A Computational Model For Recovery From Brain Injury, Wayne Wakeland
Systems Science Friday Noon Seminar Series
A computational simulation model calculates recovery trajectories following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Prior publications include a multi-scale framework for studying concussion and a systems-level causal loop diagram (CLD) and discussion of feedback processes. The scope of the computational model goes beyond concussion to include all severities of TBI. A set of first order ordinary differential equations and their associated parameters determines recovery trajectories. While highly speculative, the model serves to demonstrate the potential utility of computational models in this context. For computer science, and many technical fields, it is recognized that projects with real-world applicability play a significant roll in what students get out of the course. Creating applicable projects for upper division such as our data structures classes is very difficult and time consuming. We have utilized the Nifty assignments concept and applied it locally to an upper division data structures course. Our primary goal is to provide a forum for the sharing of data structure project ideas and materials (as applicable).

Hector Dominguez is the current Open Data Coordinator at the City of Portland, and there are several lessons learned and strategies developed in the several months of work in this position. This zip file contains the sentences mined from public web forums and blogs. Additional details about the dataset:
- The data is split into training, development, and test sets based on the original domain name the text was mined from.
- The sent_*.txt files are tab-delimited and contain one sentence parsed from a particular post. Each line contains the device name, forum software, device form factor (tablet or phone), and device input (touch or touch+key) associated with the post it was obtained from.
- The set's subdirectory contains the groupings used in Section 2.
