Structure And Activity Of Metallo-Peptides, Christian C. Tang

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Metal ions are ubiquitously found in all living systems and play vital roles in supporting life forms by performing an array of biological activities. Such biological activities include binding and transforming organic molecules, and also acting as active centers and cofactors for catalysis of various acid-base and redox reactions in biological system. The main focus in bioinorganic chemistry is to elucidate the structural and functional roles of metals in biological systems. Among all transition metal ions, Cu2+ and Fe3+ are especially versatile and important due to their abilities to go through redox efficiently.

Modeling Etr1 With Isolable Coinage Metal Complexes Supported By Partially Fluorinated, And Methylated Scorpionates, Shawn Glen Ridlen May 2017

Modeling Etr1 With Isolable Coinage Metal Complexes Supported By Partially Fluorinated, And Methylated Scorpionates, Shawn Glen Ridlen

Chemistry & Biochemistry Dissertations

Ethylene is a small molecule that functions as a plant hormone that is closely associated with several vital plant functions ranging from germination, shoot and root growth, sex expression, fruit ripening, senescence and abscission. This gaseous hormone is produced by almost every part of the plant, and mediates these processes throughout out the life of the plant. The ethylene response in many plants is initiated by a group of 5 copper based membrane bound receptors, mainly ETR1 (ethylene receptor 1). These receptors are made up of homodimers linked at their N-termini by two disulfide bonds. Each of the monomer units …

Copper Salt-Catalyzed Formation Of A Novel Series Of Triazole-Spirodienone Conjugates With Potent Anticancer Activity., L. Gu, P. Wang, Qiu Zhong, Y. Deng, J. Xie, F. Liu, F. Xiao, Shilong Zheng, Y. Chen, Guangdi Wang, L. He Jan 2017

Copper Salt-Catalyzed Formation Of A Novel Series Of Triazole-Spirodienone Conjugates With Potent Anticancer Activity., L. Gu, P. Wang, Qiu Zhong, Y. Deng, J. Xie, F. Liu, F. Xiao, Shilong Zheng, Y. Chen, Guangdi Wang, L. He

Copper salt-catalyzed oxidative amination resulted in the formation of a novel series of triazole-spirodienone conjugates, 4-triazolyl-1-oxa-4-azaspiro[4,5]deca-6,9-dien-3,8-diones and 4-triazolyl-1-oxa-4-azaspiro[4,5]deca-6,9-dien-8-ones. A single crystal of compound 1p among them was grown and analyzed by X-ray crystallography. These compounds were evaluated for their antiproliferative activities against MDA-MB-231, HeLa, A549 and MCF-7 cell lines. Most of them showed moderate to high anticancer potency in the four cancer cell lines. The discovery of the triazole-spirodienone conjugates as cytotoxic agents against cancer cells may open up a new field in which these novel small molecules could be further explored as promising anticancer agents.

Adsorption Of Cu(Ii) On Three Adsorbents, Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$/Ni/Ni$_{X}$B Nanocomposite, Carob (\Textit{Ceratonia Siliqua}), And Grape Seeds: A Comparative Study, Tüli̇n Deni̇z Çi̇ftçi̇ Jan 2017

Adsorption Of Cu(Ii) On Three Adsorbents, Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$/Ni/Ni$_{X}$B Nanocomposite, Carob (\Textit{Ceratonia Siliqua}), And Grape Seeds: A Comparative Study, Tüli̇n Deni̇z Çi̇ftçi̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A novel adsorbent Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$/Ni/Ni$_{x}$B nanocomposite was synthesized and used for the adsorption of copper. Moreover, natural adsorbents carob and grape seeds were used for this purpose. The surfaces and the elemental compositions of the adsorbents were characterized by SEM-EDX. The zero point charges of pH of Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$/Ni/Ni$_{x}$B nanocomposite, carob, and grape seeds were found as 8.4, 6.0, and 5.6, respectively. The Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin--Radushkevich isotherm models were used for the identification of the mechanism of the adsorption. The adsorptions of Cu(II) on the three adsorbents were well fitted to the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacities obtained from the …

Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is an emerging technique in the field of food analysis which provides various advantages such as minimal sample preparation, chemical free, rapid detection, provision of spatial information and portability. In this study, LIBS was employed for quantitative analysis of copper content in minced beef samples spiked with beef liver over three independent batches. Copper content was determined with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (GFAAS) in order to obtain reference values for modelling. Partial least square regression (PLSR) was performed to build a calibration and validation model. A calibration model with a high Rcv2 of 0.85 …

Homo- And Heterometallic Bis(Pentafluorobenzoyl)Methanide Complexes Of Copper(Ii) And Cobalt(Ii), Janell Crowder Jan 2017

Homo- And Heterometallic Bis(Pentafluorobenzoyl)Methanide Complexes Of Copper(Ii) And Cobalt(Ii), Janell Crowder

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

β-Diketones are well known to form metal complexes with practically every known metal and metalloid. Metal complexes of fluorinated β-diketones generally exhibit increased volatility and thermal stability compared to the non-fluorinated analogues, and thus are used extensively in various chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes for the deposition of metal, simple or mixed metal oxides, and fluorine-doped metal oxide thin films. Furthermore, the electron-withdrawing nature of the fluorinated ligand enhances the Lewis acidity of a coordinatively unsaturated metal center which facilitates additional coordination reactions. The physical and structural properties of fluorinated β-diketonate complexes are discussed in Chapter 1 …

A series of complexes incorporating Zn(II), Cu(II), and Pd(II) ions, and 4-(5-heptyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)benzene-1,3-diol (L1) as model ligand, was synthesized in order to examine the nature of potential interactions between biologically active ligands, 1,3,4-thiadiazoles and metal ions with proven biological relevance. The structures of the compounds isolated were characterized using a number of spectroscopic methods including IR, Uv–vis, AAS, steady state and time-resolved fluorescence (TRF). The results obtained suggest that the L1-Zn(II) and L1-Pd(II) complexes consist of one molecule of L1 and one acetate ion acting as ligands, while the L1-Cu(II) complex adapts a 2:1 (L1: metal) stoichiometry. The coordination of L1 …
