from Bouguer anomaly with +0.65 coefficient; the relation function was obtained as Y = - 72E + 7.77. The growth of structural features formed by the movement of the Louann Salt within the study area follows a fold-first model (Rowan et al., 2000), in which the formation of the Frampton Fold predates the formation of the Green Knoll Diapir. The Frampton Fold was formed during two growth episodes driven by movement of the Louann Salt within the study area. The folding and faulting resulting from these growth episodes created a conduit through which the autochthonous Louann Salt was extruded to the sea floor during the Pliocene. The purpose of this research project is to continue exploring the Montandon Long-Term Hydrologic Research Site(LTHR) by using multiple geophysical methods to obtain more accurate and precise information regarding subsurface hydrologic properties of a local gravel ridge,which are important to both the health of surrounding ecosystems and local agriculture. Through using non-invasive geophysical methods such as seismic refraction, Direct Current resistivity and ground penetrating radar (GPR) instead of invasive methods such as boreholedrilling which displace sediment and may alter water flow, data collection is less likely to bias the data itself. Three pits were excavated in the 1960’s at the Fordoche Oil Field in Lottie, Louisiana, as evaporation pits for oil well produced brines. The pits were closed and completed in the 1980’s. Previous studies indicate that produced water has leached into the subsurface within the area to the south and southeast of the pits. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) was utilized in an attempt to delineate the present location of the plume as well as test the feasibility of GPR within a clayey soil in south Louisiana.
