Btsql: Nested Bitemporal Relational Database Query Language, Canan Atay, Abdullah Uz Tansel

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A nested bitemporal relational data model and its query language are implemented. The bitemporal atom (BTA) is the fundamental construct to represent temporal data and it contains 5 components: a value, the lower and upper bounds of valid time, and the lower and upper bounds of the recoding time. We consider 2 types of data structures for storing BTAs: 1) string representation and 2) abstract data-type representation. We also develop a preprocessor for translating a bitemporal structured query language (BtSQL) statement into standard SQL statements. The BtSQL includes the select, insert, delete, and update statements of the SQL, extended for …

M-Fdbscan: A Multicore Density-Based Uncertain Data Clustering Algorithm, Atakan Erdem, Taflan İmre Gündem

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In many data mining applications, we use a clustering algorithm on a large amount of uncertain data. In this paper, we adapt an uncertain data clustering algorithm called fast density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (FDBSCAN) to multicore systems in order to have fast processing. The new algorithm, which we call multicore FDBSCAN (M-FDBSCAN), splits the data domain into c rectangular regions, where c is the number of cores in the system. The FDBSCAN algorithm is then applied to each rectangular region simultaneously. After the clustering operation is completed, semiclusters that occur during splitting are detected and merged to …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The steady-state equivalent circuit parameters of an induction motor can be estimated using the operation characteristics that are provided by manufacturers. The characteristics of the motor used in estimation methods are the starting, maximum, and nominal torque values; the power factor; and efficiency. The operation characteristics of a motor given in data sheets are generally based on design parameters and are not suitable with real values. For this reason, in this paper, the data used in the parameter estimation for induction motors are taken from the literature. Using an optimization method for parameter estimation is useful for comparing the manufacturer …

A New Approach Of Nonblind Watermarking Methods Based On Dwt And Svd Via Lu Decomposition, Onur Jane, Ersi̇n Elbaşi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Multimedia security has been the focal point of considerable research activity in the last decade, mainly because of its wide application area. Watermarking, in particular, is identified as a major technology to achieve copyright protection and multimedia security. Therefore, recent studies in the literature include some evident approaches for embedding data into a multimedia element. Because of its useful frequency component separation, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is commonly used in watermarking schemes. Moreover, singular value decomposition (SVD) and lower-and-upper (LU) decomposition have little effect on the perception of the watermark. Therefore, in this study, a combination of DWT and …

A Penalty Function Method For Designing Efficient Robust Classifiers With Input Space Optimal Separating Surfaces, Ayşegül Uçar, Yakup Demi̇r, Cüneyt Güzeli̇ş

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper considers robust classification as a constrained optimization problem. Where the constraints are nonlinear, inequalities defining separating surfaces, whose half spaces include or exclude the data depending on their classes and the cost, are used for attaining robustness and providing the minimum volume regions specified by the half spaces of the surfaces. The constraints are added to the cost using penalty functions to get an unconstrained problem for which the gradient descent method can be used. The separating surfaces, which are aimed to be found in this way, are optimal in the input data space in contrast to the …
