The Mesozoic Carbonate Deposits From The Borehole 6042 Deleni (Transylvanian Depression), Ioan I. Bucur, Marcel-Adrian Piteiu, Emanoil SăSăRan

Studia UBB Geologia

The borehole 6042 Deleni is among the few wells located in the central part of the Transylvanian Depression that crossed the rocks in the basement. Among these, the Mesozoic deposits were cross-cut along 916 m. Based on the investigations carried out on core samples from the Mesozoic deposits three carbonate units attributed to the Late Oxfordian -Tithonian (?Neocomian) have been separated. A preliminary evaluation of the terrigenous and carbonate-terrigenous deposits overlaying the carbonate ones indicated an Aptian-Albian, respectively Senonian age. Considerations on the paleoenvironment of the Mesozoic deposits studied are also presented.

The First Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) Dinosaur Footprints From Transylvania (Romania), Matei Vremir, Vlad A. Codrea

Studia UBB Geologia

An Uppermost Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) site exposing dinosaur footprints is reported from the Sebes̡ area (Transylvanian Depression). This is the first dinoturbated layer discovered in our country, containing also numerous bones belonging to various dinosaurs. The track-site is located near Lancrăm village and provides only two quite well preserved footprints (one track). The medium sized (FL = 23,3 cm; FW = 17,8 cm; pace = 103 cm; ST = 200 cm) plantigrad-tridactyle footprints belong to Ornithopedoidei, according to their morphology. An assignment to the Iguanodontichnus CASAMIQUELA & FASOLA, 1968 group seems to be appropriate (tentatively, associated to the “Rhabdodon” iguanodontian dinosaur). …

New Data On The Volcanic Tuff From Petrestii De Jos (Cluj District), Horea Bedelean, Ioan Ivan, Dana Pop, Ioan Bedelean, Gheorghe Pleșoiu Mar 2012

New Data On The Volcanic Tuff From Petrestii De Jos (Cluj District), Horea Bedelean, Ioan Ivan, Dana Pop, Ioan Bedelean, Gheorghe Pleșoiu

Studia UBB Geologia

The present study was carried out on the cineritic interlayers from Petreştii de Jos (closed quarry from Indolului Valley), in order to present their detailed mineralogical-petrographical features. Previous work already noticed the similarity of this tuff level with Dej Tuff Complex in other areas. The studied outcrop consists of a compact volcanic tuff interlayered with marls and tuffaceous clays. The analytical investigations: chemical analyses, X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and electron microscopy reveal the nature of the diagenetic transformations dominated by zeolitization. Besides clinoptilolite, which is the typical zeolite for Dej Tuff from the Transylvanian Depression, our investigation evidenced also the …
