Using Chatgpt To Generate Gendered Language, Shweta Soundararajan, Manuela Nayantara Jeyaraj, Sarah Jane Delany Mar 2024

Using Chatgpt To Generate Gendered Language, Shweta Soundararajan, Manuela Nayantara Jeyaraj, Sarah Jane Delany

Conference papers

Gendered language is the use of words that denote an individual's gender. This can be explicit where the gender is evident in the actual word used, e.g. mother, she, man, but it can also be implicit where social roles or behaviours can signal an individual's gender - for example, expectations that women display communal traits (e.g., affectionate, caring, gentle) and men display agentic traits (e.g., assertive, competitive, decisive). The use of gendered language in NLP systems can perpetuate gender stereotypes and bias. This paper proposes an approach to generating gendered language datasets using ChatGPT which will provide data for data-driven …

Exploiting Bert And Roberta To Improve Performance For Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis, Gagan Reddy Narayanaswamy Jan 2021

Exploiting Bert And Roberta To Improve Performance For Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis, Gagan Reddy Narayanaswamy

Dissertations

Sentiment Analysis also known as opinion mining is a type of text research that analyses people’s opinions expressed in written language. Sentiment analysis brings together various research areas such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), Data Mining, and Text Mining, and is fast becoming of major importance to companies and organizations as it is started to incorporate online commerce data for analysis. Often the data on which sentiment analysis is performed will be reviews. The data can range from reviews of a small product to a big multinational corporation. The goal of performing sentiment analysis is to extract information from those …

Evaluating The Performance Of Transformer Architecture Over Attention Architecture On Image Captioning, Deepti Balasubramaniam Jan 2021

Evaluating The Performance Of Transformer Architecture Over Attention Architecture On Image Captioning, Deepti Balasubramaniam

Dissertations

Over the last few decades computer vision and Natural Language processing has shown tremendous improvement in different tasks such as image captioning, video captioning, machine translation etc using deep learning models. However, there were not much researches related to image captioning based on transformers and how it outperforms other models that were implemented for image captioning. In this study will be designing a simple encoder-decoder model, attention model and transformer model for image captioning using Flickr8K dataset where will be discussing about the hyperparameters of the model, type of pre-trained model used and how long the model has been trained. …

Interactive Learning Approach For Arabic Target-Based Sentiment Analysis, Husamelddin Balla, Marisa Llorens, Sarah Jane Delany Jan 2021

Interactive Learning Approach For Arabic Target-Based Sentiment Analysis, Husamelddin Balla, Marisa Llorens, Sarah Jane Delany

Conference papers

Recently, the majority of sentiment analysis researchers focus on target-based sentiment analysis because it delivers in-depth analysis with more accurate results as compared to traditional sentiment analysis. In this paper, we propose an interactive learning approach to tackle a target-based sentiment analysis task for the Arabic language. The proposed IALSTM model uses an interactive attentionbased mechanism to force the model to focus on different parts (targets) of a sentence. We investigate the ability to use targets, right and left contexts, and model them separately to learn their own representations via interactive modeling. We evaluated our model on two different datasets: …

Comparing Tagging Suggestion Models On Discrete Corpora, Bojan Bozic, Andre Rios, Sarah Jane Delany Jan 2020

Comparing Tagging Suggestion Models On Discrete Corpora, Bojan Bozic, Andre Rios, Sarah Jane Delany

Articles

This paper aims to investigate the methods for the prediction of tags on a textual corpus that describes diverse data sets based on short messages; as an example, the authors demonstrate the usage of methods based on hotel staff inputs in a ticketing system as well as the publicly available StackOverflow corpus. The aim is to improve the tagging process and find the most suitable method for suggesting tags for a new text entry.

Empowering Qualitative Research Methods In Education With Artificial Intelligence, Luca Longo Jan 2020

Empowering Qualitative Research Methods In Education With Artificial Intelligence, Luca Longo

Conference papers

Artificial Intelligence is one of the fastest growing disciplines, disrupting many sectors. Originally mainly for computer scientists and engineers, it has been expanding its horizons and empowering many other disciplines contributing to the development of many novel applications in many sectors. These include medicine and health care, business and finance, psychology and neuroscience, physics and biology to mention a few. However, one of the disciplines in which artificial intelligence has not been fully explored and exploited yet is education. In this discipline, many research methods are employed by scholars, lecturers and practitioners to investigate the impact of different instructional approaches …

Test: A Terminology Extraction System For Technology Related Terms, Murhaf Hossari, Soumyabrata Dev, John Kelleher Jan 2019

Test: A Terminology Extraction System For Technology Related Terms, Murhaf Hossari, Soumyabrata Dev, John Kelleher

Conference papers

Tracking developments in the highly dynamic data-technology landscape are vital to keeping up with novel technologies and tools, in the various areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, It is difficult to keep track of all the relevant technology keywords. In this paper, we propose a novel system that addresses this problem. This tool is used to automatically detect the existence of new technologies and tools in text, and extract terms used to describe these new technologies. The extracted new terms can be logged as new AI technologies as they are found on-the-fly in the web. It can be subsequently classified …

Validation Of Tagging Suggestion Models For A Hotel Ticketing Corpus, Bojan Bozic, Andre Rios, Sarah Jane Delany Jan 2018

Validation Of Tagging Suggestion Models For A Hotel Ticketing Corpus, Bojan Bozic, Andre Rios, Sarah Jane Delany

Conference papers

This paper investigates methods for the prediction of tags on a textual corpus that describes hotel staff inputs in a ticketing system. The aim is to improve the tagging process and find the most suitable method for suggesting tags for a new text entry. The paper consists of two parts: (i) exploration of existing sample data, which includes statistical analysis and visualisation of the data to provide an overview, and (ii) evaluation of tag prediction approaches. We have included different approaches from different research fields in order to cover a broad spectrum of possible solutions. As a result, we have …

Assesing Completeness Of Solvency And Financial Condition Reports Through The Use Of Machine Learning And Text Classification, Ruairí Nugent Jan 2018

Assesing Completeness Of Solvency And Financial Condition Reports Through The Use Of Machine Learning And Text Classification, Ruairí Nugent

Dissertations

Text mining is a method for extracting useful information from unstructured data through the identification and exploration of large amounts of text. It is a valuable support tool for organisations. It enables a greater understanding and identification of relevant business insights from text. Critically it identifies connections between information within texts that would otherwise go unnoticed. Its application is prevalent in areas such as marketing and political science however, until recently it has been largely overlooked within economics. Central banks are beginning to investigate the benefits of machine learning, sentiment analysis and natural language processing in light of the large …

Medical Language Processing For Patient Diagnosis Using Text Classification And Negation Labelling, Brian Mac Namee, John D. Kelleher, Sarah Jane Delany

Conference papers

This paper describes the approach of the DIT AIGroup to the i2b2 Obesity Challenge to build a system to diagnose obesity and related co-morbidities from narrative, unstructured patient records. Based on experimental results a system was developed which used knowledge-light text classification using decision trees, and negation labelling.
