Traditional monocular depth estimation assumes that all objects are reliably visible in the RGB color domain. However, this is not always the case as more and more buildings are decorated with transparent glass walls. This problem has not been explored due to the difficulties in annotating the depth levels of glass walls, as commercial depth sensors cannot provide correct feedbacks on transparent objects. Furthermore, estimating depths from transparent glass walls requires the aids of surrounding context, which has not been considered in prior works. Knowledge base question answering (KBQA) aims to answer a question over a knowledge base (KB). Early studies mainly focused on answering simple questions over KBs and achieved great success. However, their performances on complex questions are still far from satisfactory. Domain adaptation enables generalized learning in new environments by transferring knowledge from label-rich source domains to label-scarce target domains. As a more realistic extension, partial domain adaptation (PDA) relaxes the assumption of fully shared label space, and instead deals with the scenario where the target label space is a subset of the source label space. In this paper, we propose a Reinforced Adaptation Network (RAN) to address the challenging PDA problem. While the state-of-the-art network embedding approaches often learn high-quality embeddings for high-degree nodes with abundant structural connectivity, the quality of the embeddings for low-degree or nodes is often suboptimal due to their limited structural connectivity. While many real-world networks are long-tailed, to date little effort has been devoted to tail node embeddings. Recommendation explanations help to improve their acceptance by end users. The form of explanation of interest here is presenting an existing review of the recommended item. The challenge is in selecting a suitable review, which is customarily addressed by assessing the relative importance of each review to the recommendation objective. Our focus is on improving review-level explanation by leveraging additional information in the form of questions and answers (QA). Recommender systems learn from historical user-item interactions to identify preferred items for target users. These observed interactions are usually unbalanced following a long-tailed distribution. Such long-tailed data lead to popularity bias to recommend popular but not personalized items to users. We present a gradient perspective to understand two negative impacts of popularity bias in recommendation model optimization: (i) the gradient direction of popular item embeddings is closer to that of positive interactions, and (ii) the magnitude of positive gradient for popular items are much greater than that of unpopular items. Hierarchical reinforcement learning (HRL) is a promising approach to perform long-horizon goal-reaching tasks by decomposing the goals into subgoals. In a holistic HRL paradigm, an agent must autonomously discover such subgoals and also learn a hierarchy of policies that uses them to reach the goals. Recently introduced end-to-end HRL methods accomplish this by using the higher-level policy in the hierarchy to directly search the useful subgoals in a continuous subgoal space. Food retrieval is an important task to perform analysis of food-related information, where we are interested in retrieving relevant information about the queried food item such as ingredients, cooking instructions, etc. In this paper, we investigate cross-modal retrieval between food images and cooking recipes. Modeling the structure of culinary recipes is the core of recipe representation learning. Current approaches mostly focus on extracting the workflow graph from recipes based on text descriptions. Process images, which constitute an important part of cooking recipes, has rarely been investigated in recipe structure modeling. We study the problem of representation learning for multiple types of entities in a co-ordered network where order relations exist among entities of the same type, and association relations exist across entities of different types.
