Improving Performance Characteristics Of Hyphenated Preconcentrator Gc Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry: A "Gold Standard" For Sensor Development, Touradj Solouski

University of Maine Office of Research Administration: Grant Reports

Professor Touradj Solouki of the University of Maine at Orono is supported by the Analytical and Surface Chemistry Program to investigate cryofocusing of analytes in an Electrospray Ionization Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance (ESI-FT-ICR) mass spectrometer. To overcome sensitivity problems of FT-ICR, Professor Solouki has added a pre-concentration (PC) gas chromatograph (GC) step to his setup. The goal of this Small Grant for Exploratory Research is to add an additional device: a cryofocuser after the GC. This is predicted to improve the detection limit by two orders of magnitude, and mass resolving power by a factor of 5-10. The PI …

Characterization Of Black Deposit Associated With Rock Paintings In Little Lost River Cave, Idaho Using Pyrolysis Gc, Sarah Therese Fezzey

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

A black, shiny coating overlies rock paintings in Little Lost River Cave no. 1, located in southeastern Idaho. If this coating is the result of human activity within the cave – a condensate from cooking fires, for example – then a radiocarbon date on the coating would provide a minimum age for the underlying paintings. The work reported here was undertaken to test the assumption that the coating has an anthropomorphic origin. Using pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (py-GC-MS) and thermally-assisted hydrolysis/methylation-GC-MS, we have compared samples of the black coating from Idaho to humic acid, a geologic material; an experimental cooking residue; …

Organotin(Iv) Derivatives Of N-Maleoylamino Acids: Their Synthesis And Structural Elucidation, Moazzam H. Bhatti, Saqib Ali, Farhat Huma, Saira Shahzadi Jan 2005

Organotin(Iv) Derivatives Of N-Maleoylamino Acids: Their Synthesis And Structural Elucidation, Moazzam H. Bhatti, Saqib Ali, Farhat Huma, Saira Shahzadi

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Organotin carboxylates of general formula R_3SnL (1), (2), (4) and (6), R_2SnL_2 (5) and {[(R_2SnL)_2O]_2} (3), where L = N-maleoylglycinate, N-maleoyl-\beta-alaninate and N-maleoylmethioninate, were prepared. The synthesis of these compounds was achieved by either reaction of organotin halides, R_3SnCl, with triethylammonium salt of N-maleoylamino acids or/and organotin oxides, (R_3Sn)_2O and R_2SnO, with maleamic acid in the presence of triethyl amine. These compounds were characterized by FT-IR, multinuclear NMR (^1H, ^{13}C and ^{119}Sn), mass and ^{119m}Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy. The geometry around the tin atom is compared both in solution and in solid state. Different literature methods were employed to calculate the …
