Underground coal gasification (UCG), which is a revolutionary coal mining technology, is an important direction for achieving a low-carbon and efficient coal energy structure in China and is also a potential explorable way to ensure the smooth realization of the peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality in China. Based on a literature survey, this study sorts out the exploration process of UCG technologies in Australia and analyzes the gains and losses using field test cases. North China type coalfield is an important coal base in China, and hydrogeochemical prospecting is an important means to solve a series of hydrogeological problems in the process of coal mining. The typical hydrogeological problems under the influence of mining were analyzed based on the generalization of the typical hydrogeological structure of North China type coalfield. Meanwhile, the multi-field coupling relationship of groundwater and the mechanism of hydrogeochemical prospecting in North China type coalfield, as well as its testing, analysis and treatment technology, were revealed. The effective prevention and control of coal and gas outbursts have always been a challenge for safe coal mining in China, and their prerequisite and basis are in-depth research on the coal and gas outburst mechanism.
