Object Oriented Database Management Systems(OOBMS)became popular in the mid-eighties, as a result of the sharply increased popularity of the object oriented programming languages. Many query languages for a number of OODB systems have been proposed, but most of them are similar, in spirit to SQL, which was designed for a relational database model.
