Many applications require to register images within subpixel accuracy like computer vision especially super-resolution (SR) where the estimated subpixel shifts are very crucial in the reconstruction and restoration of SR images. In our work we have an optical sensor that is mounted on an unmanned airborne vehicle (UAV) and captures a set of images that contain sufficient overlapped area required to reconstruct a SR image. An automatic landing site detection algorithm is proposed for aircraft emergency landing. Emergency landing is an unplanned event in response to emergency situations. If, as is unfortunately usually the case, there is no airstrip or airfield that can be reached by the un-powered aircraft, a crash landing or ditching has to be carried out. Identifying a safe landing site is critical to the survival of passengers and crew. Conventionally, the pilot chooses the landing site visually by looking at the terrain through the cockpit. Predicting sonar performance, critical to using any sonar to its maximum effectiveness, is computationally intensive and typically the results are based on data from the past and may not be applicable to the current water conditions. This paper discusses how Beowulf clustering techniques were investigated and applied to achieve real-time sonar performance prediction capabilities based on commercially off the shelf (COTS) hardware and software. Visibility-related problems find applications in seemingly unrelated and diverse fields such as computer graphics, scene analysis, robotics and VLSI design. While there are common threads running through these problems, most existing solutions do not exploit these commonalities. This thesis investigates the subclass of interval graphs known as indifference graphs. New optimal algorithms for recognition, center, diameter, maximum matching, Hamiltonian path and domination in indifference graphs are presented. The recognition algorithm produces a linear order with properties which allow the solution of the other problems in linear time. Algorithm To Architecture Mapping Model (ATAMM) is a new marked graph model from which the rules for data and control flow in a homogeneous, multicomputer, data flow architecture may be defined. This research is concerned with performance modeling and performance enhancement for periodic execution of large-grain, decision-free algorithms in such an ATAMM defined architecture. Performance measures and bounds are established. Algorithm transformation techniques are identified for performance enhancement and reduction of computing element requirements.
