Clayui: A Framework For Delivering Object Properties To Native Mobile Application Components, Andrew Lize Jul 2012

Clayui: A Framework For Delivering Object Properties To Native Mobile Application Components, Andrew Lize

Master's Theses (2009 -)

As technology advances in the field of mobile computing with smartphones and tablet computers becoming less expensive, people are adopting these devices into their daily lives. Due to this adoption, many developers are finding opportunities to develop apps that target this growing form factor. One of the issues that developers come across when developing for these multiple platforms is that there is a need to redesign common elements of their applications for each of their platforms. They are also challenged with the decision of breaking the prescribed design guidelines for each of the platforms they are developing for so that …

A Message-Passing, Thread-Migrating Operating System For A Non-Cache-Coherent Many-Core Architecture, Michael W. Ziwisky Jul 2012

A Message-Passing, Thread-Migrating Operating System For A Non-Cache-Coherent Many-Core Architecture, Michael W. Ziwisky

Master's Theses (2009 -)

The difference between emerging many-core architectures and their multi-core predecessors goes beyond just the number of cores incorporated on a chip. Current technologies for maintaining cache coherency are not scalable beyond a few dozen cores, and a lack of coherency presents a new paradigm for software developers to work with. While shared memory multithreading has been a viable and popular programming technique for multi-cores, the distributed nature of many-cores is more amenable to a model of share-nothing, message-passing threads. This model places different demands on a many-core operating system, and this thesis aims to understand and accommodate those demands. We …

A Smartphone Based Risk Estimation Of Human Activities, Wang Weiqiang Jul 2012

A Smartphone Based Risk Estimation Of Human Activities, Wang Weiqiang

Master's Theses (2009 -)

As handheld devices have been booming up in recent years, the usage of laptops, smartphones, and tablets is increasing exponentially. More important, small handheld devices like smartphones and tablets are becoming more and more popular among people because of their portable and easy-to-use features. They use smartphones and tablets to do business and entertainment which, years ago, could only be accomplished by large personal computers and complicated software programs. Yet, while sensors like the gyroscope, accelerometer, light and magnetic are embedded into smartphones, how to best utilize sensors and improve lives of human beings by those sensors becomes a hot …
