Rehabilitation Training System Of Vr-Based Speech Apraxia, Huanhuan Jiao, Zhigeng Pan, Shuchang Xu, Qingshu Yuan

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Aiming at the problem that the enthusiasm of active training in patients with traditional speech apraxia rehabilitation is gradually weakened, a virtual reality-based rehabilitation training system for speech apraxia is designed. The system simulates the 26 monosyllabic pronunciation mouths shapes made by virtual human in Chinese and uses it for the learning module. It is proposed to identify 26 monosyllabic words by using the isolated word speech recognition algorithm, which improves the accuracy of speech recognition. The system includes a training module and a scene module for assisting the patient's pronunciation rehabilitation training. The evaluation results show that …

3d Shape Deformation Simulation Algorithm Based On Haptics, Binbin Qi, Xuefang Zhu, Lipeng Fan

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Shape deformation is widely used in virtual reality, system simulation, computer animation and other graphics applications. Few people pay attention to introducing haptic interaction into 3D model deformation. We provide a haptic interactive framework by introducing haptic interaction into shape editing field. Based on the above haptic interactive framework, we propose a 3D model deformation simulation algorithm based on haptics. In order to realize the shape deformation, this algorithm needs to involve three parts: grid hierarchical structure, local mass-spring model and the dynamic shape deformation. Experimental results show that this algorithm has good stability and strong robustness, and the …

Engineering Faculty Articles and Research

We explore virtual environments and accompanying interaction styles to enable inclusive play. In designing games for three neurodiverse children, we explore how designing for sensory diversity can be understood through a formal game design framework. Our process reveals that by using sensory processing needs as requirements we can make sensory and social accessible play spaces. We contribute empirical findings for accommodating sensory differences for neurodiverse children in a way that supports inclusive play. Specifically, we detail the sensory driven design choices that not only support the enjoyability of the leisure activities, but that also support the social inclusion of sensory-diverse …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

With mobile apps rapidly permeating all aspects of daily living with use by all segments of the population, it is crucial to support the evaluation of app usability for specific impaired users to improve app accessibility. In this work, we examine the effects of using our augmented virtuality impairment simulation system–Empath-D–to support experienced designer-developers to redesign a mockup of commonly used mobile application for cataract-impaired users, comparing this with existing tools that aid designing for accessibility. We show that the use of augmented virtuality for assessing usability supports enhanced usability challenge identification, finding more defects and doing so more accurately …

Engineering Faculty Articles and Research

We co-designed paper prototype dashboards for virtual environments for three children with diverse sensory needs. Our goal was to determine individual interaction styles in order to enable comfortable and inclusive play. As a first step towards an inclusive virtual world, we began with designing for three sensory-diverse children who have labels of neurotypical, ADHD, and autism respectively. We focused on their leisure interests and their individual sensory profiles. We present the results of co-design with family members and paper prototyping sessions conducted by family members with the children. The results contribute preliminary empirical findings for accommodating different levels of engagement …

Engineering Faculty Articles and Research

We describe a virtual reality environment, Bob’s Fish Shop, which provides a system where users diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can practice social interactions in a safe and controlled environment. A case study is presented which suggests such an environment can provide the opportunity for users to build the skills necessary to carry out a conversation without the fear of negative social consequences present in the physical world. Through the repetition and analysis of these virtual interactions, users can improve social and conversational understanding.

Immersive Virtual Reality Attacks And The Human Joystick, Peter Casey, Ibrahim Baggili, Ananya Yarramreddy

Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Publications

This is one of the first accounts for the security analysis of consumer immersive Virtual Reality (VR) systems. This work breaks new ground, coins new terms, and constructs proof of concept implementations of attacks related to immersive VR. Our work used the two most widely adopted immersive VR systems, the HTC Vive, and the Oculus Rift. More specifically, we were able to create attacks that can potentially disorient users, turn their Head Mounted Display (HMD) camera on without their knowledge, overlay images in their field of vision, and modify VR environmental factors that force them into hitting physical objects and …

We offer theoretical avenues for libraries to build a repository 3D object files to be used in VR and AR tools and sketch some anticipated challenges. To build an infrastructure to support VR/AR collections, we have collaborated with College of Liberal Arts to pilot a program in which Libraries and CLA …

Interactive Modelling On Smooth Weighted Distance Surface In Hmd Vr Environment, Xiaoqiang Zhu, Hongyi Pan, Xu Hao, Song Lei, Mengyao Zhu, Xiangyang Wang Jan 2019

Interactive Modelling On Smooth Weighted Distance Surface In Hmd Vr Environment, Xiaoqiang Zhu, Hongyi Pan, Xu Hao, Song Lei, Mengyao Zhu, Xiangyang Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: An interactive modelling scheme in immersive VR environment is proposed, in which the point, line and polygon skeletons are inputted by handles of HMD (Head-Mounted Device). Weighted distance field is calculated in parallel with CUDA on GPU according to the varying radii, and then the iso-surface is extracted using paralleled marching cubes. In order to avoid the non-smoothness at interactions between different distance surface components, weighted filtering kernels are utilized to smooth the skeleton-based distance field with various radii in our modelling system, so that smooth blending model is produced from multi-component distance fields. In our system, …
