Automatic Generation Of Virtual Work Guide For Complex Procedures: A Case, Shan Liu, Yuzhong Shen Apr 2023

Automatic Generation Of Virtual Work Guide For Complex Procedures: A Case, Shan Liu, Yuzhong Shen

Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Student Capstone Conference

Practical work guides for complex procedures are significant and highly affect the efficiency and accuracy of on-site users. This paper presents a technique to generate virtual work guides automatically for complex procedures. Firstly, the procedure information is extracted from the electronic manual in PDF format. And then, the extracted procedure steps are mapped to the virtual model parts in preparation for animation between adjacent steps. Next, smooth animations of the procedure are generated based on a 3D natural cubic spline curve to improve the spatial ability of the work guide. In addition, each step's annotation is automatically adjusted to improve …

Study Of The Feasibility Of A Virtual Environment For Home User Cybersecurity, Sean Powell Jan 2020

Study Of The Feasibility Of A Virtual Environment For Home User Cybersecurity, Sean Powell

OUR Journal: ODU Undergraduate Research Journal

This research focuses on the average home computer user’s ability to download, install and manage a virtual machine software program. The findings of this research is to be used as a foundation to the possibility of using a virtual machine software program as another form of defense for the home user’s computer. Virtual machines already have various uses, some in the cybersecurity field; this possibility could add another useful application for the software program. This research is conducted by monitoring volunteers’ ability to download, install, set up, and perform basic instructions on the virtual environment. It was from the volunteers’ …

Perceptual Cues And Subjective Organization In A Virtual Information Workspace, Todd M. Eischeid Jan 2001

Perceptual Cues And Subjective Organization In A Virtual Information Workspace, Todd M. Eischeid

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

The key to effectively using the immense body of data on the Internet is an efficient method of organizing relevant information. Researchers and designers are beginning to promote the advantages of three-dimensional (3D) models of information storage and retrieval; however, the potential benefits of perceptual depth cues have not been systematically studied.

The present study used a computer task to examine the effectiveness of three types of virtual desktops. A two-dimensional (2D) virtual desktop display, lacking in the cues that give the illusion of depth, was compared to two different 3D virtual desktops, both of which used perceptual cues to …
