The paleogeography of the juxtaposed Southeast Asian terranes, derived from the northeastern margins of Gondwana during the Carboniferous to Triassic, resulted in complex basin evolution with massive carbonate deposition on the margins of the Paleo-Tethys. Due to the inherited structural and tectonothermal complexities, discovery of diagnostic microfossils from these carbonates has been problematic. This is particularly the case for the Kinta Limestone, a massive Paleozoic carbonate succession that covers most of the Kinta Valley in the central part of the Western Belt of Peninsular Malaysia. Owing to the complex structural and igneous events, as well as extensive diagenetic alterations, establishing …

Lagrangian Prediction And Correlation Analysis With Eulerian Data, Mi̇ne Çağlar, Taylan Bi̇lal, Leonid Piterbarg

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

A velocity field obtained from the ocean surface by high-frequency radar is used to test Lagrangian prediction algorithms designed to evaluate the position of a particle given its initial position and observations of several other simultaneously released particles. The problem is motivated by oceanographic applications such as search and rescue operations and spreading pollutants, especially in coastal regions. The prediction skill is essentially determined by temporal and spatial covariances of the underlying velocity field. For this reason correlation analysis of both Lagrangian and Eulerian velocities was carried out. Space covariance functions and spectra of the velocity field are also presented …

Integrated Biostratigraphy Of Eocene Deposits In The Gubs Section (Northern Caucasus) With Special Attention To The Ypresian/Lutetian Boundary And To The Peritethyan-Tethyan Correlation, Elena Zakrevskaya, Vladimir Beniamovsky, György Less, Mária Báldi-Beke Jan 2011

The Ypresian to Priabonian Gubs river section, in the Adygean high of the northern slope of the Caucasus, is a rare locality, in whichYpresian-Lutetian representative larger benthic foraminifera coexist with planktonic Foraminifera and calcareous nannoplankton. This provides a good opportunity to apply and refine the zonal Ypresian-Lutetian scheme of the Crimean-Caucasus region, to correlate the zonal subdivision of the three most important Palaeogene groups of microfossils and to give a new insight on the position of the Ypresian/Lutetian boundary. About 50 species and subspecies of larger foraminifera, represented by orthophragmines (Discocyclina, Nemkovella, Orbitoclypeus and Asterocyclina) and nummulitids (Nummulites and Operculina) …
