A compaction test was performed on the soil (-1/2") material, and mechanical analysis, specific gravity, and percolation-consolidation test was made in a large (19&1/2" diameter) percolator, cylinder and the material was well compacted into the cylinder. A consolidating load equivalent to a 20-foot fill was applied. Because it was believed that some of the fine sand might be transported through the gravel and rock by the percolating water, a 14-mesh screen and a 2-inch later of clear fine gravel (3/16" - 3/8") was placed over the gravelly material being tested.
