Microbialitic Structures In The Sarmatian Carbonate Deposits From Simleu Basin, Hyam Daoud, Ioan I. Bucur, CăLin Bruchental

Studia UBB Geologia

The Sarmatian deposits from the Şimleu basin are developed in two facies: terrigenous and calcareous. An attempt to distinguish the main types of Sarmatian limestone microfacies was made by Bucur et al. (1992). The present study provides more detail of the sedimentary facies and fabrics of these limestones, emphasizing the essential contribution of microbialites to their formation. The following types of microbialite and microbial structure were found: (1) thrombolites with clotted fabric and fenestral structures; (2) microbial crusts on bioclasts; (3) peloidal microbialites (4) agglutinated microbialites; (5) stromatolites and laminoid-fenestral structures. All these structures played an important role in the …

The Olenekian Carbonates Of The Bucovinian Nappe (The Central Sector Of The Haghimas Syncline, Eastern Carpathians). Lithology And Microfacies, Daniela Alexandra Popescu, Liviu Gheorghe Popescu Mar 2012

The Olenekian Carbonates Of The Bucovinian Nappe (The Central Sector Of The Haghimas Syncline, Eastern Carpathians). Lithology And Microfacies, Daniela Alexandra Popescu, Liviu Gheorghe Popescu

Studia UBB Geologia

Early Triassic carbonate outcrops were studied in the central sector of the Hăghimaş Syncline with regard to stratigraphy, microfacies and facies interpretation. This is the first microfacies study of these deposits. Early Triassic carbonates in the Hăghimaş Syncline are represented by two stratified successions: limestones and dolomites. The limestones overlie very rarely the detritic basal deposits (Induan) which marks the beginning of the alpine transgression. The stratified dolomites underlie frequently the Early Anisian massive dolomites. The contact between the stratified limestones and stratified dolomites is only exposed on Calu brook outcrop (the western flank of the Hăghimaş Syncline). The age of …

Facies Analysis Of The Late Cretaceous Deposits From Corni Quarry (North-Eastern Border Of Gilău Mountains), Emanoil SăSăRan, Liana SăSăRan Mar 2012

Facies Analysis Of The Late Cretaceous Deposits From Corni Quarry (North-Eastern Border Of Gilău Mountains), Emanoil SăSăRan, Liana SăSăRan

Studia UBB Geologia

The Late Cretaceous deposits outcropping along the northeastern border of Gilău Mountains form a NW-SE-oriented crest. The crest is delimited westwards by the crystalline formations of Baia de Arieş Nappe. Within these deposits, two distinctive sedimentary complexes could be separated: a) The Gosau-type facies formation, that can be correlated to the “Lower Gosau Subgroup” (Wagreich & Faupl, 1994), represented by alluvial/fluvial fans and shallow marine deposits; b) The flysch-type formation, that is similar with the “Upper Gosau Subgroup” (Wagreich & Faupl, 1994) and includes deep sea deposits (hemipelagites/turbidites).The syndepositional and postdepositional tectonics controlled the sedimentation and facies distribution; the shallow …

Microfacies And Microfossils In Upper Jurassic Limestones From Cheile Turenilor, Emanoil SăSăRan, Ioan I. Bucur, Ioana Prica Mar 2012

Microfacies And Microfossils In Upper Jurassic Limestones From Cheile Turenilor, Emanoil SăSăRan, Ioan I. Bucur, Ioana Prica

Studia UBB Geologia

In the Cheile Turenilor (Tureni Gorges) area, a carbonate succession about 150 m thick developed on top of island arc magmatites. It mainly consist of gravity - induced deposits (debris flows, mass flows and grain flows). Coral, sponges and stromatoporoid bioconstructions are associated. Microbolites play an important role, as binders of the intraclastic rudstones/ grainstones facies, as well as of the incorporated corals, sponges, stromatoporoids, bryozoans, molluscs.

New Data Concerning The Age Of Mesozoic Limestone From Scarisoara (Bihor Mountains), Ioan I. Bucur, Bogdan P. Onac Mar 2012

New Data Concerning The Age Of Mesozoic Limestone From Scarisoara (Bihor Mountains), Ioan I. Bucur, Bogdan P. Onac

Studia UBB Geologia

Microfacies and micropalaeontologic studies on some limestone samples collected within the Scărişoara Glacier Cave are presented. The investigation pointed out that the age of the limestone around Scărişoara Cave is of Upper Jurassic (Kimmeridgian) age and not Triassic as it was considered in most of the studies.
